We really liked the house and thought it was perfect for kids. It is very clean and well maintained. It is close to Bar Harbor, Echo Lake, Southwest Harbor and Acadia National Park making it a great location to stay at. The road noise did get loud during the day however it was really nice to have our own kayaks. The kayaking is great in Somes Sound and we saw porpoise on one of our trips.
Our daughters really enjoyed swimming at Echo Lake Beach everyday which is about a 10 minute drive. I highly recommend Sail Acadia with Captain Lou in Northeast Harbor. Also, Quietside Café in Southwest Harbor is good restaurant for families. Bar Harbor bike rental has good quality bikes and very close to the carriage roads in Acadia. Overall it was one of our best trips.

Our family of four enjoyed this home very much. The house is charming. The kitchen is well stocked, the beds are comfortable, and the view of the water is great. We saw bald eagles and osprey from the window. The location of the house is wonderful. Its about fifteen minutes to most places you want to be. It was so nice staying in the middle of the island. Having access to kayaks was a big benefit as well. We went out in the kayaks and saw harbor seals. The owner was friendly and helpful. We hope to stay again.

If you desire to explore all Mount Desert Island has to offer, this property is centrally located on the island with just a short drive to Acadia. Somesville is one of the pretties towns on the island. The house is charming, and having the kayaks right there on the docks is a treat! We observed Bald Eagles, osprey, mergansers, and a Canada goose family every day, I even heard a loon one night. We wanted a location on the water, away from busy Bar Harbor, yet close enough to drive into town for meals, etc. Excellent meals abound, but two outstanding restaurants were The Top of the Hill (on the road to Southwest Harbor) where we had some of the best prime rib ever, and Jay Dubs in SWH. We ate at Jay Dubs twice, both meals excellent and left feeling completely spoiled. Wendyl (the home owner) is very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area, and obviously proud to share his home with you. This was our first rental using Homeaway; it was a great experience and hope future rentals are as successful.
