About Charlie Boucher

Charlie and Cherryl Boucher have owned and rented this rustic cottage on the cove for 6 years. They take pride in their place and love to share it with others. They have lived in the area for 18 years and choose this cottage because of the beauty and serenity that it offers.

Charlie Boucher purchased this cottage in 2006
Why Charlie Boucher chose Hillsborough

Having lived at summer camps for many years this cottage reminded them of the great times along the lake shore when they would sit back and enjoy the roaring campfire and watch the ducks, beaver, geese and blue heron paddle by. The lawn between the cottage and the cove offers a great space for hanging out with family and friends enjoying a cook-out, reading a good book, or taking an afternoon nap.

What makes this cottage unique

Folks return every year because of the great view, to take a paddle in the canoes, hike the miles of trails in the nearby Fox Forest, do some great fishing, and tour the Monadnock area.

Great Time!

The cottage was just what we were looking for as a base camp for the annual fall fishing trip. We were looking for a place in the Monadnock area and this place filled the bill. The location on the cove and view out the front window is outstanding. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen has everything, I even found a nutmeg grater for the Fettuccine Bolognese. There is a Shaw's Supermarket close by and the owner had a Shaw's discount card hanging on a hook near the door, nice touch. We got some great steaks Saturday and fired up the charcoal grill, grilling with that view and a couple of beers is hard to beat. The living room had a good size flat screen with cable, a wood stove and a couch and enough comfortable chairs so that everyone could enjoy the baseball playoffs. The one thing I wished for was some brighter bulbs in the lamps, my eyes aren’t what they used to be and trying to rig up fishing gear at night was a challenge but just a minor inconvenience. We fished the North Branch and Contoocook rivers, conditions looked perfect but the fishing was sporadic, what can you do. The real gem (no pun intended) is Emerald Lake, right out the front door. I caught about a 1lb Largemouth off of the beach first cast. We took out the canoes and had a great time catching Largemouth Bass and a few Pickerel. The lake is stocked with trout and I did see a couple hanging around the inlet, but I imagine it is pretty much “put and take” after stocking. All in all a great time, looking forward to next years trip.
Owner's Response: So glad that you had a great time at our cottage. Looking forward to having you back in the fall!

Great area for hiking

Submitted: January 9, 2013 Stayed: November 2012
This review is being written with awareness that we stayed one night at the cottage. I felt that the description for the rental was consistent to what we experienced. The home was clean, heated, frig was cold when we arrived, bathroom was clean. Plenty of room for a variety of number of guests. Quiet area. I liked having added information before we arrived of the local state forest so I can plan to take advantage and spend both days hiking . I asked several questions before we came and Charles was responsive with reliable feedback to the questions.

We were happy to be allowed to bring our pets- who were also happy and well mannered.

Wonderful Setting

Submitted: December 27, 2012 Stayed: October 2012
We had a great time at this cottage on the cove. Very pretty setting. We loved being able to walk up the street to the Fox Forest State Park and hike the many trails. The cottage is well equipped and accurately described. It is clean and neat. We had no problems with our stay. Owner is easy to work with and very helpful.

We had a great time exploring the area antique stores and visiting Hillsborough Center (colonial village around a green). We look forward to coming back again next year, if we can. We felt the price for our stay was very reasonable for a 3 bedroom place on the water.

very enjoyable lakefront cottage

My family stayed in the cottage in October. We loved it! It was charming, cozy, and unpretentious. A rustic place, but with all of the basic necessities for comfort. We enjoyed the lovely view of the cove on the pond. That really makes the setting special. The listing description is accurate. The property was clean and inviting when we arrived. It really was just what I was looking for. A place for my family to gather and enjoy this beautiful section of New Hampshire. The kitchen was well equipped and we made some wonderful meals. The owner was responsive and there were many pamphlets of local sites and activities. There is great hiking in the state forest which is right near to the property. Be sure to take a map! I would recommend the cottage to anyone who enjoys lovely countryside and rustic settings. Advisory: There is no land telephone line and our cell phones were not working.
Owner's Response: Ruth so glad that you enjoyed your stay. We really try to make our cottage to be a great place to get away from it all. So sorry that your cell service didn't work for you. We use US Cellular and Verizon and and it works for us. Thanks.

Where to begin..

I rented this property with out taking a first hand look at it and that was my mistake!

The description of the property was accurate because if you notice there really is no mention of the CONDITION of the property. Smart marketing..

This property was dank, smelly and dirty! There was grime on the shower doors, mirrors, walls, floors, kitchen appliances etc. The curtains had stains, couch coverings smelled of mold, and that "nice view" from the enclosd porch was barely visible through the dirt and grime on the windows! The bathroom sink had one leg and it kept falling down!..lol..

The photograph of the little beach depicts somewhat of a nice watering hole, good enough to swim. The real picture is not like that at all. The whole area in front of his beach is covered with lilly pads, smells and looks like swamp water! I guess I had to read in between the lines when the owner stated "swimming is best enjoyed at the nearby beach"!!

In my opinion this property is barely maintained and it's obvious the owner does not take pride in ownership!!!!!!

If you like to stay in a place that is unsanitary, smelly and everything falling apart, this is the place for you.

I would not recommend this property to anyone!

PS. Charles, the cottage you own is off Melody street not Meghan Lane where you sent us out of the way. You really should learn where your property is located!!
Owner's Response: Donna,

I am sorry that you felt like that you did not have a good experience at our cottage, and we were not able to meet your high standards. We know that we are not the Hilton and are not attempting to offer that. But rather, a charming cottage on the cove of a small lake. We try hard to offer a clean, cozy retreat atmosphere and know that your description of the maintenance of the cottage is unfounded. We have many people who come back year after year and absolutely love the place and the number one reason they offer is the view that they enjoy of the natural cove. We ask guests to leave us a completed evaluation form and over the years over 97% of responders indicate that they are extremely satisfied with the accommodations, location and costs.

I am sorry that you ran into a street detour that sent you around the entrance to our cottage on the day of your arrival. The bridge repair was quickly completed, and we now have a brand new bridge.

Our Vacation

This was the first year that our family decided to rent a water front cottage, I think it was the best decision that we made. I looked at many places before discovering this listing and we rented it. I found that the description of the property was accurate, the property was very clean. The owner was very helpful and provided excellent customer service. I have already recommended this cottage to many of my friends and family members, we really felt as if we got our money worth. My favorite experience while at this cottage was waking up every morning as the sun broke over the horizon and eating breakfast as the morning colors reflected off the water, watching a small group of ducks make their morning journey up the cove, stop for a while and bath before returning out to the main body of water. I would say that the only thing that rivals that experience was watching the sunset while sitting around the campfire with close friends and family making S'mores, the minor noise from the day would cease and mother nature would preform a natural and smoothing symphomy as we drifted off the sleep. As you probably guessed we loved this cottage. I almost forgot, this was the first vaction that we have been able to bring the family dog and not have to put him in a kennel.

Truly Delightful

My husband & I have been renting the cottage for a few years now and enjoy it more each time we come. The cove is very peaceful and quiet and we enjoy sitting around the camp fire on a good night. The cottage is very spacious and comfortable. On rainy days we like to go into Keene and visit the small shops on Main St. or simply sit on the porch and read. My husband really enjoys taking the canoe out to fish.
