True Paradise in Costa Rica

Peter & Louise Westport, WA
Review Submitted: April 14, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We stayed at the Discovery House in October 2006 and again in July 2008. We have another trip planned for November of this year. Sometimes properties look better online than in reality. This is NOT one of those. If anything, it is better and more comfortable than the photos portray. The house is unique, roomy and welcoming. The beds and linens are scrumptious. The property is well maintained.

The location is prime, right on the beach and with a large lap pool and oversized hot tub. It's an excellent beach for swimming and strolling. There are great restaurants within a short drive and good local eating spots and shopping within easy walking distance. We like to stroll down to The Marlin for breakfast in the morning. Flip-flops are pretty much all you'll need for the most part, but bring decent walking shoes if you want to do some exploring. Don't expect to walk to the grocery store since supplies like food and liquor are a steep uphill climb.

More evenings than not the monkeys came through right around cocktail time - catch a great view from the upstairs balcony. Be sure to arrange for a canopy safari tour while you are in there. Flying through the jungle at treetop level is like nothing I've experienced before.

Love this place!!
Owner's Response: Louise's party combined the perfect mix of relaxation, activity and night life. We enjoyed our evening out with them to listen to soul/R&B/jazz singer Kezirah at a local restaurant. Louise will be happy to hear that the clever people at Super Joseth just opened up a grocery store on the beach with plenty of yummies and refreshments only a 5 minute walk away. We love our repeat guests.

We Love, Love, Love this Place!

Can't tell you enough how much we love, love, love this place! It was such a perfect location for my husband's 70th birthday celebration with all our friends - couldn't have been more perfect. From the moment we arrived the date and time ceased to matter. We just let ourselves be swept away by the beautiful surroundings. The pool and hot tub are unbelievably close and we used them daily (many times). Such a great spot to view the monkeys performing for us in the trees.

Thank you so much for creating this gorgeous home and sharing it with us. We'll definitely be back again soon.

A Perfect Vacation

The Governor Hermosa Beach, CA
Review Submitted: September 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Wow! Well, I first have to start off by saying that this was a real vacation, not that I haven't been to tropical destinations before with great accommodations, but this was the real deal. This place really was right on the beach, all I had to do to go in the ocean was walk out the little gate by the pool and the ocean was right there in front of me! I didn't spend any time getting around like you would have to at a resort or hotel, from room to pool to ocean, because everything was right there within 50 feet! I tend to work a lot so I don't like to spend my vacation time commuting or in a car.....in fact, the only time we got in a car was to go out to dinner, which made it a perfect vacation for me.

The pool is incredible and the monkeys came almost every night to nest in the palm tree over the Jacuzzi. It was a little humid but the air conditioners in the house kept things cool. This was an absolute top-notch place to stay in which I will revisit again and again!

Owner's Response: When we first saw this property 8 years ago we saw beyond the swamp and underbrush. We envisioned building our dream home and creating a private nature reserve where our guests could conveniently walk onto the beach, to Manuel Antonio National Park, to restaurants, and to buy groceries nearby without having to get in their car.

The underbrush was cut away and the swamp was displaced by fruit trees, tropical gardens, paths, our home and the swimming pool. The monkeys and other wildlife hung in there with us throughout the process. It's very gratifying to see our guests not only enjoy but enthusiastically appreciate what the Discovery Beach House has become.

Discovery Beach House Ranks at the Top

Review Submitted: July 13, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
I never cease to be amazed at the beauty and wonder of God’s creation. Costa Rica and the Discovery Beach House rank at the top of my list. The house, swimming pool, beach and all the fun activities have been perfect for our family. It has truly been a blessing to spend the week here with my family and we can’t forget the monkeys! We enjoyed meeting you at La Hacienda restaurant. All of your workers have been very gracious and helpful. Thanks for making this experience possible. Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice!!

Truely Paradise

Cowboysred Phoenix, Arizona, USA
Review Submitted: May 27, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
This was our second time vacationing at the Discovery Beach House and we really love this place! Everything is clean and well taken care of and all the staff made us feel special and did whatever was needed to make us comfortable. To us there isn't a more beautiful place to spend a vacation. Where else can one see wild monkeys play in the trees every afternoon and even see a sloth in the tree above our bedroom. We enjoy the privacy of the crystal clean pool and jacuzzi and the feeling that time doesn't matter. We enjoy being able to walk across the way at the beach to have a Michilada and Heart of Palm Salad at the Karahe Hotel & Restaurant, or a Sunset dinner at Aqua Azur (don't miss their Tuna Margarita Appetizer). The owner organized a Horseback riding tour for us as well as the Canopy Safary Zipline tour which we think is one of the best !!! The sound of the Ocean and the Rain forest is so relaxing and it was hart to leave. We will be back for sure !
Thank you ! KK & Peter

