Summer Vacation

I spent a week in Maine for the first time last summer with my wife. We were looking for a quiet get away. We found that here. The house is set at the end of Hills Beach a short walk away from the "action." We spent our days taking long walks, reading and enjoying the views from the deck of the house. Great place for a bottle of wine. The house was clean and supplied with the essentials.

We enjoyed some meals at Buffleheads (within walking distance). We also took a trip into Kennebunkport and Portland.

Great Fall getaway

This house was wonderful. The site doesn't do it justice. The view and Beach access is incredible with spectacular sunsets. I've rented several homes and this house was very clean, uncluttered and the linens were crisp and very nice, all things I want in a rental. Great place to come in the summer, but I really liked it here this fall. I'm coming back for sure!

Great Family Vacation

I spent two weeks with my family at this house last summer. We had a great time! We also had wonderful weather. We spent most of our time outside. My children loved walking the beach at low tide. There is a sand bar allowing you to walk out to two little islands. We all found many treasures...sea glass, sand dollars, shells, crabs, etc. There is a small/private sandy beach across from the house. We rented some kayaks and launched the boats off the beach. It was great. We paddled over to Biddeford Pool, docked and enjoyed an ice cream before paddling back to Hills Beach. In the evenings we enjoyed dinner on the deck and watched the sunset. The sunset is spectacular from the deck of this house. It is a sight not to be missed. Several nights we joined other families on the beach for a bonfire and smores.

Besides spending time at Hills Beach, we were able to explore some other area beaches. We took a surfing lesson at Kennebunk Beach, enjoyed a day of boogie boarding at Fortunes Rocks Beach and hit the beach and pier at Old Orchard.

The house itself was clean and equipped with everything we needed - pots, pans, coffee maker, dishes, cable, grill, dishwasher and washer/dryer.

Only a nice view

This cottage is very well located and offers a beautiful view, but that's is all it offers for the rate. We just came back from spending two weeks, the first with children and second only adults, both parties agreed in this rating. it is not the first cottage we rent in the area and based on the others we were expecting much more. When we arrived we had to purchase a few minor but important things, such as coat hangers (not one in the wardrobes) toilet paper (only half a roll left), a pillow(there was only 5), only two bedrooms had a dresser. Upstairs there is a large empty room ???? kitchen is ok, but dining room, although rented for 6 has only 4 chairs, we had to look for 2 more that we found in the attic, all seatings in the living room are extremely unconfortable, unfortunately the weather was not very good and we had to spend more time then we wanted inside, so in order to have a minimum of confort we used our beach chairs. Distance control for TV did not work, we changed the batteries but it didn' help. Very cold decor, not one picture on walls or decoration whatsoever, nothing to make you feel welcome in the place. Downstairs, at bedrooms level, the portable dehumidifier is very loud and needs to be emptied twice a day or it becomes very unconfortable to sleep because of the humidity and the smell. Overall the rate versus the quality is not worth it. Too bad because this cottage has a lot of potential and could be very pleasant but needs some TLC.
Owner's Response: To Future Renters:
It was unfortunate to see that one of our summer renters in '08 was not satisfied with the property and wrote a negative review. We usually receive hand written notes about the wonderful vacation they have had, each week on the table when we meet the cleaning crew there before the next week of renters arrive. We have been renting for 5 years and never had complaints, so we take this very seriously and have made sure we are prepared for the '09 season.

In this case, we supplied the humidifier mentioned because the weather during those 2 weeks was unseasonably rainy and wet, maybe contributing to the bad experience. Also, we sent a contractor in to address all issues while the tenant was there and afterwards to make sure no items were left outstanding.
