About Maryann Waterman

My husband and I live in Falmouth Maine. This is 45 minutes away from Harpswell. We have always dreamed of having a cottage on the water. We took the plunge and purchased in beautiful Harpswell 5 yrs ago. We love working on the cottage and making the cottage more charming each year. Renting out the cottage has been an enjoyable experience. We develop a nice relationship with every renter. We love how renters appreciate the cottage and natural beauty of Harpswell

Maryann Waterman purchased this cottage in 2007
Why Maryann Waterman chose Harpswell

We appreciate good value and believe we offer a relaxing, affordable vacation home. As other renters have noticed, we supply all the comforts of home. We clean the cottage ourselves. This keeps the cottage affordable. It also allows us to visit Harpswell on a regular basis.

What makes this cottage unique

Our cottage is just down the street from the Dolphin Marina and Restaurant. The walk there is beautiful. There is a library and a playground with wonderful equipment within walking distance of the cottage. You can kayak from our property in kayaks that we provide.

Perfect!

We just returned from a fantastic week at the cottage and we already want to go back. The cottage is absolutely perfect for week of relaxing and exploring in Maine. The cottage its self is under-rated on the website! It has everything you need to comfortably stay away from home for a week, all that you need to bring is clothes and groceries. Rentals can go either way, so we had a packed car of things we never used- fans, games, cooking supplies, linens, etc., but Maryann has it all! It is a little “off the beaten path”, but that’s what makes it so relaxing, especially the deck with the grill on the cove. But, not to far off the beaten path, never driving more than an hour we went to Sebago lake, a state park, a bird sanctuary, breweries, wineries, Portland, a minor league baseball game and a string quartet recital. Unlike the other reviews, my boyfriend and I are late 20’s/ early 30’s and I think the cottage is suitable for any age couple looking for a mix of relaxation and exploration.

Great Maine Getaway

If you like a quiet, beautiful setting that is a great deal for your money, this will fit your bill. This cozy cottage is located on the waterfront with a good-sized deck in the back overlooking the water, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful view. We stayed here over Columbus Day weekend. We kayaked right from the edge of the property through the coves of lobster boats, enjoying the breathtaking foliage. This is a place that you can enjoy any time of year. The atmosphere of this area is the "old Maine". At the end of this quiet road, you can buy lobsters at a family-owned lobster shack and cook them up when you get home, or have them cooked for you. There is also a great restaurant by the pier that has excellent clam chowder. We walked down to the end of this road and it was a very nice walk, enjoying water views on both sides.

We also played tennis at a local tennis court. Harpswell is a beautiful area of Maine. There are many coves and harbors waiting to be explored, either by car, kayak, or a leisurely walk.

The best part of this cottage is the beautiful view of the water, It is very relaxing and has all of the modern conveniences you need, including a lobster pot. After all, you are in Maine. It is stocked with books to enjoy and games to play.

This is a very good deal for your money. The owners were very easy to work with and were very prompt in their response to our inquiry.

We would definitely go back to this "old Maine" cottage.

We LOVE MAINE from Brunswick EAST

The descriptions of the house and pictures were accurate. The owners were easy to work with & prompt in returning the security deposit. The house is well maintained, nicely decorated and clean with comfortable beds. My husaband and I were there May 4, 5 and 6 and didn't get to use the deck much as it was cooler. The 2 propane heaters warmed the house up great and we felt safe in their use. They were adjustable as to the amount of heat that was needed. It was our first experience with this type of heat. The kitchen has a good variety of dishes, pots and supplies. This is one of about three places we've stayed that has had sufficient space for our tolietries, shampoo, make up, etc. in a large bathroom with two different lights that actually made a difference in seeing to put on make up or shave. I didn't feel like I had to put items back in their bags to keep from knocking them off. Our breakfast view of the water at the dining table was a great way to start the day and end it with a view at supper. When the new landscaping takes off, it will add a lot to the outside of the house. There was an abundance & variety of books and games to play if you needed them.
We could have stayed another day to explore another of the peninsulas (Boothbay Harbor area) or "fingers" as I called them if we hadn't been heading for Acadia Nat'l Park and another area of Maine. In short, the house was a great deal for us. We were relaxed and felt at home. We would come back if we were in the area again. We're from Tennessee.
Go to Bath to see the Maine Maritime Museum & have Maine crabcakes or haddock for lunch at J. R. Maxwell & Co.in Bath & shop at Renys for great bargains. Explore the rest of the "finger" of the Harpswell area. Go the the next finger, Hwy. 24, to Orrs Island; see the Cribstone Bridge from Cooks Lobster House on Bailey Island for a great lunch of a lobster roll and see the Giant Staircase on Bailey Island. At the very end of this finger is the Lands End Gift Shop and a wonderful view. Go to the next finger, Hwy. 209 to see Popham Beach State Park & Ft. Popham. The scenery of all 3 "fingers" is beautiful beyond belief.
Getting food was not a problem as we stopped on the way in, ate lunch out while we were exploring and came across places to get what we needed to make supper if we needed something more. Try Hanaford's potato salad with just a hint of dill.

Sweet Get-A-Way

A wonderful 'change of pace' get-away property with a nice balance of off-season isolation and proximity to the many natural beauties of the Harpswell Neck and adjoining islands. Come prepared though -- since a 'trip to town' is 20+ minutes to Brunswick or 35 minutes to Freeport. Nonetheless, this is a wonderful spot from which to explore the southern Mid-Coast of Maine. Nice bird-watching in the tidal basin!

Owner's Response: We appreciate the positive comments. We just want to add that "The Vegetable Corner" is our favorite place to stop, just 10 minutes away from the cottage. Besides fresh vegetables, they sell excellent bakery goods. This family run store also has a butcher shop and sells fresh seafood. There are soup and sandwich offerings daily ie on Fridays fish chowder is available. Everyone at the store is friendly and welcoming. The ShipnShore convenience store is 5 minutes away from our cottage. Beer and wine are sold.
