This is a great house to spend some unwind time in. We had 5 adults and one 8 year old, and we were all very well satisfied. We are already thinking about when we can come back to stay again. And yes, the driveway is a trip in itself. It was a lot of fun!

We are proud to be the first repeat vistors to Brookside - with such a wonderful location, cabin, and natural habitat, we have been itching to get back ever since our first visit! Brookside was perfect for a quiet long weekend getaway - an easy drive to Asheville for dinner and drinks, great location for bringing our roadbikes and exploring the many (and hilly!) country roads, and hiking trails right out the front door to enjoy with our Labrador Retriever. We look forward to spending even more weekends at this wonderful retreat!

My family and I plan a trip to the mountains several times per year. I always look for home that is in a private setting and plenty of room for 5 adults and 5 kids. This was the perfect place. We planned our trip for the weekend of January 16th never realizing it would be some of the coldest days we have experienced in some time. When we arrived, there was a fire already burning in the fireplace and the home was very warm and inviting. There was plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The kids loved the wrap around deck, walking in the woods, and breaking ice from rocks at the mountain stream. The boys loved hiking around the area and looking for “bear tracks.” At night, we played a lot of games and watched movies. My favorite part was the quietness (with the exception of kids) of the outside. I couldn’t hear any traffic sounds. I was much more aware of the sounds of nature and the nearby stream gurgling as it moved. The home is in a perfect location.

I had read about the driveway from previous comments. I did not have any problem accessing the drive. It started the trip with a lot of excitement. We hope to plan a spring/summer trip and will definitely check the availability of this home.

We stayed at the house for 5 days this past Thanksgiving with friends and had a terrific time. The house is supper clean and really well set up with a beautiful loft, a quiet basement, and a wonderful common area. There is plenty of space for children to play both inside and out. The kitchen is great for those who like to cook, and the location is perfect for anyone who wants to get away into nature. We had no problems at all with the off-the-grid experience. All in all a terrific place to stay in the Asheville area.

What a perfect place. We've been renting a house
near Asheville for the week before Thanksgiving for
seven years now, and this is the best place we've
ever rented by a very long shot. I was worried about
the off-the-grid stuff: would it be cold? would we
run out of water? No, and no. We were careful with
power and water but not obsessed, and that was all
that was needed. The setting is gorgeous, remote
but yet a easy drive to groceries, Asheville, etc. If
we could afford it, we would buy it.

Our family enjoyed communing with nature in a beautiful location. Once survival of the driveway was mastered, the retreat was a quiet haven from the world. The house was very family friendly and great for the inquisitive mind on being "green".

Chuck and Jean,

What a delightful place. We were their for a week in August 3-10th. We enjoyed your home so much. We had a family reunion with my husband's family.Plenty of room. My husband and I enjoyed the hike up the mountain. Look for the red ribbons someone hung on the trees as a marker. The brooke is beautiful, we enjoyed drinking water right from the brooke. So refreshing. The deck is a wonderful place for the family to enjoy the many meals we prepared. And the nature around the house. My husband also took some beautiful pictures of the many butterflies and the deer that came down the mountain for a visit. My son also saw the trukeys. It was truely a wonderful vacation for us all. Thank you so much and thank your daughter for her help with the mixer. I needed one to make a cake for my husband's birthday. It turned out great. Thank you again for a wonderful time. Harris and Susan Mathis. Celebration, FL

Our family truly loved spending the month of July, 2008 at Brookside. The Peace and quiet, the beautiful woods, the fabulous wood beam home, were all enjoyed by everyone. We had several visits from a deer family (Mama, two fawns, and two young bucks), the birds sang all day, wild turkey family came to see us, and the deck was the scene of much visiting, guitar playing, and reading! What a lovely mountain paradise! We also enjoyed The Milling Co., The Red Star Diner, and an Italian Grill in Weaverville (when we could tear ouselves away from the house and cooking all the fresh produce from the Ashville Farmer's Market!!!!

We stayed at the beautiful house from 5/14 to 5/19. We rented the property for my daughter's graduation from Warren Wilson College and a family get together. We did some hiking and exploring of the property and just relaxed a lot on the inside. VERY spacious, neat, and of course very beautiful. The owners are very gracious and accomodating. Just buy food and relax!!! Thank you so very much.

We had a family trip (3 couples, 3 children, and 3 fur babies). A good time was had by all and we found the accommodations roomy enough for everyone to be comfortable. The outdoor scenery is gorgeous and the home is very nice too.
