Photos and Description of the Weeki Wachee vacation house rental
House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Two bedroom, two bath home directly on the crystal clear, spring fed Weeki Wachee River. Watch boats, kayaks, canoes, manatees and fish cruise by just feet from the house. Nature is at your doorstep, literally.

Catch a crab dinner from the dock. (traps provided). Weeki Wachee is famous for calm relaxing canoe and kayak trips down the current of the river to the Gulf of Mexico. Motor boats are allowed only at slow speed on the entire river, so no boats screaming by. You can swim or float just off the steps in 72 degree water all winter long.

Across from a state wildlife sanctuary, no neighbors across the river, except Otters, Herons, Ibis, Ducks, and other critters.

Rental includes use of 16 foot pontoon boat with quiet Honda 4-cycle motor. If you prefer to bring your own boat, you can use the dock to keep it in the water. We have one kayak for use in the river.

Pets are welcome, front and side yards all fenced for dogs. Dogs love boats. There are sandy beaches along the river to stop and let your dogs swim.

Screened porch for relaxing, as well as covered outdoor kitchen area right at the water’s edge. Single car attached garage. Completely remodeled in 2007, all new kitchen, appliances, and furniture. Wood and tile floors throughout. Exceptionally clean and easy to keep clean. Completely furnished with linens, towels, kitchen utensils, a real cook’s kitchen or you can eat out at one of many nearby restaurants. Just bring your suitcase.

Don’t come here for the technology -- but we have LCD digital cable TV, high-speed wireless internet, and digital nationwide phone service.

There are endless places to go on day trips, less than an hour from Tampa and an hour and a half to Orlando attractions. Locally there is golf, fishing, birding trails, nature walks, diving, and the one-of-a-kind award winning Homosassa Springs State Park-not to be missed. It is the only educational State Wildlife Park in Florida, with a 'Fishbowl' you can watch the fish and manatees in the springs of the Homosassa River head waters from under the water, and not get wet.

We would love to share this special place with you. Please contact us for additional photos. Owners live 25 miles north of Weeki Wachee and know the area well. If we can answer any questions you may have, please let us know.

Snow birds from the Frozen Tunda (Green Bay, Wi) want to visit again!

This is a beautiful, natural area of west/central Florida and we would recommend this safe & comfy home for anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. It is close to excellent restaurants, shopping and within a short drive to the quaint communities of Duneden,Tarpon Springs and Clearwater. The home is really a gem! It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy peace and quiet. Our friendly owner/host (Terri) was helpful in getting us settled in and oriented to the area.

Every morning we would watch George (our dog) run around the fenced-in lawn and peer at the fish along the sea wall. We typically enjoyed our coffee in the screened in porch in the morning and would look for the manatees swimming by. We had occassional visits from white egrets, buzzards and pelicans. We could also view dolphins, sea otters and other critters over at the Bayport pier/park area.

We like to fish and were able to purchase live bait at a nearby shop and fish from the Bayport pier, Pine Island,Rogers Park, Jenkins pier or in the Weeki Watchee river. We caught and released many fish (gray mangrow snappers, lady fish, sea bass, sea trout, reds, and sometimes mullets with bread for bait).
We did catch blue sea crabs which we kept and then "googled" information on how to cook and prepare them.....the crab turns from blue to orange in the boiling water and while there's not much "meat" in a crab...it's delicious. You should catch at least a dozen to make a full meal.....all the stuff you need to prepare them is right there in the kitchen which is thankfully fully stocked with pots/pans and utensils. You may wish to pick up a bottle of wine to go with the crabs.Learning how to cook crabs was alot of fun and a new experience for us.

The home is charming with cable ready TV's in three rooms, a newly remodeled bathroom with a handicapped accessable shower, a fully equiped kitchen and dining room/living room....did I mention there's a patio out back with a portable grill, kayak and a pontoon boat too. If you happen to see people with spears on boats with lights at night going up and down the river.....it's called "jigging". They sometimes go up the river spearing fish at night.....which is also "neat" to watch.
We had a great vacation and would like to return again in the future. All in all this is a great place to stay.

We had a most enjoyable two week stay a Catahoula Camp. The location is great right on the beauful crystal clear Weeki Wachee River. Watch the manatees swim by. Terri and Andy have a very well equipped home. Having a Pontoon Boat included wih the home added to the enjoyment of exploring the river. Nice side trips to Tarpon Springs and particularly Homassa Springs State Park is really worth while. Grocery shopping is nearby, but good restaurants are few but there a couple of good ones.
We would definitely go back to Catahoula Camp!

Unique place to enjoy Florida

Wow is all I can say about our two weeks at Catahoula Camp. We really enjoyed the attention to detail that owners Terri and Andy provide. We didn't find anything lacking.

