This gorgeous, brand new, waterfront Post & Beam cottage is located on a tidal cove. This location is unique in that you have lots of privacy, it is across the cove from a nature preserve & down a quiet wooded lane. It is also unique in that it is only an 8 minute drive to town. Very few locations on Vinalhaven have this unique combination of advantages.
You will enjoy beautiful sunrises, & sunsets reflect in the cove! Tidal coves are mud flats at low tide, which is great for birdwatching! At high tide the water is over your head & the mud warms up the water so it is possible to go swimming when the tide is right. If you have a kayak or canoe we have a natural stone area for launching your boat into the cove.
The grounds have spectacular Daylily gardens! The cottage is build on the site of a former saw mill, & the flywheel from the old saw mill sits as a giant sculpture in the Daylily beds.
Inside the house is an open living room/ dining/kitchen area, with large windows facing the water & the daylily gardens.
At high tide you almost feel as if you are in a boat the camp is so close to the water (only 10 feet from the high tide mark!). Although the cottage is new it is built on the site of an earlier camp that was very close to the water, which 'grandfathered' the location, building a house this close to the water is no longer possible.
The kitchen has granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, cherry cabinets & a tile floor. The rest of the living area & the bedrooms have red birch floors. The bath has a granite vanity, a full tub/shower, & there are lobster and crab tiles embedded in the shower walls.
