Stones Throw Cottage is an affordable place to stay and close to everything. One of the bedrooms listed is actually a large loft that covers the entire 2nd story with a bed and chase lounger on one side and another bed on the other side, perfect for large families. We are located on the north side of Stony Lake in quiet Holiday Shores with lake access. A 2 minute walk down a private path takes you to the lake. A large deck with a grill and picnic table overlooking a beautiful hillside makes a great setting for a family BBQ. We are about 1 mile from Lake Michigan and 8 miles from the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. 10% discount for active duty military and law enforcement personnel. We definitely got away from it all...and loved it!
I'm a single mom of a 14 year old. We rented the cottage for Labor Day weekend. We were able to bring our pet cat which was a bonus. He's old and gets lonely easily...I just couldn't bare to leave him behind for a 3-day weekend. It had been difficult all summer to find an affordable cottage that also allows pets, but this one actually fit my budget. Usually things that fit my budget don't come with beauty, tranquility or excitement. This came with all 3! I was really surprised and relieved. My teenager assumed the same before we arrived and also thought she would be bored. But before I knew it she was begging to go exploring around the cottage and had a blast when I took her for a dune ride by Silver Lake. We both did. The scenery was amazing. We were spoiled rotten with all the farm fresh fruits and veggies that surrounded the area. The cottage was clean, quiet and equipped with all kinds of helpful necessities including maps and flyers for local entertainment. There was more space than we needed. I could see myself renting it with extended family or friends one day. My daughter has already made me promise to take her back. So, it did pass the "teen test". Which is surprising since she had to somehow survive with out texting or the internet;) We highly recommend it.

A wonderful unpretentious place
We spend two wonderful weeks at the cottage. It is quiet, set inthe woods, My kids and I loved it. We did simple things like fishing in Stony lake, blueberries u-pick, with the afternoons spend at the beach.
It is ideal for those who wish to slow down and relax

Peacful and relaxing Stones Throw Cottage
A group of 4 stayed at "Stones Throw Cottage" last week in July 09. We arrived late at night and found the Cottage a little difficult to locate - no problem if you arrive in daylight. The screen door and patio door screen were in need of repair but overall the Cottage was in very good shape. The kitchen was very well equipped. A nice big deck looking out to trees and a nice sunset. Fire pit was to the side of the house and user friendly. Some lighting by the side of the house (to help go up/down deck steps) would be helpful. We did find a flashlight worked for this as well. The beds were very comfortable and it was a real plus to have use of washer/dryer. We plan to book this same Cottage again in 2010 and would recommend it to others who are looking for a comfortable quiet get-away. I would recommend a rug and bath mat for bathroom. This cottage was close to everything and was in an area that allowed for nice quiet evening walks. A short drive took us to Lake Michigan or to Stony Lake store for some of the best ice cream. Blueberry picking & horseback riding were also close by.
We really felt at "Home" during our stay at Stones Throw Cottage and are looking forward to another peaceful weeks stay next year.
