Cheticamp House Rental Photos and Description
- 3 BR, 1 1/2 BA, Kitchen, Living Room, sleeps 7

This historic Acadian house on Cheticamp Island has fields down to the harbour and sunny views from every window. Peaceful privacy w. easy access to Cape Breton HIghlands National Park (10 minutes) and town of Cheticamp (7 minutes) with restaurants, shops, music, and whale cruises. Island is connected to mainland and Cabot Trail by a causeway running along a warm water sandy swimming beach. From house, trails lead to beach, high Capes on the Gulf of St Lawrence, and lighthouse at the tip of island. Enjoy a family vacation hiking in the Park, strolling paths on the island, swimming at the beach, paddling the harbour, playing horseshoes, picking blueberries, biking to the lighthouse, or taking turns lying in the hammock, admiring the fabulous views. Recently renovated house features wood stove, laundry, WiFi, cable, full fleet of bikes, small boats, and much more. Reserving for the fall and for summer 2011.

A house with a story!

Perched above the harbour that separates it from the town and the Highlands National Park , this simple Acadian style house was was originally located at Cap Rouge in Park. When the Park was established in 1940, it was removed (floated!) to Cheticamp Island. The house is fully renovated and equipped and is happily surrounded by acres and acres of hay fields and forest. The 'Queen' of Cheticamp Island!

This wonderful property is located on Island Light Road, a dirt road that runs along the harbour of Cheticamp Island, from the warm sand beach at the causeway that leads to the island, to Point Enrage and its lighthouse at the north end of the island. A good road for walking and for biking. Trails from the back of the house lead to the head land capes on the the 'back of the island'- 150 foot cliffs over the Gulf of St Lawrence. Many berries to pick on the way, and whales, seals, and eagles of several kinds to visit.

The house provides a private retreat for a couple, or a happy vacation for an entire family. We love children, and responsible dogs.....both can run free to their heart's content. The house is far back from the quiet road, well equipped with games, books and bikes. Rowboats.

Joyous Return to The Blue House

We had stayed at the Blue House in 2010 and loved it, so we were all looking forward to another stay. And we were not disappointed. It was clean and even new-seeming, although the house itself is old; owner Gretchen has really fixed it up beautifully.
The house is cosy without being small, and is so well decorated that it makes you want to rush out and buy blue glass jugs and brown, shell-decorated scatter cushions just like Gretchen's. It has all the stuff you need for a good stay in the way of cooking, including all the paraphenalia needed to eat lobsters and crabs from the shell. Oh yum. Or anything else, actually, like a casserole.

We used the Blue House as our base for local activities such a whale watching and beach visiting--to far-away Inverness, closer Whale Cove and nearby St. Pierre.
My grand- kids loved it. Tallis, age almost 5, went into the water at all of them, as did Devon, age 10. So did my husband and son in law. My daughter sought sea glass at all of them and had quite a collection by the time we left.
Little Tallis thrilled herself and us by finding the only pale lavender glass, which is very rare. She also reached some kind of artistic bloom on this trip, perhaps because she saw pilot whales for the first time. She was soon drawing everything she saw, from flowers to pilot whales and all kind of sea life with her colored pens.

Devon loved the whales, and enjoyed one afternoon of Gretchen's marine biology course for teenagers, claiming with excitement that she actually touched a fish. She also came home with buttons to stick on her jacket, with sea creature pictures she had drawn, which Gretchen had taught her to make into wearable art.

At night, we sang songs around the firepit, roasted marshmallows and sipped hot chocolate, while looking up at the vast sky available to be seen above the house. The lights across the bay glittered like gems. And in the house, the wind blew sweetly through the windows, soothing us to sleep when we finally climbed up to bed.
Thanks Gretchen; you are a most accomodating hostess. And you have an awesome house!

Our family of 5 stayed here in July and it was a perfect family spot. Gretchen was a very helpful host and the house supplied everything that we needed. The location was great to drive to whale watching in Pleasant Bay and to visit the National Park for hiking. The golf course (Cabot Links) was close and a very beautiful course. The house is located near all amenities and comes with bikes/beach chairs/kayak/bbq/lawn games and a beautiful view of Cheticamp. I would highly recommend this home and we hope to be back again in the future!

Me and my family had a wonderful time. It was the 6 of us; me, my husband, my mother in law and my 3 kids and there was plenty of room for all of us. The home felt very comfortable and Gretchen was most graceful!! We enjoyed Cheticamp village and all it had to offer including a whale watch boat tour, we didn't see any whales but we did see many dolphins, and of course we saw the Cabot trail. We also went to the miners museum, which was a short drive away, as well as the puffin boat tour. Gretchen really went out of her way to see that her guests are comfortable, you won't be disappointed. We spent a week and really need more time to enjoy every thing. Oh and by the way, the scenery is truly breathtaking!!

The house and location more than met our expectations. We had almost forgotten what silence was like, but the hiking, biking and kayaking were a great diversion. We enjoyed our meals with a fabulous view, but equally loved the Bakeries and shops in Cheticamp, not to mention the close proximity to the Park and the most scenic part of the whole Cabot trail. We would love to experience this again with our friends.

Had a great time on our trip. Weather was PERFECT!!! The home was awesome and in such a great location. Fully equipped just like the ad says it is. We loved the beach on one end and the lighthouse on the other end of the island. Saw whales and seals from the island shore. Saw lots of wildlife (12 moose) in the National Park which is very close also. The owner G was great and very friendly. Would love to come back and do it all over again. Thanks!!