If you want to know what the best things are I will have to tell you it all depends on which one of us you ask:
Our 110lb. Golden Retriever Clifford loved diving off the seawall into the water and chasing the squirls in the fenced yard. And swimming with te Manatees was cool.too.
My wife loved the quiet park like surrondings, the sun and Florida room,
I loved the things I was able to do without any car travel. That included Kayaking, Pontoon boat trips to the Gilf, grilling my favorite steak, and watching the wildlife.

We would definitely do this again especially if Catahoula Camp is available!

Owner's Response: Luckily, we have been able to rent great places to stay from VRBO. Those places have helped us become better hosts by learning what we would like to have, and also "stealing" ideas from other owners. We always welcome suggestions to improve our property, and we never forget our guests are on vacation.

Terri & Andy,
We had a wonderful stay at your lovely place, Camp Catahoula. The house is so very comfortable and you provided everything we needed. The weather could not have been better; we really enjoyed sitting in the screen room and watching the manatees swim by on the river. We used the pontoon boat frequently to further explore the river. We enjoyed the beach at Pine Island and saw beautiful sunsets at Bayport. We also had a great time taking side trips to the Wildlife Park in Homosassa Springs and to Tarpon Springs. We went to the swamp fest and had a great time.

Our pugs enjoyed the fenced-in yard and had a great time checking out the neighborhood dogs.

Terri and Andy, you are guys are great hosts, and enjoyed visiting you and meeting your "babies." (The Catahoulas)

Looking forward to next year. Take Care,

Terri & Andy,
We so enjoyed our time here at your loveley home on the river. The setting is so peaceful, and we enjoyed seeing all the wildlife, and humans kayaking. The river is quite a busy place. We enjoyed the many boat rides. The pups (Buddy and Molly) enjoyed Pierre (neighbor's dog) kayakers, and sneaking under the fence next door. The fenced yards were so very nice to have. We enjoyed seeing all the manatees, and then coming home to relax by the firepit outside or on the screened porch. We enjoyed exploring the area and going to Sam's Beach Bar on Hernando Beach, and Rusty Bellies in Tarpon Springs. Trapon Springs is about 28 miles and is worth the drive! They have told us it was called "Little Greece of Florida."

We look forward to returning to your little home on the river.
Thanks so much!

In the Area for AKC Dog Show

Terri & Andy,
Your home is lovely - everthing we expected and much, much more. We appreciate all of the thoughtful things you did to make us feel more like friends than renters. Marna especially wanted me to thank you for coming to the dog show to cheer her on for her 5 point major reserve. Sadly, she didn't get any points, but she had a wonderful time. Zarco loved to dive into the water to retreive his stick, and they both loved their trips on the boat. We saw lots of manatees, river otters, crabs, turtles, and of course lots of birds. If we come to the Florida circuit again, we will definately stay here again.

Thank you again for your kindness,

The Perfect Vacation Spot!

Catahoula Camp was the perfect vacation spot. The wildlife was incredible--daily manatee sightings, river otters and lots of bird life. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped and the owners are very hospitable--they make you feel more like friends than tenants. The weather was a little chilly when we were there, but we did make use of the pontoon boat and the kayak. Our dogs had a great time, too! They loved the crates and dog beds that were provided. I'd love to visit again when the weather was a little warmer and we could make more use of the porch and the back yard area.

Added by homeowner, comment sent via email.Note by homeowner, we do now have a kayak for use on the river..

Dad asked me if I would give you our feedback on our stay

We thought the place was great and greatly appreciated all the amenities that you supplied. You all thought of everything and it was a pleasant surprise.

Things we didn't think of, you did. It felt like we were being taken care of, like we were part of a family.

I have to say it made our stay that much more great!

We loved the fact that the place was right on the river. Being able to see the manatees and all the wildlife right from in front of the house was so cool

My daughter and I loved the kayak trip we took from the Springs, it was one of the highlights of our stay. The river is gorgeous

If there was anything lacking at all, I would have to say use of a private kayak - we would have been on it everyday - it was that cool. The pontoon boat was great, but it being run by an engine and being a little bulky, for the inexperienced it was a little daunting. Give me a paddle any day. Dad did just fine with it, but I was a little scared of taking it out by myself.

All in all, I would have to say that your place totally outshone any other place I had ever been to. It was a home away from home - on a river, in a wonderful environment, with every amenity you could think of (and some you can't)and we would return in a heartbeat

Thanks so much for all the care you took in making our stay so pleasant!!!

Diane

We stayed in December 2008 over the holidays for
2 weeks. It was incredible. The manatees that swam
with us, even let us pet them. The otters, fish,
dolphins and even the raccoons were a delight.
(lock those garbage cans up at
night)...haha....Anyhow, the house was so clean and
had everything you could think of. Terri and Andy
are the perfect hosts and are extremely personable
and accommodating. The pontoon boat was
awesome!! The fishing was also incredible right off
the backyard. I have nothing but great things to say
about this place. We will definitely be going
back...sooner rather than later...If anyone would
like to call us and ask any questions or a referral I
would be happy to talk with you.
