There is only one way to describe Oceanmist. PERFECT. First of all, the house and decor are really beautiful. Secondly, the private grounds are amazing - far better than any picture can show. Thirdly, the view of the water and islands is as good as it gets. The entire house is fully equipped with everything we needed for a great vacation. Restaurant appliances in the kitchen, rubber boots for exploring the shoreline - they even have waffle weave bathrobes for everyone in the party. We met the owners (Dianna and Bob) and they couldn't be nicer. They assured us we could call them anytime for information on the area, activities, good restaurants, etc. We took them up on it and discovered great restaurants we wouldn't have otherwise found. But I think one of the most important aspects of the house is the warm relaxed feeling. The decor is contemporary Maine Cottage. There is a wood stove (and firewood) in the living room that adds a lot to the atmosphere. We've never stayed at a rental this nice and plan to return next year. And one more thing - It's really great to arrive at an immaculate house and find chocolate on the kitchen table and a bottle of wine a (with local cheese) in the refrigerator. I could go on and on but one last thing - the pillow top mattresses are the most comfortable we've ever slept on! This place is truly the perfect getaway.

My husband and I rented Oceanmist for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We couldn't have been happier with the house! It was very clean, spacious and had an amazing view. It was extremely comfortable and relaxing. The house had a great location to Acadia National Park. It was only a quick drive into the park and we loved the fact that the house and yard was so private. The owners were wonderful to deal with and made the stay very enjoyable. We would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay while visiting Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park!

The house is just as described, only better. Oceanmist has everything - quiet, views, a convenient yet secluded location, all the comforts of home plus some. The furniture is comfortable and the kitchen well-equipped. It's a great place to relax. Sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee and a book, with binoculars nearby, was heaven.
The owners are responsive and helpful without being intrusive. We followed their recommendations for restaurants, with great results.
We'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

Our stay at Oceanmist was perfect and feel that it is the best place to stay in Bar Harbor, especially if you are wanting seclusion and privacy and not be too far from town! The house is immaculate with an incredible view! Loved the kitchen and bath! The owners were always available to answer any of our questions. We enjoyed every minute of our stay in MDI. Would recommend the Beehive and Penobscot for hiking, Cafe this Way for dinner, the carriage rides, and the Margaret Todd Windjammer cruise. Of course it is a must to tour all that you can on the island. We recommend the book "Acadia" by James Kaiser.

WOW - "Oceanmist" is a beautiful, peaceful and exquisitely decorated and maintained home. It offers everything imagineable - peace and serenity - nature from the living room - adventure - hiking - sightseeing - some AWESOME local restaurants - and on top of all the above - you have your very own private island. My husband and I loved it from the pictures posted on "Home Away" - but it is even more beautiful when you first arrive in person and climb the stairs and look out on to your very own island from the gorgeous living room. To say "Oceanmist" is a beautiful home is definitely an understatement - this home is absolutely GORGEOUS and the owners have magically entwined nature and elegance with many unique and special touches. "Oceanmist" is by FAR the most beautiful home we have EVER rented anywhere in the entire world. It is exquisitly maintained and spotlessly clean. It is also located in a very private and romantic location - yet Desert Island, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are but a few miles away, all offering sooo many exciting and stunningly beautiful scenery. "Oceanmist" is most definitely a "high end" rental - and my husband and I would rate it a 10+++. We hope to return as soon as we possibly can - our week raced by far too quickly ...... but we have so many, many happy and wonderful memories to treasure. We would most definitely recommend other users of "Home Away" to rent "Oceanmist" - you most certainly will not be disappointed.

We have been visiting Mount Desert Island for over 20 years, which has given us ample opportunity to try various accommodations at numerous rentals, hotels, etc., all over the Island, and at different times of the year. Ever since we had the good fortune of discovering Oceanmist several years ago, we've never once thought to stay anywhere else. The house is cozy and warm during the crisp and chillier spring and autumn days, and cool and breezy during the warmer summer days. Oceanmist is very well appointed with comfortable furnishings and a fully equipped kitchen, is beautifully maintained and has a way of making you feel at home. The owners are wonderful, caring and thoughtful hosts. The privacy and peaceful tranquility of this property are amazing, especially given its proximity to Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor. The location is very convenient, with quick and easy access to the main roads that take you to all areas of the Island. It allows us to enjoy morning excursions at the Park (whether it be on the eastern, western or "quiet" side of the Island), then coming "home" for a leisurely lunch, and then heading back out for more. You'll also appreciate the proximity to Ellsworth should you ever find yourself needing a WalMart type store. It's also a quick drive to the Nature Conservancy's Indian Point Blagden Preserve, which, for some reason, doesn't get as much attention as the Park but is a beautiful site with lovely walking trails and amazing access to the shores of Western Bay. We have truly fond memories of our many stays at Oceanmist. It never disappoints, and we always look forward to our next visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our October stay at the beautiful Oceanmist cottage: the quiet and privacy, the ebb and flow of the tides, the majesty of the eagles that frequent the private island, and the central location from which to explore all aspects of Mt. Desert Island.
We loved driving (and hiking) our way through Acadia Park.
On a cool showery day after a particularly cold, windy hike along the coast we stopped in at Stewman's on the harbor where we sat by the fireplace and enjoyed a Mexican coffee and a bowl of their delicious lobster bisque - definitely one of many highlights!
We will most certainly be back for another stay at Oceanmist.

The week was magnificent and the housing arrangement was superb. House overlooks water and small island that is home to 2 bad eagles. The eagles set up residence at least once every day on top of the pine trees. It's fun to sit on the deck with morning coffee or afternoon cocktail taking in sights, smells and wildlife. House is very comfortable and we enjoyed cooking dinner and listening to some of the owner's cd's. We feasted on lobster, fresh crab, mussels, lobster again and hmmm lobster and clams. Hiked and fished Acadia. Had lunch one afternoon after a hike on the lawn at Jordan Pond. Went to Bar Harbor and Ellsworth Farmer's Market. Visited several gardens and took short and long walks along the carriage roads. Spent a relaxing evening soaking tired bones in the ridiculously large but luxurious tub at the house. Saw some wildlife: 3 deer, 2 loons, porcupine, the eagles, osprey, many other birds...

Also ate at the Bar Harbor Inn, a very nice meal - stuffed sole and lobster pie, delicious appetizer of smoked salmon and had breakfast on the porch at 2 Cats.

House was convenient to Acadia, Bar Harbor, many rivers, ponds and lakes ( for those who fly fish) and allowed us the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful vacation.

All said - a perfect 10.
