Dear Melinda, Theo, Afrodite, Kimon and Rhea...
It has been an absolute pleasure meeting you all! Thank you for providing such a beautiful place to stay - You have created a real haven! (..or heaven!!).
Thank you also for all your help - without which the extra 3 weeks would have been impossible.
Wishing you all, and the cottage, much love, peace and happiness.

Excellent place to stay

We had a really wonderful time here. The cottage is beautifully decked out and it provides a magnificent view of the Aegeon. Both bedrooms are wonderful and the kitchen is great. The town of Molovos is really special with lots of atmosphere, wonderful restaurants, and shops. The beach is rocky but beautiful. The owners are warm and helpful. We would go again.

The Captain's View

Review Submitted: July 7, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Our family, including 3 20-year-old girls, had the most wonderful, relaxing, time in Molyvos. The location of the house was exactly as described, and when we arrived at night it seemed like we had stepped into a fairy tale village! We certainly got our daily cardio exercise walking up and down the streets and steps to town, and what a wonderful way to do that. One of our concerns had been the language issue, so we were thrilled to discover that almost everyone we met spoke perfect English, along with all the signage being in English. The location of the house was fabulous and we spent hours on the balcony in the mornings, eating breakfast (chocolate croissants with yogurt, honey and fruit) and drinking coffee. The house was delightful, with all conveniences including an electric juicer for fresh OJ. We traded a couple of books, and enjoyed a game of Scrabble. The girls loved the DVD and TV in the loft. After days out exploring we were pleased to come back to find the house cleaned, beds made and fresh towels set out. With the bakery and the three minimarkets in town we were well supplied with local fruits and vegetables, as well as all other necessities. The local, very comfortable, bus service to Anaxos, Petra and the hot springs in Eftalou served us better than the taxis. The owners, Melinda and Theo, were so helpful. Our luggage was delayed and they both spent a long time on the phone with the airlines trying to recover our bags. Take a morning to explore the castle, the hot springs, book a massage there. We rented a car one day and visited the Petrified Forest in Sigri as well as the museum, and then stopped at a couple of beaches and villages. I am recommending The Captain's View to everyone I speak to who wants to "get away", be fully immersed in the local culture and not surrounded by loud tourists.

A Place You'll Not Want To Leave

Dear Melinda and Theo: I know you’ve heard it many times before, but thank you for providing such a wonderful refuge from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We were hoping to have a peaceful and relaxing holiday and our stay in Captain’ View gave us just that - and so much more! Oh what we would give for just a few more mornings and evenings on the balcony!

Wandering through the cobblestone streets of Molyvos and visiting the shops was absolutely magical - with everything we needed just a short stroll away. We would highly recommend Captain’s View to anyone looking for complete relaxation in an absolutely fabulous setting.

It was a pleasure meeting you and your family, and your hospitality and help were much appreciated. It was so hard to leave your cottage - we even thought of becoming squatters! While we had to leave, we find comfort in knowing that we will return for more visits in the years to come.

Second visit just as wonderful as the first

Review Submitted: May 18, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Captain's View captured my heart when I stayed there for a month several years ago with a friend. Its location in the centre of the village enabled us to experience the rhythms of village life, to meet local merchants and neighbours and get a little bit beyond the typical tourist experience. I worried whether a return visit (this time for two weeks, with my partner) would live up to the memories of the first. It did, and more. The house itself is beautifully outfitted in every respect and lacks for nothing. The kitchen is so functional and well equipped that we enjoyed cooking what we found at the market each day.The bedrooms and bathrooms are comfortable and attractive. The presence of a washing machine allows you to pack light. Everything works and the owners are very responsive when there are questions. The view of the sea, the fishing boats and the sunsets from the balcony are the stuff that novels and films are made of. The house sits between the castle and the harbour, just of the cobblestoned agora (market stree) and every part of it is accessible on foot. If you enjoy walking, there is endless hiking to be done in the surrounding area -- you can walk by the sea, in the mountains, through pretty villages and olive groves. Just exploring the tiny laneways of Molyvos and the gorgeous meadows and seaside behind it is a treat, if you wish to stay close to home, but there are in fact monasteries and ancient remains to be seen as well. We rented a scooter for a week from a company in town (Euro Motors -- excellent and friendly assistance, great prices) and enjoyed travelling some of the spectacular scenic roads nearby. You do not need a car here, with or without a scooter. We particularly enjoyed being in Molyvos during the week leading up to Easter, which is a pretty time of year and an interesting time in the life of the village.
There are restaurants, tavernas and bars in every part of the village but not all are open in early spring. We didn't mind -- there were enough great options. We particularly recommend Captain's Table (run by Melinda and Theo, owners of Captain's View), the funky Molly's Bar, and souvlaki place called Friends. We would go back again and have recommended Captain's View to our friends who travel. It's hard to imagine how anyone could be disappointed.

