Spring Break Getaway, 03/08

"We made our first visit to Puerto Rico, my wife and I landed in San Juan late
on Wed eve, spent a half day in San Juan exploring old town and then drove to
the laid back town of Rincon on the west coast side of the Island. If you like
lots of traffic, crowds and touristy things, stay in San Juan. If you wish to
rent a beautiful home with a pool, near beaches, coffee shops and nice
restaurants, then this would be a great place for your vacation. The owner was wonderful to deal with and the
folks he has caring for his place are 1st class. While we were there we
experienced wonderful snorkeling as the sea was as calm as glass, to a major
wave condition where the best surfers in the world flew into the island to take advantage of
30 foot swells. Only one of our four kids was able to join us later in the
week and it was very convenient to pick him up at the Aguadilla Airport. There is
a folksy local map of Rincon that can be ordered online and we found it was very
helpful to get your bearings. Very easy to get around once you get the lay of
the land, but dark twisty roads if you are new the the area. GPS was
useless as roads were so twisting, the little voice was constantly stating she
was trying to recalculate our position. The house was extremely comfortable,
very safe, no bugs during our stay. There were some barking dogs from a
neighbors house but not enough that I would not hesitate to return. Next time,
less San Juan and more Rincon. We could not have had a better first vacation to
Puerto Rico and I thanked the owner for allowing us to stay at his home. I told him I would be happy to be a referral and I am sure he would provide my e mail
address or phone number.
