Magical get-away

Suzy B Los Angeles, CA USA
Review Submitted: February 17, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
This truly is a fantastic get-away retreat. A beautiful home with additional buildings with apartments in a very lovely, private setting: magical gardens with intriguing paths, a private compound, beautiful accommodations with every creature comfort, including a real cook's kitchen. Everything is top quality (high thread count cotton sheets, excellent mattresses, comfy duvets, comfy furniture), classy, tasteful, scrupulously clean. Comfortable nooks everywhere. A wonderful place for a romantic getaway, or for a large family reunion.

In the heart of old Leucadia, close to wonderful cafes, restaurants, beaches, walking streets, etc. The only problem: The property is so delightful, serene, comfortable with nearly every creature comfort, that it's difficult to leave to explore the environs.

Wonderful food stores nearby, excellent restaurants, beautiful beaches. This property is in a quiet, beautiful neighborhood.

I've been recommending this property to everyone I know--it's perfect for any age group, for large or small groups of people, for short or long-term stays. Well, maybe not short-term: it was a wrenching experience to leave after only 5 days--I wanted to stay forever.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your review!

Great House, Perfect for Family Affair!

Review Submitted: October 29, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
My whole family fell in love with this house. Plenty of space for each couple and all kids to have their own privacy and spread out. Amazing patio space with various nooks, tables & chairs (including wonderfully big, beautiful patio table with enough space for us all to dine together under the stars), walkways, beautiful landscaping - we hardly spent any time inside! Easy access with the beach just a couple minute drive away, and lots of goodies provided in the shed: bikes, bookie boards, buckets & shovels. Great place to reconnect - we were sad to leave and very much hope to return!

Awesome Family Retreat

We had a fabulous week here with three families in August. The kids adored the yard to play capture the flag. The adults loved the various courtyards for cocktails and quiet time. We ate so many meals at that wonderful square table outside that sits 10 easily and many fun board games there too. The kitchen with the big open windows was the perfect go between to the courtyard as we passed out big bowls of pasta, salad etc. All the beds were so comfortable and well maintained. The jacuzzi and hammock other fun spots for the kids. The two houses served us well as one house stayed up later than the other but there was no noise issue at all. Can't wait to come back!

Fabulous Farewell to California

The Casitas at the Hacienda Retreat in Old Leucadia is a well kept secret paradise resort. My two young adult children and myself had an amazing two month stay at the Casitas as our final residence before returning to the East Coast. We adored the courtyard, the location, and the atomsphere of the place. Everything is within walking distance, be it food at a farmer's market, music at a local restaurant, or just enjoying the property with friends.
We loved it, and hope to return in the near future.

Hacienda Heaven :)

The property is great! Fun and funky feel, yet elegant. Very clean! Lots of privacy and places to sleep, yet plenty of room for togetherness, too. Extra niceties included like lots of beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas, boogie boards, bicycles, paper goods and spices and such in the kitchen. Property manager is easy and nice to deal with. It felt more like staying at a friend's house than a rental property.

Okay, so this is more than you need to know, but ...
Arriving on a Sunday,
That famous day of rest,
Was certainly ideal to start
A week as this house guest.
We gravitated mostly
To the table in the back ...
For bringing friends and family
All together you've a knack!
We sat and told some stories
(So maybe they were lies)
Of how we caught those killer waves
Of huge and gnarly size.
We soaked in the Jacuzzi,
We barbecued some steak,
So happy were we in this place
We found it hard to take
A single trip to see the sights -
Of course there's lots to do
From Ocean Beach to racing tracks
And don't forget the zoo.
But then again that Moonlight Beach
So close to "home" was grand -
The boogie boards were put to use
And beach chairs in the sand.
Perhaps our favorite day of all
Closed oh so peacefully
As color filled the dusky sky
And sunset met the sea.
Each day we made discoveries
Enjoying something new
From swinging on the porch out front
And tikis (one or two!)
To foosball games hilarious
'Tween grandmother and son
From ten years old to eighty plus
There's something for each one ...
Spider webs for nature buffs,
Kitchen for the cook,
Loungers in those shady spots
To sit and read a book.
By now you've prob'ly go the drift
We kinda like it here -
It's just the kind of place we could
Come back to every year.
The owners feel like friends because
There's such a welcome feel
And Chris has been the easiest
Of folks with which to deal.
So thank you very kindly
For your hospitality
And though we've never met you
We're as grateful as can be."
