Photos and Description of the Baldwin / Walhalla vacation cottage rental
2 cottages. Ea has 2 bdrms , kitchens, & sleeps 6 (12 total)

(special 'early summer' rate of $1150 includes both cottages and two boats for week of June 22-29 is still available!) Looking for a sandy-bottomed lake with virtually no vegetation for great swimming? Where the water is not too cold? Then this is the place. Fishing is relaxing right outside your door, but any fisherman would be thrilled to go fishing in the Pere Marquette that winds throughout the county, easy and free access in a number of place just minutes from the cottages. Back at the cottages there are TWO boats, a pontoon-type paddle boat and aluminum fishing boat that are included with the cottages so no extra cost. And the lake is a private lake so no getting run over and the kids can be on one boat while the fishermen are catching supper. The cottages are updated with fresh bathrooms, pillow-top queen size beds, fully equipped kitchens and washer/dryer on site. Outside you will find large decks on each cottage with plenty of room for sunbathing or dining outside. BBQ grills, and great fire pit add to the outside. AND there is internet access and satellite TV.

Or rent one cottage. Sleeps 6 comfortably. You'll love either of the well-kept, clean and comfortable cottages . Both have brand new bathrooms, very clean.

Enjoy your evenings by building a fire in the fire pit. . Being up north you can see the Milky Way. Take the boat out at night and count the shooting stars. We saw five in one night. Let us know if you counted more!

About Peggy *** I live in Texas but born in Kalamazoo. Payments sent to Texas only

Born in Kalamazoo MI and raised in Texas has made me a traveler. I bought these cottages in hopes of having myself a lake cottage for retirement. And I will one day! So I treat them as if I was going to be there soon and invite my guests to enjoy them until I can get back to Michigan, which I do every chance I get. I also have this great love of remodeling and decorating and so I have many projects for the cottages. We are planning to re-do the living room in the red cottage by tearing out the massive (and leaning) fireplace and open it up with more windows and higher ceilings and a new wood-buring stove. We just finished pouring concrete to connect the buildings (helps keep the cottages clean) and added a new deck on the gray cottage a couple of years ago. One day will re-do the enterior of the gray cottage so it will be open concept. My neighbors on the lake are nice and helpful. I'm not too far away from Baldwin. I enjoy the refreshing lake and the lovely trees and sunsets.

Why Peggy *** I live in Texas but born in Kalamazoo. Payments sent to Texas only chose Baldwin / Walhalla

I had never been to Baldwin before I bought these cottages, but I had heard that the Manistee forest was here and the fishing and hunting were phenominal so one day cruising the internet, I saw this was for sale. I was in Chicago and talked my cousin in Plainwell MI to join me as I went to see the place. Loved it at first sight. I knew that it had what I really wanted in a cozy, comfortable cottage that was not in a too remote place (like wild animal remote) in a national forest.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottages look out on a wonderful lake that if you will just paddle out to the middle of the lake at night and look up at the milky way (yes, it is still there) and then be prepared to count the falling stars (last time it was 5) you will find yourself at peace, enjoying your family and company. Growing up, we always had one special trip to Lake Michigan with a bunch(!) of cousins and friends, and now when I am at the cottages, I feel like I am doing it all over again, just it is now at Whalen Lake, a lot more intimate and a lot more comfortable when we fall asleep!

Owner's Response: We are so happy to have repeat business and also happy to hear from them with such nice comments. Our guest has stayed in the gray cottage and found it comfortable and nicely updated. We also have the red cottage next door to the gray cottage that provides additional room for larger families. We hope Betty and her family will continue to stay at the cottages during the local festival (Blessing of the Bikes) every year. I had the opportunity to actually meet Betty and her family last year and I knew I had a gem of a renter and one I hope to heep seeing in the future. We offer the same rate to our repeat customers just so we can keep them coming back for a great getaway vacation.