Amazing is an understatement

Amazing is an understatement…. We stayed at the Discovery Beach House this last March 2009. We had such a wonderful time and fell in love with the warmth and coziness that the Discovery Beach House offers. It has everything you need and More!!! First of all it’s located just steps from the beach. You can hear the waves crashing while sipping your morning cup of coffee. But yet you are surrounded by lush vegetation and the occasional monkey or sloth. It’s Truly Paradise… The Pool and Jacuzzi are a lot larger than I imagined and the beds and linens are so comfy I didn’t want to get out of bed. The kitchen is supplied with everything you need to cook a meal at home and the local grocery store is just a short taxi drive up the road. For fun we also took advantage of hiring the house chef to prepare a couple of meals for us. The Discovery Beach House also comes with a concierge so you don’t feel like you’ve been left alone in a foreign Country. She is a phone call away and is there to greet you upon your arrival. The house is filled with amazing artifacts from around the world. The living room has a cozy African theme while the kitchen honors the famous Artists Frida and Diego. Simply amazing…. I can’t wait to go back!!!
Owner's Response: This group appreciated our home, pool and gardens so much they hardly left the property. What a compliment. They also came during monkey mating season, so I guess even monkeys like a little privacy!

The ABSOLUTE BEST of COSTA RICA

JohnMc. JohnMc.
Review Submitted: April 21, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
The Discovery Beach House on Manuel Antonio Beach is the only place to stay while vacationing in Costa Rica. This house has everything. From an amazing sparkling infinity pool that seems to disappear into the ocean, to the oversized hot-tub, and the immediate beach access, you'll never stay anywhere else. I have stayed three times in the last 2 years and have another trip planned for the end of this year. This property is safe and secure, with an incredibly friendly and helpful staff. It is centrally located close to Manuel Antonio's finest restaurants and night clubs, as well as all the fantastic local attractions. Not to mention, monkeys, sloths, and all kinds of amazing natural wildlife surround you everywhere. Take the time to go on a nearby canopy safari through the Costa Rican Rain Forest and make sure to take long walks on the most beautiful beaches in the world - right outside your door! There is also plenty of great shopping very close by. Everything that was promised in the brochure was delivered and then some. The owners of the property were incredibly helpful and made sure we felt very welcomed and we did not want for a single thing our entire time there. There were 4 of us and we had plenty of room to spare. This place is big! The Discovery Beach House is a must while traveling to Costa Rica.
Owner's Response: These guests are a vacation home owner's dream. They were so appreciative of every detail we poured into decorating our home and they made the most of the best Manuel Antonio has to offer. We look forward to hosting them again and again!

Incredibly Fun Location

JudyC Calgary, Alberta
Review Submitted: April 20, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
The Discovery Beach House was like having our own private sanctuary - reading by the pool surrounded by beautiful gardens and entertained by abundant wildlife, birds, iguanas of all shapes and sizes and daily visits by Titi and Capuchin monkey troops. It was an incredibly fun location.

The beach was gorgeous sand and fun waves for surfing, boogie boarding or just swimming. If it were up to me, I would never leave! the people here are so friendly and love to talk with you! It was the perfect base for our family vacation. Sadly, we have to leave this place. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience and stay!!!

Owner's Response: We're happy this family had a wonderful time and saw an abundance of wildlife on our property. Our staff enjoyed teaching them a little Spanish while in return receiving English lessons. Win-win for all.

Canadians have a particular affinity for our location, especially during their winter months back home. Perhaps they imagine everyone freezing while they're sunning themselves by our pool or dipping into our warm ocean waves. We're pleased to provide them with such a welcomed contrast. We hope they return soon.

An Unbelievable Experience

FelipeC West Hollywood California USA
Review Submitted: April 18, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2008
I have stayed in many places in Costa Rica, and
Discovery House in Manuel Antonio is by far the best. This is where the jungle meets the beach, in style.

The property is beautifully landscaped and maintained by a friendly staff. The many fruit trees attract the monkeys. Don't feed the monkeys, they have plenty of food in the trees.

If you're into exercise, you can swim laps in the pool, jog on the beach (it's just beyond the pool), or if you're adventerous, hike up the hill -- it's a challenge. But you can reward yourself with an iced coffee at the top of the hill.

Speaking of food, the beach is spotted with little hotels and restaurants. They're hidden behind all the trees. The seafood is excellent. Try a Michilada with salt and lime - very refreshing

When we visited, we went river rafting, we went on a
canopy safari, and we went sunset sailing. But my favorite
excursion was happy hour in the jacuzzi.

I had so much fun. I can't wait to go back. Next time I'll stay longer. It went by way too fast.

Have a great trip
Owner's Response: Felipe made the best of both worlds by combining the top tours available in Manuel Antonio with exercise and healthy cuisine. He proudly infomed us he lost 10 pounds.
He's already booked his next reservation. We look forward to seeing his group again in November.
