Great Beach Getaway

We enjoyed our stay at this house on Casey Key. It has a very natural, heavily-landscaped yard, which gives privacy from some of the less naturally inclined neighbors - besides being on a wonderful beach, of course. The furniture is less than perfect, but we found that putting away some of the "extra touches" that the maids put out really improved the looks of the place. It could use some neatening up, however, with so many books just thrown up on the shelves etc. So all in all, I recommend this house but with the warning not to expect elegance, just a very nice relaxing visit.

What a delightful, relaxing, beautiful spot! Private beach---sound of the surf all night long---walked for a mile on the beach every day for a month and rarely saw more than 10 people. A secluded beach house with all the comforts. Five minutes by car from pharmacy and grocery store. Five minutes walking from the best Fish House in south Florida. Grandchildren built awesome sand castles. Wish we could have stayed longer!!

This house is beautifully situated on a fine beach on Casey Key - however, it is a long and boring ride from the real star of the neighborhood - Sarasota - with tremendous traffic. The swimming is grand and the appliances (clothes/washer and dryer, refrigerator) are fine - the dishwasher seems suitable for about 1 1/2 people - fast, efficient, but incredibly small. The lighting for those who want to read is pathetic. TV is fine, if complicated to navigate.
It could be a charming beach house if some care went into emptying out stuffed closets and drawers where an amazing amount of detritus turns up - old towels, sheets, electronic equipment - talk about Molly Magee's closet - you are scared to open the doors and drawers. The living room furniture does not beckon one to sit on - old, musty, etc. The house needs new furniture (particularly in the living room and porch which could be wonderful). New pillows much needed, mattresses as well. For the money, it is not a good value.

Owner's Response: This renter was obviously mismatched to our beloved beach house, advertised as casual and away-from-it-all. When she first complained, 4 days into her stay, I was indeed surprised. We never have bad reviews and Casey Key is a very special spot. We responded immediately. Her complaints were numerous and some fixable; we shipped overnight 2 new lamps and a standing lamp, we sent in the housekeeper to re-organize the pots and pans, etc.
We have had the furniture recovered within the past 2 years and constantly update. For example, the kitchen was remodeled in the fall of 2011. We made every effort to preserve the old Florida feel of this house built by our grandfather in 1940, and so it is that the modern dishwasher- a Swedish water saver- is innocuously hidden in the original cabinets, pulls out like a drawer, and is perfectly adequate.
But this renter also threatened to write a bad review unless we gave her back some money. We did not. Therefore, I was not surprised to see she posted a bad review.
This renter did not find the house online. She heard glowing reports about it from the November renters who live in her home town. They have already booked it for February 2013.

Right on private beach. Miles away from public beach. Nestled among private residences. Modern home with all conveniences. Quick response friendly caretakers available to address any possible problem that might arise. On North end right off Blackburn Pt road. Minutes by car to Sarasota. Would definitely stay there again.

Heaven on earth!

Sun, Sand, and Surf - a little piece of heaven on earth! We sat on the screened in porch with our glasses of wine and enjoyed the gorgeous sunsets. Every year there is an improvement - two new bathrooms, and this year new furniture. The setup allows for privacy as there are two bedrooms on one end (with bath) and one on the other (with bath) - great for a this gramma when the kids come down. Nearby are wonderful seafood restaurants and shopping if you can tear yourself away from the beach.

Perfect getaway for our family of five!

We loved staying here on Casey Key. We have 3 little ones (5,3,1) and the house was very kid-friendly, including eye-hook latches at the top of doors to discourage wandering. Very close to the beach - you felt like you had the world to yourself. All the conveniences of stores, restaurants, etc. were just minutes away, including a Wal-Mart, invaluable to parents. The house had plenty of room and all the amenities we needed (with exception of a dishwasher, but who cares? The beach is footsteps away. We managed!!!). Would stay again in a heartbeat.

We had a wonderful week in what I think a beach house should be: comfortable, functional and unpretentious. We found Casey Key to be much less hectic than Siesta Key; the landscaping added to the sense of privacy. On many days, we had the beach to ourselves. Watching the sunsets from the table set up above the beach was excellent. We enjoyed using the sailboat in the Gulf and our kayak in the sound. We'd welcome the opportunity to be repeat renters.
