Beautiful place for a quite family vacation.

My family and I spend the whole week on the lake and had a great time using the kayak, paddle wheel boat. Even our dog (german sheapard) was relaxed and ate all his food twice a day (he is not very hungry dog). The house is very comfortable. It has a hot tub and screened-in porch which I enjoyed. We fed swans and ducks. My older kids (18 and 15) kayak every day, while my little one (3 years old) like to be on paddle wheel boat.

A hidden gem

Let me start off by saying I almost don't to write a review so that the availability stays good for our return trip. This lake house was excellent, cozy but plenty of space for my fiancé, myself, and our puppy Otis. Could've easily had another 4 people stay along with us with the 2nd bedroom and pullout couch. The fishing was amazing, we literally caught 6 species of fish with a 6lb bass to boot on 2 days of fishing. All catch and release so there's still fish left for future guests ;) I actually proposed to my Fiancé right on the dock on our first day with the beautiful backdrop of the lake! It was perfect.
All in all the town was amazing, try Jefferson diner and Alice's, and being less than an hour from manhattan it doesn't get any better. Also theres B&Js market not far from house that sells bait if anyone wants to fish with worms.
Only warning is, if fishing on the lake and having a small breed dog tethered in the dog play area be watchful of hawks! There were three looking at my puppy as lunch, thank god we spotted them and moved the pup inside before something horrible happened. The hawks were perched on low branches right in our backyard! One day we saw 6 hawks flying over the lake. Bird watchers paradise at Lake Shawnee.
We will be returning next year without a doubt.

Wonderful Relaxing Spring time stay

My boyfriend and I stayed at the house over a long weekend this spring. The house is clean and cozy and really does have everything you could possibly need from cooking supplies to towels. We spent hours just lazing and reading on the front porch and in the living room (it was a little chilly) taking in the gorgeous lake view, which is the first thing you'll see when you walk in the front door. The hot tub was also great for those chilly spring days. We took a little trip out on the lake and watched the hawks souring above. It was a perfect weekend.

Great winter escape

Had a great winter getaway here in some very cold temperatures. The view of the frozen lake was perfect while sitting in front of the fire (which we kept going most of our stay, firewood conveniently provided by hosts), and the hot tub had kindly been turned up to be ready for our arrival. The house is totally charming - a great getaway from the city. And just our luck - there was an ice-fishing competition the day we arrived, so we were inspired to walk out on the frozen lake and check out the action. We found a couple charming, local restaurants and ventured out one day to ski at mountain creek (1/2 hour away). A great stay overall.

Extraordinary lake house

Five of us had such a wonderful time at Jeff & Kathy's lake house. Location was really close from new york, and the place is just fantastic. Beautiful house, beautiful atmosphere, beautiful lake, I have been to many houses through homeaway but this place is the best of all. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy our winter getaway! We will definitely come back next summer!!

Beautiful place at Lake Shawnee

This house is just perfect! The location is great in a beautiful neighborhood. It feels like it's away from everything but the store and nice restaurants are just minutes away. The cottage is so cozy and well equipped that we opted to have most meals at the house instead of eating out. The screened in porch is wonderful and so is the hot tub. There is plenty of bedding and towels, dishes etc. I wish we could have stayed longer!

Charming Lake House

My husband and I stayed here with our two dogs over Labor Day weekend and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house is well stocked with everything that you need (linens, towels, cookware, dishes, etc.) and is perfectly situated on a wooded lot with a fabulous view of Lake Shawnee. I was concerned that it might be noisy during the holiday weekend, but it was very quiet and peaceful. Curling up with a book on the screened in porch is a must do. The paddle boat was fun and we got some exercise walking the ~3 mile loop around the lake. Looking forward to renting here again next year.

We really enjoyed the time spent in the cottage. Our best friends met us for the getaway and we all had a wonderful, relaxing time. Three of us, along with our black lab, took a nice boat ride around the lake in the canoe. Other times were spent gazing at the lake from the dock, patio or screened porch. We even made it to the Third beach as recommended and had a terrific picnic lunch and swim. The cottage is beautifully appointed and very comfortable for sleeping and relaxing. We would definitely like to come back again in the future!

I came with a small group to enjoy a relaxing weekend away from the city and couldn't be more happy! The house was great, offering everything we could ask for. We loved the outdoor dining area and screened in porch. The swimming beach was very close, along with access to restuarants and the grocery store. Jeff and Kathy were very helpful and informative. This a great low key retreat; we can't wait to come back!
Owner's Response: The screened in porch is one of our favorite places too. It lets us stay outside, even after sundown when the mosquitoes come out to play! Thanks for your kind words, and please come again soon.
