This home offered us the chance to go back in time to enjoy life before gaming systems, TV, internet and cell phones. We read books, enjoyed watching the lobstermen from our back porch, swam, explored tidepools and watched the fireflies.

Our children experienced a vacation where time slowed down -- and they found a way to make their own fun. At the same time, they came to know each other, and their grandparents in a whole new way.


Everything about this vacation was perfect -- and well described by the owners. We felt blessed to stay in this historical home and look forward to staying there for many years to come!

My sister, best friend and I stayed at Dehart cottage on Bailey Island Sept. 14 - 18 2009. We enjoyed our stay. The most spectacular ocean view we have ever seen. It doesn't get any better for the surf lover than the front porch of this antique cottage and the open windows with the sound of the waves at night. I was moved to tears by the beauty of the sunrise from master bedroom. Weather beautiful, but cool, for us "Alabama girls". Once in a lifetime trip we all dreamed of taking. We packed a lot into this trip...saw six lighthouses...were awestruck at the beauty of Pemaquid Point...also visited Boothbay Harbor, Kennebunkport, Cape Neddick....enjoyed little cafe in Brunswick (actually met a retired MD who taught at UAB medical school in Birmingham, Al). Some of our best memories were the time spent on Bailey Island. Thanks for sharing your home with us. Clean Quiet, and Dark! Would recommend for those wanting a trip back in time. You could almost feel the memories and hear the laughter of days gone by. Every day was truely a "great day on Bailey Island"!

Just back from a week at this fantastic house. We couldn't have asked for more. Sitting on the front porch with our morning coffee, watching the lobstermen working right in front of you, listening to the waves at night...It was wonderful. The house has everything you could want and is suitable for families, singles, or the silver haired set. I could feel the years worth of stress start to drain away as soon as I pulled into the driveway. Five of us used it as a Girls Getaway.

Our best vacation yet! We loved relaxing at the cottage, having coffee on the porch above the ocean, falling asleep in the cozy bedroom upstairs to the sound of the waves, sitting by the fireplace at night with classical music on the radio combined wtih the sound of the surf. We explored Land's End and the Giant Stairs on Bailey Island, explored the tidepools off the cottage at low tide, drove to beautiful Pemaquid Point Lighthouse up the coast a bit, and drove to Camden to hike and shop, as well as sightsee in the quaint towns along the way. There is so much to do and see in the area - we'll have to come back for one of the boat trips. We made all our evening meals at the cottage as well as breakfast, and got picnic food at Shaw's Grocery or Wild Oats Bakery and Cafe in Brunswick (highly recommended). The cottage has about everything you would need, from binoculars to a hair dryer, radio and weather radio, phone (local calls only), coffee maker and filters and dishes for six, plenty of cooking pots, a washer and dryer, and books about the island. It is decorated with old sailing photos, photos of some of the orignal family members who built the cottage, and paintings of local scenes. We will be back!

Exactly what a vacaation cottage should be. No TV is great. Neat and tidy, but felt homey.

Everything was spotless and we had everything we needed--even to the wildflowers on the table. Loved reading the history of the house and the books about the island.

The mattresss were grand!

We all feel so at home here. It is so snug and cozy inside even though hurricane Isabelle is blowing and raining outside. We were here on a seven day rug hooker's retreat and your cottage was just perfect for us. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.
