Photos and Description of the Castine vacation cabin rental
2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps a family with 2 children comfortably.

The Tides Inn is a cozy A-frame cottage on a private beach overlooking Penobscot Bay, just eight miles from downtown Castine. Relax on the private deck and view stunning sunsets or fall asleep to the rhythm of the waves. Spot seals, osprey, eagles, porpoise, and more. The view includes Camden Hills, Sandy Point, Hersey Retreat, Isleboro, and Penobscot Bay.

We’re located across from Fort Point State Park and Fort Point Lighthouse. Just seven miles away, historic Castine is a charming waterside town with restaurants and shops. Drive to nearby Acadia National Park, Blue Hill, Ellsworth, and a number of other popular destinations for outdoor activities, shopping, or dining.

Ideal for a family with two children or a romantic getaway, this rustic retreat has a fully supplied kitchen, a small bathroom, and a living room with sofa bed.

We love animals but regretfully cannot accommodate pets. The cottage is smoke-free but guests are welcome to smoke outside.

Great Romantic Getaway

One week in the A-Frame felt like a month away from the hustle and bustle of life! Beautiful sunsets over the bay, beachcombing, relaxing on the deck, grilling, warm fire in the woodstove. Well-stocked kitchen gear made eating in a joy. Jeff and Nancy our hosts were very helpful and accomodating. It is nicely off the beaten path, but close enough to Bar Harbor, Castine, Camden, etc. to make exploring fun.

Great Proximity to the Water

We just spent a wonderful week in the A-frame. While it's certainly cozy for a family of four, the easy access to the water and the big views from the deck make this place a gem. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and the location is ideal: Acadia is only an hour away, and we also spent a lot of time exploring Castine, Deer Isle, and the Blue Hill area. When not off exploring, we spent hours walking the beach that's just steps away from the cottage, and the owners provide kayaks, which we used every day. My kids (ages 5 and 12) loved the place, and even on the day it was rainy, we enjoyed playing board games inside with the lovely view of the water. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

Exquisite spot

My husband and I loved this place! The cabin is a beautifully constructed, very steep A-Frame perched right at the edge of the Penobscot bay. Although the owners Jeff and Nancy are right next door you feel as though you have complete privacy. They were a perfect blend of helpful when we needed advice and hands off when we didn't. The deck, outdoor shower, views of the bay, and antique woodstove were some of our favorite features. Inside we had everything we needed to cook every day and sleep comfortably at night. Also, the driving throughout the Blue Hill peninsula is sublime, it felt like Scotland with lobsters! We think this place is absolutely perfect!!!

wonderful Columbus Day weekend

My husband, 16-year old son and myself stayed at the A-frame cottage over Columbus Day weekend while visiting our oldest son who attends Maine Maritime Academy. What a wonderful weekend...weather was gorgeous, and though while appearing on the small side, the A-frame served all our needs. There is a futon in living area that was very comfortable for our oldest. The small kitchen had everything necessary to prepare all our meals. There's a gas grill on the deck overlooking Penobscot Bay, and you are literally steps away from the water. The evenings were cool, but between the wood stove and the gas heater, we were quite cozy. There is a TV and DVD player, but no cable service. I would definetly recommend this cottage to a family with young children, and families with teenagers that don't mind "sacking out" on a futon. Jeff and Nancy were terrific. We plan on staying at the A-frame again.

For couples or small families, this is the perfect getaway. Sunsets on the deck, right on the beach, kayaks provided and quirky charm. Jeff and Nancy live right next door and gave us lots of tips that made our stay more enjoyable.

We can't say enough of about this charming cottage. Our children loved playing on the beach for hours and it is in an ideal location for day trips to Bar Harbor,Camden/Rockland area, and Bangor. The cottage is well kept and has a large deck which is perfect for watching the sunset over the bay. The owners were incredibly helpful and pleasant. We would stay here again and again.

As we open up the cottage for another year, we wanted to thank each and every one of our guests who took time to give us feedback, both here and personally. We have incorporated virtually every comment in our plans: we have new steps to upstairs, have added a wall and door between the rooms upstairs, and have even added the cheese grater and teapot. We thought of enlarging the space, but zoning and our concern of loosing the cozy feel limit us.Thank-you all again.Jeff & Nancy

What a beautiful place to visit!! We stayed in this lovely cottage for a week and we will definitely be back again. The view is magnificent, the beach is merely steps away, and the owners (Jeff and Nancy) are extremely pleasant. I would live here year-round if I could!! The cottage is romantic, quaint, and a great escape from the city. Nearby activities include hikes, biking, swimming (though the water is a bit cold!), sailing, kayaking, etc. A wonderful place to spend a week away from everything. Highly recommended.

Great location and everything about the small A-frame was special! Landlords were very friendly and use of kayaks was a huge plus for us to be able to get out on the water so easily. We hope to return someday.
