Electrical problems, no screens, broken blinds

Date of Stay: August 2008
First the good: the condo was very clean and the agent was professional and responsive. The bad: 1) bedroom blinds fell down and could not be replaced. Had to block street view with pillows. 2) No screen on deck at oceanfront, therefore you couldn't leave deck door open to let sea breeze in. Owner did not replace when we were there as requested. 3) Only one very small dresser in a condo advertised for 4 people. 4) Bedroom ceiling light and fan blew circuits, leaving room with one 25 watt lamp. Owner refused to fix while we were there (clainmed they will have fixed at end of season). At my request, agent provided second lamp and brighter bulbs. 5) Many light bulbs missing/switches not working in kitchen/dining area and entrance hall. 6) When we first arrived at 11:00 p.m., no lights on out front to illuminate lock box and we were greeted by a creepy neighbor with alcohol on his breath who stcuk his head in our car and asked if we were lost. Then he went up the stairs with us and tried to open the lock box to the unit. He said he knew the lock box combination. He showed up the next morning when the agent's employee was there, said "Maintenance man!" and started to enter condo. I told him to leave. He may have been harmless, but at the least he intruded on our privacy and at the worst...? Not good at all. 7) If you're expecting to good view of beach from this condo, forget it. The dunes are higher than the condo. You can see some ocean but not the beach.
Owner's Response: Thank you for the constructive feedback. At the end of a busy season it is important to understand the condition of a property in order to make necessary improvements, as well as other items that need to be addressed. An agent was brought on board last year to have a local contact to address any urgent issues that may arise during a visitor’s stay. Unfortunately, each visitor has a different set of expectations, and unfortunately unexpected things happen while visitors are using a property. It should be mentioned that a full refund was offered at the beginning of the stay, and declined because of the items that we had no control over. The bedroom blinds have been installed for over a year without any mishaps, and the bedroom ceiling light and fan have never tripped a circuit breaker before. It was our understanding that once the breaker was reset there was no other issue during the stay. A new lamp was promptly provided. If the missing\blown bulbs would have been mentioned to the agent, it would have been expected that they would have been provided along with the new lamp. The cleaning checklist will now be modified to check that each bulb is in working order as the unit is cleaned. The light beside the door is not left on during periods of un-occupancy do to the collection of bugs. This is a residential building and there are no house lights to assist visitors that check-in after dark. There were no representations made about the availability of a screen door. Some rentals on the beach have them, others do not. Unfortunately, some visitors will leave the door open with the AC running, which leads to premature failure of the system. The view and dunes change regularly with the weather, part of the beauty of the area and also out of our control. So far they have never risen so high that you cannot see the ocean, but you can hear the waves and smell the salt air. The neighbor was trying to be helpful. We are sorry that his intentions were misinterpreted. To provide a fair assessment of the property it should also be mentioned that in the last three years the following has been replaced: Windows and screens, air conditioning system, refrigerator, water heater, bedroom carpet, washing machine, and tracks on the sliding door. With all of this said, we strive to share our property at a tremendous value for people that would like to visit this beautiful beach.
