Location: The property is located within the Town of Bar Harbor, on Lookout Point Road above Hulls Cove. Lookout Point Road is an historic and elegant neighborhood of perhaps a dozen homes. Lookout Point Road overlooks Frenchmans Bay and the North Atlantiic. The subject property begins at a pink-granite walled entrance on that road, and then slopes down, for perhaps 1,000' under white pines past a pond to the house itself. The house fronts on the ocean. The home faces directly south toward: the oncoming sea breezes, the Town harbor and its boat basin, and the cruise-line ship traffic which moors in full view. Views from the house also include: the Cadillac Mountain range, the Porcupine Islands, Egg Rock lighthouse in the distance, and the North Atlantic beyond. Lookout Point Road joins Route 3, the main highway connecting the mainland with Mount Desert Island. MDI includes Bar Harbor, 3 other towns, and the predominant Acadia National Park.

Surrounding properties: Acadia National Park comprises tens of thousands of acres of walking trails, lakes, ponds, and both salt water and fresh water beaches for swimming and fishing. The gateway to the Park is just one mile from our property. Acadia is the 2nd most-visited on the National Parks because Bar Harbor and the Island are considered among the most beautiful places in North America. The Park was encouraged by Teddy Roosevelt, organized by Harvard visionaries, and largely capitalized by the Rockefellers. Beyond the gateway to the Park, and still traveling south on Route 3 from the subject property, along the cliffs above the ocean, one encounters the Bar Harbor Yacht Club (visible from our property across Hulls Cove), then a collection of hotels and resorts that include the Town's best restaurants and bars and athletic facilities (e.g., the Regency where President Obama stayed in 2010), and then the 125-year old mansions on West Street andMain Street's commercial areas.
Past and Present, and 2012: A NYC socialite iniitially constructed the house, with formal entertaining in mind. She occupied the property briefly, along with a staff that would now be an anachronism. The present owners have owned the property for 35 years, leasing it for 15 years. It is one of the best rental properties of its kind on the Maine Coast. Main features include immediate frontage on the ocean, views of sunrises and moonrises over the ocean, and what Frank Sinatra would call a 'summer wind'. This is a luxury-home, turnkey arrangement. A housekeeper fully prepares the house and offers to greet guests at the door when they arrive. Although we do not usually involve brokers and do not advertise extensively, we are routinely fully booked for each season, with some prime weeks booked a year in advance.
The subject property has been family-owned for three generations and 35 years. The vacation rental business has been in operation for 18 years.
