Harvest moon over Szentbekkalla
The property is a five minute walk to the village centre of Szentbekkalla with a pergola, stone grill, and terraces. The house has an open floor plan, 140 sq. meters, sleeps six comfortably, air- conditioned downstairs, wood stove, heat pump, wi-fi, satellite TV, linens and towels are included. There is a separate wine cellar. The location is between Badascony and Tapolca in the center of the Kal Basin. Family friendly, pets considered.
We built this house a few years ago next to the old family estate that Balint's family was able to reclaim in the 1980's. We live in the U.S. but spend our summers in Hungary. Six years ago we bought a vineyard on the hill across from our house and can now share Lavender House with others. We age our wines in the old family cellar, a property adjacent to our house. We are both artists and film-makers in retirement.
This place is close to Balint's heart. He served as an altar boy for the priest who owned the land that the house rests upon. His father is buried in the cemetery next to the village church and just adjacent to the Birkas estate. The view is stunning. The local wine is superb. The people are friendly.
Lavender House is a traditional Hungarian country house on the exterior, but the interior is anything but. The house is filled with light and air. The proximity to the village and the surrounding countryside is excellent. Large windows, access to the out-of-doors, and ease of living are all conducive to a restful break from the modern world.