In spite of our arrival so late in the season, we were very lucky with the weather and so managed to sit out on the balcony on most evenings to enjoy to spectacular views.

The location for this cottage is excellent, only a few metres from the bakery and handy for the shops and boutiques on the agora.

The owners were extremely helpful, organising a taxi for us from the airport, which is about an hours drive away.

Molyvos is one of my favourite places on the island, and we plan to visit again soon.

Highly recommended.

p.s. Visit the Captain's Table at the harbour for excellent fish

A Little Bit of Paradise

Review Submitted: October 21, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
We found the Captain's View as it was described with excellent amenities. Someone came in every three days to clean and change the sheets. The bedrooms and loft are accessed by spiral staircases. The balcony has a wonderful view of the harbour and sunset.
The owner was very helpful with information before we arrived and met us to get settled. They also have a wonderful restaurant at the harbour so we knew we could get them if necessary.
Molyvos is situated on a steep hill and the house is about mid-way up. So you have to go up (to the castle) or down (to the harbour). We parked at the castle. However, shops and restaurants are convenient and an excellent bakery is steps away. Lots of good food!
We came in early Oct and by mid-month many of the shops and restaurants were closing until April.

Another World

Gregan Edinburgh
Review Submitted: March 30, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2007
I've been going to Molyvos on the island of Lesbos off and on for more than 25 years - and have seen some changes in that time! For the past four years I and my partner have spent a couple of weeks in September at Captain's View and it is a little bit of heavan. Sometimes we have been joined by friends for part of the time but mostly we have been there by ourselves - and the temptation to stay put in the house, reading and relaxing, has to be fought! To have breakfast on the veranda every morning (with fresh croissants from the bakers not a hundred metres away) looking out to a spectacular view cannot be matched anywhere - and I've travelled to most corners of the World!

The owners, Melinda and Theo, are now great friends and reading through the comments book kept in the house, it is clear that they have many friends indeed as they provide an exceptionally high level of service at the house, which is always clean and welcoming - a couple of bottles of wine from their popular fish restaurant in the nearby fishing harbour (The Captain's Table) are to be found on the dining table upon arrival too!

The house is located in a village which still retains much of the charm I remember when I first visited and, though popular with discerning tourists, you never feel that the place is overrun.

I hope I have said enough to convince you, though I also wonder if I am not just making things more difficult for getting a booking myself!!

Home away from Home

Review Submitted: March 27, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
My husband and I have been fortunate to have traveled pretty much of the world, and the one place we keep returning to is The Captain's View on Molyvos, Lesbos Island. The owners have taken great care to create an authentically "Greek" feel to the home while still maintaining all the necessary amentities to feel at home. It is clean, and it is charming, and we always look forward to our return there with great anticipation! We find it a romantic getaway, but at the same time it lends itself well for families and adverturers...no qualms in recommending it highly!

The Best Views in Greece

Review Submitted: March 27, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2007
This cottage isn't just a holiday let - it's a real home for home. So much so that we've returned year after year and can't bear to drag ourselves away. It has every amenity you can think of ... and even some you haven't! The views are simply the best you'll get anywhere in Greece, and the hospitality of the owners, Melinda and Theo makes it a joy to return. This is a truly special property; book it and you'll never want to stay anywhere else!
