We've returned to Bird Town so many times, I've lost count. For us, it's a retreat, a time to unplug and unwind. Gentle walks around the property, visiting the ducks (DUCKS!). Sleeping late. We've visited the Oak Moon Creamery, bought gorgeous pottery, eaten in several local restaurants, and had lovely visits with the owners and hosts, Mary and Alli. This visit the apple trees were in bloom, so that was a bonus.

Best though, I think, is the gorgeous uninterrupted mountain view. It is amazing to watch, all day long. Like watching the ocean tide come in and out, the mountain changes constantly. Ahhhh...

BTW, the mattress is the best. Love the mattress!!!

Where to begin..........I went into this reservation expecting a normal weekend and got much more. To begin with Ms. Mary is the coolest woman on the planet earth, from Chicago, left handed, and can handle a tractor like no other. I traveled with my two dogs and girlfriend we had an awesome time. There is no need to leave the cabin at all, it is very up to date and has an exquisite movie selection. The property is surrounded by beauty and things to do, from hiking the numerous trails, sitting by the pond, or watching the pups chase a flock of turkeys. It also was nice that we got like 8 inches of snow. I will certainly spend all of my mountain get aways in Bird Town and would reccommend this property to anyone that is looking for privacy and relaxtion. I certainly enjoyed my stay and if I had a third hand I would give it 3 thumbs up. Thanks for an awesome time Mary, I look forward to seeing you in the near future.

My mate and I booked BirdTown Guesthouse for the long Thanksgiving weekend. Our goal was to find a quiet, cozy place to stay that would be convenient to some mountain hiking trails. Boy, did this place fit the bill!

The furnishings were tasteful and comfortable, the cabin was neat as a pin, and the deck looked out over some truly beautiful scenery that took on different characteristics as the light changed over the course of the day. I can see why a photographer (one of the owners) would choose to live in this spot! Speaking of the owners, I have to say that Mary and Alli were terrific. We stopped by their place to say hello and they were so cordial and welcoming!

There was lots of information provided about the area - restaurant recommendations and warnings, galleries to visit and trail maps of the several miles of hiking trails established on the property itself. We were easily able to find the right balance of touring the area, hiking the trails and then snuggling up in the cozy cabin with a glass of wine at the end of the day. The deck afforded views of the mountains as well as a clear evening sky filled with a million stars.

We are already planning our next trip and we're bringing friends! If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, nicely appointed and beautifully located place to spend some time, I highly recommend BirdTown - I promise you won't find a nicer place to stay, or a better value.

We had a great time! The house was very cozy and it had everything we needed! The kitchen was super nice and the beds were very comfortable. The property has hiking trails and the views are beautiful! The owner was very helpful and accommodating.

My husband and I have stayed in vacation rental homes for 20 plus years. This is the first place we have stayed where the owner went above and beyond to make our stay....well, magical! From the beautiful views, fresh air and babbling stream to the perfectly furnished cabin. How delightful to have handmade pottery in which to drink our coffee and dishes to eat from! I was inspired in every way....from making pumpkin pancakes and hot spiced cider to taking photos of the scenery and painting with my watercolors. My dog, Max, thought he was in heaven when we hiked the mountain behind the cabin. I just can't say enough about Birdtown guest homes and their owner Mary Vogel. I can't wait to return!

My husband and I loved the cabin in the woods. It was very private, well equipped, comfortable and surrounded by woods and trails. My dog was in heaven.

Birdtown is everything we needed it to be for our 4 night stay this summer! The house is beautifully decorated, very comfortable and super clean. We were so grateful for the layout of the house, comfortable bed, well-stocked kitchen, excellent DVD selection, wine bar, amazing maps and area information, and generous owners. While we usually would not have even watched tv/cable on vacation, we did enjoy being able to access the cable to see some of the Olympics. LOVE the photography on the walls ~ wish we had time to see more. We could have been content to sit on the deck, day and night, or hike through the trails in the woods if we hadn't tried to squeeze so much in on this trip.
Take the recommendations from Mary to visit some of the local sights. Penland School, Oak Moon Creamery for the BEST goat cheese you will ever have (buy it on the honor system in town), wander to the Farmer's Markets on the weekend, stop by the new cooperative art gallery in Bakersville for something to take home for yourself, and definitely make a trip to Spruce Pine to enjoy an award-winning meal at Knife & Fork. All Mary's suggestions were spot on and we are excited to get back to enjoy more of the property and surrounding areas.
A special thank you to Mary for her help on our arrival to Birdtown ~ she expertly guided our little Prius up the mountain road with ease and care. Thank you for your generous and gentle spirit. We look forward to meeting Alli on our next trip. Cheers and happy peddling!

Really beautiful view and lovely home. This was a short weekend stay, but it was a peaceful one, no dogs barking, no neighbors making noise, overall very peaceful. Loved the view and rocking on the deck, got some rain at night sounds good on that tin roof! Thanks Mary nice place to put your troubles behind you for awhile!
