A Charming Cottage with Breathtaking Views

Wistful in Wakefield Massachusetts
Review Submitted: August 5, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
I've been home from Ireland for over a week now and can't get this beautiful cottage with its spectacular scenery out of my mind. The cottage is perfect. Everything needed is provided in such a tasteful way. What a treat to start the day on the patio with the azure blue ocean, glorious fuchsia, and stone walls greeting me. The evenings are just as memorable, as are the walks to the beach and nearby cafe with its scrumptious scones and coffee with whipped cream. I will be dreaming about this place for years to come and feel so fortunate that I made this my home for two unforgettable weeks.

The Perfect Ireland Home

We hated to leave, and are already trying to figure out when we can go back. The cottage is very clean, quaint, and in the perfect location. I can't imagine a better view in Ireland. The whole rental process was so smooth, it couldn't have been more perfect. We had two weeks in Ireland, but our minds keep going back to the week we spent here. Loved it!

When can we go back?!

We stayed at Couminole Cottage for 8 nights to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. The cottage is perfect for 2 people and has everything you need to live in comfort, and for us, probably the best part was the inability to connect with work by phone/internet. A TRUE vacation! Between all the materials we received prior to our trip and all the helpful information provided at the cottage, we didn't have any problems whatsoever. Despite the glorious weather we enjoyed throughout our stay, we went through bundles of peat with cozy fires every evening. We cooked fantastic meals and took picnics along on our day trips and even bought a celebratory anniversary cake in Dingle! The morning visits from the local cows always made us smile, and the views are beyond fantastic.

Since our visit was in March, some of the restaurants, shops and attractions weren't yet open for the season. However we always managed to find an interesting place to stop during our daily explorations, always with gracious folks taking good care of us. We had a great time at the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dingle and brought home some wonderful pottery, jewelry and of course a hand-knit sweater from the Aran Islands.

This was our first time visiting the western half of Ireland, and we can't wait to go back for another dose of hospitality and beautiful scenery. We would definitely consider staying at Couminole Cottage again in the future and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends/family. It's just as advertised, you won't be disappointed!

Loved it!

So it may sound a little cliche, but when I first saw the picture of this place all I can say is that it spoke to me. I knew immidiately that this was the place I wanted to stay, and luckily it was available the week I requested.
The cottage itself is perfect. It's clean, quaint, and quiet. The area surrounding the cottage is amazing..the scenery is breathtaking! I just returned home after a fantastic week. Weather was perfect-shorts and flip flops every single day! There is a lot to do in the area, and the cottage itself is stocked with a lot of area information and a lot of books, and a great puzzle that another guest had purchased (Machu Pichu is a tough one!). I relaxed and read 3 books while I was there.
The little lambs in the field next door are adorable. Was nice to wake up, put up the screen in the door, and hear them BAAA'ing. Dingle town is about 15 minutes away. Take a boat from Dun Chaoin pier out to Great Blasket and walk around, highly recommend!! The beach is less than a 10 minute walk down the road (to the left when facing the ocean).
The day of my departure I actually had a lump in my throat when I went outside to take a final look before driving away. It broke my heart to leave. Stay here and you'll find out why...words can't describe how awesome this place is.
The owners were so friendly and helpful, always answering questions via email in a timely matter, and offered so many helpful suggestions. I feel so fortunate that I was able to share in their dream home. I'd stay here again in a heart beat. You should do the same, you won't regret it!

We spent the second week of our honeymoon in this idealic little cottage. We were hoping for somewhere romantic and we found it, not just the cottage but the whole area. The beach, ten minutes walk from the cottage is just beautiful, as is all surrounding scenery - we loved it. The peace and quiet struck a chord and we will most certainly be returning. Thank you for sharing your lovely cottage with us!

Truly a magnificant stay. The cottage was exactly as advertised and I thoroughly enjoyed the week I spent there, split between wandering about the shops in Dingle and gazing at the sea from the clifftops at Couminole Strand nearby. For those seeking time away from it all, this is the place!

