Cayman Sands

Review Submitted: November 18, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2007
We were unfortunate enough to be in the Caymans during a late topical storm so the weather could have been a lot better but that didn't stop us from having a wonderful time. The only snag in the whole stay was that the pool heater was not working and the water was COLD. I was disappointed in the amount of trash on the beach, but very, very pleased with the house and the location and privacy. A great place to take your family and relax. Jim does a FANTASTIC job of preparing you for your trip.
Owner's Response: After you anxiously wait months for your Caribbean vacation-- it is so disappointing to have bad weather beat you to Grand Cayman. We had a late storm in the 2007 season with cold air from the northeast-- brought in flotsam (from cruise ships probably) and then our pool heatpump broke. Even though I don't turn on the heater until the ($) Dec 15 high season rates-- I would have gladly turned it on for this nice family- but a circuit board went out! Just raising the temp from the 75 degrees that week to 84 degrees would have made a big difference!

We have sinced repaired that pool heatpump and recently decided to replace it in November 2008 with a reliable (lagrer) Aqua-Cal Unit.

Doesn't do much good for these folks-- but we try hard to please all of our guests. They did enjoy the house and island I am sure.

Jim

What a beautiful villa.

Review Submitted: August 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We spent a week here July 2009. What a beautiful villa!! Eight adults and 5 children. Everyone had a great time. The children especially loved the pool. The grown-ups loved that the pool area was screened allowing nightime bathing without bugs! The sand was clean and white, great for kids. The ocean was too rocky for the kids to venture into but Rum Point is just down the road!! We loved it there and spent every morning in the ocean. Evenings were spent at Mimi's, Over the Edge or Portofino. All excellent restaurants. The Lighthouse was superb. The house had everything we could ever need and was as beautiful as on the pictures and much more roomy than expected. Only one thing could be improved, the barbecue in the front of the house was ancient and rusted and too dark there to cook at night. It would be better situated on the back porch were there is light on an evening from the pool. But even this did not stop us from having a great time.
Owner's Response: Thanks for the comments above-- we have had a new GALVANIZED grill on order for 6 weeks and replaced the rusted one in August 2009. If the grill was on the oceanside it would rust out in 3 months--so we keep it closer to the kitchen just outside the front door between the house and garage.

We try hard to keep things in shape--this grill rusted out within a YEAR!

The beach was rocky after the storm in November '08 from the north--it is much sandier now-- storms from the east actually add sand to our beach-

Perfect Honeymoon

Honeymoon Finally Clinton Corners, NY
Review Submitted: May 6, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
My husband and I were fortunate enough to stay at Cayman Sands for a much needed delayed honeymoon. We had been to Cayman before so we were able to just relax and do nothing in the perfect place all week. We have stayed in many rentals and none have been as well equipped as Jim's. He makes sure there are all the amenities you would have at home. The web site pictures are also accurate, something we have found with other rentals that are not. We had the privacy we would not have had at a resort without the price of a private island! Rum Point is my favorite, no need to go to 7 mile. The restaurant there was the best meal we had all week, other than my husband's cooking of course! The house allows for all the best you could want in an island vacation.

Fantastic Place - Wonderful Family Memories!

Beautiful accomodations, including the cottage. We can't say enough positive things about this lovely villa. Jim Leavitt was extremely helpful in sending information to help prepare us for the visit to Grand Cayman. We absolutely loved being on the North side- more quite and the people were very friendly.

Cayman Vacation

Sunseekers Inc. Norton Shores, MI
Review Submitted: January 27, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
I just wanted to take a moment to say how wonderful our stay was at Cayman Sands. We had a total of 8 of us ages ranging from 12-57, and everyone had a marvelous time! From the beachfront, ocean view, to the pool, and well stocked and modern home, it made for a very pleasant, comfortable stay! Our only regret is that we had to leave! Jim was so great in helping with all our scheduling issues! If planning a visit here, a few great restaurants worth trying are Portofino's, Over the Edge, and The Cracked Conch. If you are a diver, don't pass up the boat dives at Morritt's Resort or the shore dives at Turtle Cove! Our group is very well traveled, but I have to say that Grand Cayman tops the charts, and the East End location of Cayman Sands definitely warrants returning! Thanks so much!

We stayed at the Cayman Sands and guesthouse in March 2008 and had such a wonderful and relaxing time. Our family of 12 stayed there and it was perfect for the 3 families. We would be hard-pressed to stay in a hotel now that we've been spoiled with the private home experience. Jim was awesome to work with and we'll definitely be heading back to The Cayman's and hopefully The Cayman Sands again soon!

We went in February 2008. We had an awesome time in the Caymans, and were very spoiled by staying in this awesome beach home. We traved with my whole family, in total 14 of us ranging from my 4 month old to my parents. It worked perfectly for my parents to stay in the guest house, away from all the kid commotion. Jim's information was awesome and helped us to enjoy every minute. Especially the hammocks & pool. Everything was perfect, and we can't wait to go back in 2010. We are just debating...we might try his castle. Absolutely perfect for my sons, age 8 & 4 at the time. They loved chasing the little lizards. Plus, Jim had lots of pool toys and sand toys for them to enjoy!! Thanks again for such an awesome place.

Three couples spent a week at this rental to celebrate 50th BD's ....wonderful time!! Plenty of room to be together or do your own thing. The gazebo by the beach was a great place to watch the sunset each night. Very private, quiet setting if your not into crouds or being bothered by noisey neighbors. Had everything we could need or want, just needed to bring our own food & beverages. Love this rental!!!!

Our Cayman house experience

Catch some Rays Little Rock, Arkansas
Review Submitted: December 8, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
The property was everything it was represented to be and more. The best thing is all of the information our host Jim gave us prior to our arrival. The information and recomendations Jim gave us prior to arrival helped us to enjoy every minute of the trip as though we had been coming to the Caymans for years. This was our first experience in a private home. Rob, Susan, Diana, and I usually go to all inclusive resorts. The house was perfect. Two master suites each opening up to the pool area was great. We loved the Gazebo at the waters edge. Nice breeze and great views. The snorkeling was great right off our beach. Our travel dates were Sept 25 to October 3rd. Very much off season, however, the weather was great the whole time. The temp was in the 80's, but it does get a little humid during this time. The great price of our rental, and the uncrowded dining made up for the air being a little thick. The house was great, but in our case it would have been better to have 3 or 4 couples instead of just 2. Our friend Rob loves to mingle and talk with people, and it was hard to keep him entertained. Cayman is a water wonderland. Enjoy your trip, we did.

Cayman Sands Great Place

Review Submitted: November 19, 2008 Date of Stay: January 2007
This is a great house, very up to date, well kept up, modern, very comfortable and convenient.
Beach is beautiful, pool is great, love the openness of whole house.
Jim's information on what to expect and island information is very complete, and correct and helps you find your way around on the North Side ( the quiet side) of the island.
Love the new resturant in the airport, handy for lunch before your flight leaves.
A great house for family with four bedrooms, or for two couples.
Three great resturants along the Northside and East end for dinner. Two good beach grills for lunches close to house, and beach convenient for boat trips especially the sting ray swims.
