My brother, son, and I took our elderly mother to Creekside Cottage for the Thanksgiving holidays and couldn't have been more pleased. I have spent many getaways in vacation rentals, but must say that this is the best experience I have ever had. The cottage was cozy, warm, and inviting, but by no means small. My mother was able to navigate with her walker without difficulty, and there was even ample room in the side entryway for us to put an extra large dog crate to contain our furry babies while we were out and about. The cottage feels as though it is deep in the mountains, yet it was close enough to Asheville for an easy drive to The Grove Park Inn for us to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner and peruse the exhibits of The National Gingerbread Competition. There are plenty of grocery stores and restaurants convenient to the cottage, but we especially enjoyed a fresh rainbow trout dinner we prepared after a great catch in the property's trout pond. There are lots of activities in the immediate area for those adventurous types, such as hiking and viewing the numerous waterfalls. I personally enjoyed sitting in the cozy reading nook by the fire, with my dog at my feet, reading and gazing for hours out the picture window at the snow covered pasture, watching birds flitting around the dozens of cute bird houses scattered about. The cottage was so comfortable and had every amenity one could wish for, and even many we did not expect. It is vintage, yet in no way run down nor old fashioned. The appliances are top of the line, and the decor is beautifully appointed. The owners, though out of town during our stay, were only a phone call away, beyond accommodating, and had family in the immediate area we could contact had any problems occurred. Our four night, five day stay literally flew by, but we left with our souls refreshed, bodies rejuvenated and relaxed, and yearning for the next opportunity to make a visit there. Though we didn't have children with us, it would be the perfect vacation spot for kids to explore, fish, and play endlessly inside and out. There are swings, fire pits, creeks, fishing ponds...the opportunities for either fun and adventure or pure relaxation are abundant. I can recommend Creekside Cottage without hesitation, and feel blessed to have made such wonderful memories during our stay that will last a lifetime! This rental experience far outweighs the stale feel of a hotel room or generic cabin owned by a management property!
