Our light, airy house, located in the quiet village of Seal Harbor, provides a perfect home from which to enjoy and explore Acadia National Park and Mt. Desert Island. Park carriage roads and trails are virtually at your doorstep; walk to the Village Green and town beach. Wildwood Stables and the Jordan Pond House are about 1 mile away and Bar Harbor shopping and dining are a 15 minute drive. The house is furnished with cable TV, VCR, and DVD player and a washer and dryer and is WiFi enabled. We can offer information about restaurants, entertainment, and children's activities and we can recommend activities in the National Park to suit your interests.

Seal Harbor Cottage
The cottage was cozy and convenient (walking distance to a beach and the carriage roads; 15 minutes to Acadia and the shops and restaurants of Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor), but not quiet or at all private. The houses are very close together in this area, and the neighbors made noise into the night, making sleeping difficult at times The stairs leading to upstairs bedrooms are very small and steep. The cottage was also not particularly clean - had to wash slipcover for the couch due to dog hair. The first sweep of the floors also turned up a lot of dog hair. On the plus side (besides the accessibility), the owners are very friendly (there were fresh muffins on the kitchen table when we arrived) and the flowers and patio area are lovely.

Great Week in Acadia
If you're looking for a place to settle down and really get to know the island, this cottage is perfect. Its location is close to Jordan Pond, not a bad drive to Bar Harbor (12 - 15 minutes?) and close enough to Northeast Harbor to run out for groceries or breakfast if you want. We were particularly grateful to find a pet friendly rental as Acadia is one of the few parks that allows dogs on the trails. Most days we didn't even get in the car to go hiking - you can reach the carriage trails by walking up the road about a half mile.
Joan and Allan are friendly and accommodating; they live next door so they could answer questions if necessary, but there is plenty of privacy between the two houses. They also work hard to make the cottage feel like home - there are guidebooks, puzzles, books, and even homemade muffins!
The only thing I would warn about is the relatively steep staircase up to the bedrooms - if you have young kids you will want to bring a gate.
This cottage really is as quaint and welcoming as it looks. We will definitely be returning in the years to come.
