We stayed December 27-Jan 2. When we arrived it was quite dusty and somewhat dirty, however there were cleaning supplies so we used what was provided, washed the linens, and it was fine after that. The parking is a little tricky, it is not a public road, but the cabin itself is situated directly on the road that travels through the neighborhood of cabins, and the parking spot is extremely close to that road. There was a significant amount of snow on the ground when we arrived, so I am sure that it was further constricted due to that. We had a small problem with the gas fireplace, but we called the owner and he sent out a propane company immediately (literally, within 10mins of the phone call!). The issue was easily resolved. We cooked in the kitchen almost every night, and it never felt too small or cramped..which was really nice. The flatscreen was a nice bonus, my husband was able to watch ESPN. We brought our laptop and watched several movies on it via Netflix, and never had any problems with connectivity. One small complaint is the fact that the bathroom does not have any shades on the windows. There are neighbors around and since we were there over a holiday, most of the homes were occupied. it was a little awkward worrying about them seeing us at night. The area is beautiful of course. We hiked Bashbish Falls, Monument Mountain and Ice Glen. We shopped in Great Barrington and ate at The Aegean (WONDERFUL), Xicoh Mexican (OUTSTANDING!), Barrington Brewery (Pale Ale was to die for!), got wine and cheese at The Gourmet Grocer, and all of our staples at Price Chopper. Robin's chocolate in Great Barrington has outstanding salted chocolates that everyone MUST try. All in all, it was a cute cottage, great location, and a beautiful area!
Owner's Response: As owner of the property I found it necessary to respond to this review titled "Winter Stay" by Katie. I was very dismayed when I saw this review for the first time since I had been to the cottage the week before Katie stayed there. I had gone to check that the heater under the house that keeps the pipes from freezing was working. While at the house, I personally saw that the house was clean and all the towels and linens had been washed, folded and put away by the maid that has been cleaning our house for the past few years after every occupancy. I had spoken to Katie twice while she was at the house, first to make sure that the man that does the winter plowing for us had cleaned around the house including the driveway, deck and front stairs. She reported that he was just leaving when she arrived and was very appreciative since there had just been 12-18 inches of new snow. The second time I spoke to her was a few days later when she called me about the pilot light in the gas fireplace. I called the propane company and had a serviceman sent right out to help her. During both these conversations with Katie she never told me that the house was "dusty or dirty". Cleanliness is a relative thing and different for different people. As you can see from the other posted reviews people say that they find the house clean and even "immaculate". If Katie decided she wanted to clean the house further it is her perogative and the reason why we keep cleaning supplies available.
Katie also talks about the parking in front of the house being tricky and constricted by the snow. Why didn't she put her car or truck in the driveway that was plowed?(See picture of house above with car shown in driveway)
There is also a complaint of neighbors being able to see in through the bathroom windows. The bathroom windows are the 2 high windows on the side of the house by the deck.(see photo of house) These windows are at least 10 feet off the ground and when looking at them from outside the house all you are able to see is the bathroom ceiling. I do however understand her concern not realizing this fact and have instructed my handyman to put shades on the 2 bathroom windows. All in all, I guess things were not too bad since Katie gave her stay 4 out of 5 stars. Barbara
