So nice to get away up on the Cabot Trail. We spent a lot of our time playing in the water on their pond. My son was 2 years old and his biggest thrill was to throw rocks into the water and watch them splash. There is an unlimited supply of rocks, and a lot of water. I read books and enjoyed the views and occasional seal that would pop his head up to take a look around. We went down to the pier and bought crabs from the fishermen as they came back in. Spent a few days hiking up behind the house too. Recommended if you want to get away.

My family of four visited Matheson House for a week a few years ago. We really loved the clean, comfortable, historic house. It was a fantastic, central location from which to explore Cape Breton. We found great day hikes or water adventures every day. We especially enjoyed hiking in the National Park, sailing to watch whales, swimming in the Indian Brook swimming hole, the Gaelic College, a benefit crab dinner at the Indian Brook firehouse walking distance from the house, and returning to Matheson House each evening to relax and plan the next day. It was a family trip with my children, now college age and "gone", which my wife and I will treasure always.
