We stayed four nights at this house. It was comfortable and clean enough. Great shower in the bathroom, though everything is pretty dated. We don't mind decor aging as long as it is clean. For the price we did expect the listed amenities to be included and serviceable. The snorkeling equipment was broken and/or missing and we had depended on that since we only brought some of our things. It's a long way to get equipment when we discovered the condition and lack of gear at the house.
The gate was broken while we were there and we had to climb the stone wall to get out to go for walks in the morning. There is no apparent way of getting out of the yard (they did not provide a clicker) once you are in.
This is not meant to deter people. It was a great location and very quiet and lovely. We enjoyed staying here though we were disappointed at the condition of some of the home's amenities.
By the way... We snorkeled/kayaked the cove each day and some of the neighbors were rude in our approaching anywhere near "their" lagoons. No one can own the waterfront in Hawaii and it is untrue that you cannot swim anywhere in the water you want. We asked the police and local authorities. We didn't want a confrontation so we just kept swimming but it was annoying that people were so possessive of the ocean and the fish that come and go for all to enjoy.
There were minimal condiments and lots of ants so bring your spices, even salt and pepper, and keep everything in the fridge.
Great place for kids with lots of space to run around and not much for them to damage. Water is very open so keep a close eye on little ones. Our 8 year old swam with turtles each day and enjoyed the kayak he could take to the champagne pools with dad all by himself. Lovely.
It's a beautiful setting and we were lucky with mostly sunny weather. Do explore the island and take the side detours to scenic areas. Well worth the diversion! The lava trees walk was really interesting and easy.

We loved our stay,it has everything we could need and left with our batteries re-charged. We were island residents for 18 years before we left for the mainland and have only been gone for 2 years, so for us the bungalow was an ideal place to stay. We have recomended it to everyone, even our local ohana loved it when they came to visit us. Mahalo and we will be back next year.

Terrific lot with unbeatable water access and privacy. The cottage has good bones but is probably due for a cosmetic upgrade soon. Kitchen is large and well-equipped. Both front and back yards are gorgeous. Don't worry about the lack of A/C. There are lovely, cool trade winds all day every day that blow right through the house. Kayaks and other water "toys" were fun - in fact, we often didn't want to leave the cottage and our own "private pool." There is some construction next door but it was sporadic and not too bothersome. You are a minimum 8 mile drive from the nearest market or gas but this means you see thousands of stars every night and can really enjoy the fresh air and lack of people/traffic. Overall a terrific experience. We miss it already and want to go back!

We were all set to go fishing and exploring but once we sat down on the comfy lanai chairs and gazed at the serene Buddha statue, all thoughts of frantic acitivity melted away. The property description is accurate: a beautiful setting, turquoise waters, cool breezes and blue skies. What more could we ask for? The bungalow had all the little necessities for the kitchen and bathroom. All we needed were groceries from local farmers' markets and Malama. We also appreciated all the outdoor equipment, the kayaks, life vests, swim shoes, etc. The neighbors are friendly and there is even a resident artist! We had a nice visit at his studio. We would definitely recommend this property to family and friends and plan to come back again.

My wife and I had a great time at the bungalow. The view was even nicer than we expected. We wish we spent more time at the house but there was so much to do in the area we were gone a lot of the time. It was nice to know we would be comming back to the bungalow at the end of the day exploring. We split our time on both sides of the island and we enjoied the east side the most. Iwould recommend this house, area and VRBO to everyone.

Very comfortable bed! Bungalow is well stocked (there are at least a dozen wine glasses, and we had no issues with neighbors or their dog(s). The cove is alive with fish and honu (turtles) we saw them in the cove everyday! Wish we had more than 4 days here. As this is a tropical area, the salt water and weather take their toll, but the Bungalow is very clean and the grounds well maintained. Happy, Happy, Happy Stay at the Bay.

We had a fabulous stay at this wonderful bungalow, so much so that we are seriously going to return. It was perfect for our children who are 5 and 3 even though the water was right there. They had space to run around and explore and had a calm and exciting area to swim in. It was quiet and sunny and just fabulous. So much to see and do on this side of the island and so relaxing.

This place was so much more than I expected. A small and comfortable house on a large lot and you walk into your own tide pool to snorkel. Plenty of lounging space on the lanai and around the property. Sitting in the evening on the lawn down by the water was wonderful. Quiet, no traffic, no hustle or bustle, the real Hawaii experience you may be looking for. We were confirmed Kona visitors, but the Puna District has captured our hearts. It would have been nice if kayaks were available at the property. I would have given the place a five star rating but it needs a good cleaning. If you want to get away from it all at a great price this is the place. We can't wait to return to this charming bungalow.
