Nice, clean little house with pros and cons.
We stayed in the front house-the rate was great. This house has pros and cons. Our reservation was a a little rough:I called the owner, who was very nice. She directed me to a website for payment-upon receipt of payment we were supposed to be sent keys. A few weeks after I realized I had not heard from the owner and we were set to arrive in less then 10 days! Only after I called was I sent a "key package" that arrived a couple of days before we left. I did not realize the listing was for 2 houses, one behind the other. That was fine, but confusing when we arrived and the keys did not work to get into the house that was pictured. (They have similar amenities.) A better description of the 2-house set-up & the parking would have been helpful. The house was charming &clean with cute furnishings & private parking with carport in back. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking - I appreciated the tea, kettle, & spices in the cupboard. The queen beds were uncomfortable, so my husband and I slept in the back room on very comfortable twin beds. When we arrived the in afternoon the house was HOT, and there was no AC. SC is not usually hot, but it does have hot days, and I was surprised that I could not find a fan-no ceiling fan, no desk fan, nothing. The house is close to businesses and college housing - it was loud. The neighborhood generally felt safe, until the last night we were there & I heard gunshots... very close. The prior night the neighbors were outside having a loud conversation, outside the window, at 1 a.m. The conversation was innocent, but three feet from our window, so definitely disruptive for sleeping. The parking in front of the house was always taken. To get behind the house you must drive between the fence and house -- it is VERY narrow (my car barely fit, a large vehicle would not). There are only 2-3 spaces for both houses, & you have to do some careful maneuvering to fit. We were left only one small towel set per person & the washer requires quarters (no soap provided). Since you pay a hefty fee for cleaning, I thought that was bogus. Tips: Bring a fan. Linens are minimal - bring extra blankets, pillows, and towels. Bring beach towels & anything else you might want at the ocean (like chairs or picnic blankets) because there is nothing there for your use. Also, the house was not rented out after us, but the cleaners still showed up a little after 10 a.m. while we were packing. I was refunded my deposit very quickly, which I really appreciated
Tourists without a Car
Owner's Response: Good suggestions. Next summer, we will provide fans in the house, give guests more than two bath towels, two hand towels, and two washrags PER BED, tell those with SUVs to park on the street. We'll also put in some beach chairs and beach towels.
Thank you for letting us know what it still needs.
