The day I was to check in around 1:30 P.M., I received a call stating that the AC was not working and that the repairman would be there soon, but that we could go in early as the cleaning lady was done. So, in the middle of my lunch, I had to get up and go let the AC guy in. When I got there, the AC was working and I thought what a beautiful place. Well maintained and decorated. I was wrong. The place was dirty, with LOTS of dead bugs on the floor and on the oven fan and light. Bathrooms were not clean so I had to clean them along with the oven fan/light before we could use them. I emailed her right away about the uncleanliness and she called my cell phone and told my daughter that I was fabricating and that she took offense, so I sent her pictures, which she never acknowledged. The AC worked on and off, mostly off at night, and we had to spend 3 nights with no air at 82-86 degrees inside the house. The owner did keep trying to get the AC fixed BUT expected us to be there when the AC repairman came saying Now if you don't answer your phone and let him in, and have no AC, it is on you. Not sure about you, but I don't think that staying there on our vacation to let him in should have been our responsibility. She also took no responsibility in the place not being clean even after I forwarded her pictures of the bugs and the toilets. I wrote to her after returning home, and did request our cleaning fee deposit as well as one night rate be returned due to the inconvenience of no air for 3 nights and the fact that my husband stayed around to ensure that he be there for the AC guy. She did return a day's rate but said the place was clean. Not sure what her idea of clean is but it is not the same as mine. I would love to be able to post the pictures that I took of what her idea of clean is. There were some good things. The weather was nice, and the distance to the beach was in walking distance, however if you are taking a lot of stuff to the beach, I would recommend the golf cart. The outdoor pool has been updated since my last stay so if you have little ones, they will enjoy it. The lake is beautiful but be prepared for a lot of bugs in the evening.
Owner's Response: We were unable to check renters allegations about the homes cleanliness at the time of check-in. We have had the same cleaning company for over 3 years and never experienced any problems. The air conditioner repair men had difficulty determining what was wrong with AC per when they got to our home the AC was working at that time. I made several attemps to talk with the renter in person, but was unable to do so. I did talk with renters the week before and the week after and they were very satisfied. I gave her what I felt was a reasonable refund. I would like to say thanks to all of the Families that have stayed with us in the past and in the future for taken care of our home and for the kindness you have given me and my family. As always, hoping you take the time to smell the sea breeze and to feel the sand between your toes.