Beautiful beyond words

Review Submitted: February 26, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2008
After doing a lot of research on Ireland and reading Rick Steves' guides (highly recommended that you read his book on Ireland), we decided to stay in Dingle. The description and price for Couminole Cottage was exactly what we were looking for.

Communication with the owners was great. They were extremely helpful and promptly answered all of our questions. They provided a very detailed hand drawn map with instructions to find the cottage. Tip: don't start looking until you reach the statue.

Upon arrival we were very excited. The cottage was exactly like it was described. We couldn't believe the views. The best part was no TV or phones. They have a CD player with Irish music on CD.

To cut costs we split eating out and cooking in the cottage. Everything that we needed was in the kitchen. The foods tasted much fresher as well. We really had to explore the town to find the new grocery store.

There is so much to see and do in Dingle, from pre-historic huts, to shopping in the town. Make sure you stop in a pub and talk to the locals. In November we were about the only tourists and we had the tourist sites to ourselves. We visited the Cliffs of Moher the morning that we arrived. We spent most of our time in Dingle. We did do the Ring of Kerry as Rick Steves suggested and we agreed with him that Dingle is much nicer. We spent our last evening at the Rock of Cashel and highly recommend that too.

As a side note about the owners: I had taken my wallet with a considerable amount of US currency in it. Since I was wearing sweat pants most of the time with no back pockets I didn't want to carry it around with me. So, I hid it from site under the mattress and had my wife carry my DL, CC and EU currency. I don't know how, but we both forgot that I had hidden it. After realizing that it was missing, I assumed that I had unconsciously picked it up one day and it had fallen out of my pocket and lost forever. When the owners returned several months later to do a spring cleaning they found it and returned it to me. It is nice to know such honest people.

In summary: If you want to just get away to relax and stay in a beautiful location with ample things to do, this is the place for you. Bring lots of memory for the camera because you will be taking a lot of pictures.
Owner's Response: We very much thank this recent guest for taking the time to write this review.

Virtually all our guests have loved it as they note on the followup comment request we ask them to provide.

We just returned ourselves last night from a fantastic week there. The dollar/euro exchange has also improved and helps Americans so much dining out, shopping, going to the pubs etc

A Little Bit of Heaven

Woodsy Hartford, CT, USA
Review Submitted: November 19, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
The cottage overlooks the beach where "Ryan's Daughter" was filmed and is within walking distance. It is surrounded by farms, stone walls, and breathtaking scenery. It is very modern inside with a dishwasher, washer and dryer--all the conveniences of home. In spite of all this, it maintains a rustic charm. The town of Dingle itself is nearby and has grocery stores, souvenir shops, agencies at which one can arrange boat tours of the Blasket Islands, and high-quality restaurants. The pace of life is calm and unhurried. Everyone is friendly and helpful/

Charming Cottage By the Sea

Violist Dallas, TX
Review Submitted: March 18, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
If you want to truly get away from it all, this cottage is the place for you! With stunning scenery and no T.V., internet, or phone service you can kick back, build a fire and relax. We brought many books and had plenty of time to read them. The cottage was spotless when we arrived, and the owner sent along many helpful instructions about the area, getting around, restaurants, supermarkets, etc to us before we arrived. We were able to save quite a bit of money by paying for the rental in U.S. dollars. I love to cook and the well equipped kitchen met our every culinary need. Also, the washer and dryer really came in handy. If you are looking to eat every meal out, this may not be the place to stay, as the nearest pub is several miles away and may be closed for the off-season. Radiant heating under the floor kept the place nice and cozy, the most comfortable we've ever been in anyplace we've stayed on our many trips to Ireland. We will definitaly be back, hopefully sooner than later.

It's Almost All Been Said

So as not to be redundant, I agree with all of the previous reviews. What I would like to add is that nothing prepared us for just how significant an experience it was. We were in the midst of history, beauty, charm, and peace. We decided not to do long side trips (Ring of Kerry) but to settle in and enjoy. Staying in Couminole Cottage was the highlight of our trip to Ireland. What was particularly helpful was the owner's step by step process of orienting us to the experience with numerous communications that answered all our questions before we needed to ask. We felt like 'family' before we had even arrived. Don't hesitate to book your dream vacation here ASAP.
