Unanimous Thumbs Up for Cool Mountain Cottage

Get a way Medfield, MA
Review Submitted: July 26, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Our family of 4, including our 14 year old daughter, nearly 12 year old son and our two dogs, just returned from our second vacation at Cool Mountain Cottage. We returned to Cool Mountain Cottage for a number of reasons. The cottage fits the description given. We were nervous our first year as we had never used an online tool such as Home Away to locate a rental property. The cottage itself is very warm, inviting, cozy and homey. It has a large screened in porch where the family enjoyed breakfast and dinner, as well as a gathering place for playing games in the evening and the selection of games at the cottage is extensive enough that there is surely something to please all ages and tastes. The kitchen is complete with items needed to prepare meals at home. The living room is comfortable. Towels and all linens are provided. The beds are reason enough to come, talk about comfort and linens that are so very pretty. The cottage was very clean. There are magazines, books, tourist and restaurant information available. And, not least, homemade cookies upon our arrival, homemade brownies last year! Our dogs were made to feel as welcome as we were. Dog treats and big soft dog begs were a hit with our two. The cottage was our home base as we took full advantage of the beautiful White Mountains during our stay. The cottage is located on a steep hill, so it is not likely you would ride bikes from the cottage door. The area is quiet which we enjoyed. Away from the cottage, we enjoyed our hike to Glen Ellis Falls, and then an afternoon at Jackson Falls. Both are easy to get to from the cottage, and great places for young kids as well as kids the ages of ours. We spent a day kayaking on the Saco River. On our third third day Dad and 14 year old daughter hiked to the summit of Mt. Washington while my son and I hiked part way with them. All of us had a great time, but we were really proud of our summit hikers! Next day off to the Flume Gorge at Franconia Notch. A very, very beautiful place, and a lovely ride. We saw a bear crossing the road so that was a highlight! We did just a bit of shopping, though plenty is available. Our favorite breakfast spot away from the cottage was Peach's. We used our complimentary gift certificate at Delaney's and had a very good dining experience. As our vacation came to a close, our children asked if we can return to the Cool Mountain Cottage again next summer as we continue to explore all that the area offers.
Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the great review! We are so happy that you enjoyed the cottage for a second time and had so much fun in the Valley. It is very rewarding to us that you felt welcome and at home at the cottage.

Our first vacation with our Grandkids

Review Submitted: July 27, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This house was perfect for a vacation with our Grandkids. We have a 6 year old granddaughter Madelyne who loved her little room with the pretty pink bedspread. Brendan who is 8 loved the big bed with the cool flat screened TV with the remote. We all loved the chocolate ship cookies waiting for us. How did you know we love jazz? What a great first impression when we opened the door after the long ride up. The house is set up pretty child proof so we didn't have to keep after them to be careful yet the house is decorated so nice it made me feel like it was our 2nd home in the white mountains. Our dog Emily settled down pretty quick.(She not big on leaving her home in RI.) We had the extra room for a few other family members to spend a night or two which was also fun. We spent the 4th of July at the park in town listening to music and watching the best fire works I've seen in a few years. The house is located close to alot of fun things to do with kids no matter if it was raining or sunny. We had a few chilly nights so we were able to light the fire place which I really enjoyed. One of our favorite (there a few good places) places to eat which was not far from the house was Peaches they serve breakfast all day long.
We would love to come back in the Winter.

Cool Mountain Cottage

Perched atop a hill overlooking Cathedral Ledge, the cottage is close to everything you need, while providing wonderful privacy. You will need to bring little with you other than a vacation attitude, as the cottage is equipped with every amenity imaginable. We were particularly impressed with the cleanliness, and the welcoming presentation upon our arrival. We can't think of anything amiss; it was a perfectly fabulous get-away. Thank you!

This is the perfect location. It's a great mix between a cain and and home. The rooms are well appointed with nice puffs and pillows. There was internet access so we could stay in touch. Conversely, the fire place, porch and views really gave the cabin that feel you came for. We had fun.

Great getaway, cozy cottage

My girlfriends and I decided that we needed a weekend away in the mountains where we could just hang out, eat, and sleep. We had the best weekend. I was able to bring my dog and relax with my friends. Those that wanted to, were able to shop and walk around the adorable downtown area. The skiing areas were also accessible for those of us that wanted to ski or snowboard. With the fire going, we played board games and watched movies. The cottage beds were like clouds and each of us caught up on a lot of sleep. For those that are seeking a relaxing, cozy, and comfortable spot for a mountain getaway, Bartlett Cottage is the place for you!

Best Place to Stay in the area!!

We fell in love with this house and the amenities. It was beautifully decorated by the Julie Fergus and her husband. It looked like it belonged in a magazine! When we arrived brownies, wine and a roaring fire was awaiting us. The owners did everything to make us feel at home including telling us about the neighborhood dog Sundance that my kids had so much fun playing with. They liked her so much that they named our new dog Sundance as well. The kids still talk about our stay there. We hope to be back soon!

Julie - we are now back safe in Ohio and missing the mountains already. This was our 3rd NH vacation rental and your cottage was the best so far. The beds were great and we felt welcome in so many ways starting with the brownies. Overall we found the cottage very clean and well equipped and actually enjoyed some of the more rustic feel. The view from the porch is as good as it gets! Little touches like a dog bed and the neighborhood dogs even helped to make the dog's stay fun. The fireplace we found to be a great place to gather after getting the babies to bed, even did smores for the first time in a lot of years. The wifi was also great for a family like us with 3 IT people and a supply chain manager in the mix to at least allow for daily connects to e-mail to see that the workplace was not exploding. We will plan on a return visit next fall.

Location! Location! Location!

Review Submitted: September 22, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Our family of 8 adults thoroughly enjoyed our week at Cool Mountain Cottage. It possesses every amenity required for a comfortable stay in the mountains. (The wireless internet was great!) The owners are very accomodating and professional, the house is welcoming, clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed daily runs with beautiful mountain vistas, No Conway's quaint shopping area (only 2 miles away), tubing in the Saco River, hiking, picnics and a trip to the top of Mt Washington. Perfect for a casual getaway to enjoy quality time with your family. We prepared meals together, played board games till the wee hours and loved rocking in the rocking chairs on the front porch overlooking Cathedral Ledge. The location is fantastic for taking in all of the areas sights, but the house itself is great for just staying in as well. Highly recommend it.
Owner's Response: Thanks Happy Mom, It is great that families are enjoying the cottage for vacations. We're glad you enjoyed your time there. Thanks for the review, I think it is helpful for other families to know that the cottage will be good for them too. ~Julie & Tom
