poor and disappointed stay
This home, although the screened in porch and walkway to the beach are great, the quality of the home was not good!! There were stains, evidence of moisture/possible mold, as well as a musty/mildew smell in basement and under kitchen cabinet, the beds have no support, slant, and sag. The pillows are old & dirty, roaches in the house, slow draining tubs, and no response from maintenance- reported broken door handle that was never fixed while we stayed (leaving potential risk to tenants as well as owners property from not being able to be locked). Clearly there isn't owner visitation to the house or good standards set for making their tenants safe and healthy! Very, very disappointed! Owner contacted and given this information.
Owner's Response: This is very disappointing, as the owner ... and the ONLY "poor" one for the whole spring and summer season. The tenant gave me the information, but her call was weeks AFTER her stay. If only I had gotten the complaints while they were with us, I would have addressed them personally. I usually go out every Saturday during the summer season to oversee everything . I had not done this the week they arrived or 2 weeks prior. I asked the cleaning crew if all was ok, and they said yes.
No excuses, except my father was critically ill, in hospital for 10 days, and died in Hospice 4 days later.... prior to and during the responder's week at our home.
The moisture/ mildew (not mold) issue came from condensation from the air-conditioning being turned down to 62 degrees (probably all week prior, but for sure when the cleaners arrived the Saturday this family started their week. There were 4 areas on the 1st floor ceiling (approx. 6 inches X 2 feet) moist and grey colored, all due to the AC ductwork "sweating" inside the ceiling. It should have been cleaned with bleach and water, and the cleaner did not do this, unfortunately. This problem began this summer and can only be remedied by removing the ceiling, replacing ductwork, and new ceiling installed.... none of which can be done while the house is rented every week. It will be remedied this fall, when we have more than 3 days between renters. In the meantime, I am there every Saturday, assuring it is cleaned appropriately with bleach.
I am sorry if our beds are not firm enough. Our family of 14 people stayed in the house for 2 weeks in June, and NOONE had a problem with the beds. I slept in the Master Bedroom,( this was the only bed they thought was good).
Roaches? I am sorry because we have Terminix under contract for just this. My staff said neither excessive roaches, nor slow draining tubs were reported. The broken door handle was reported, but never as a safety issue. We DID NOT KNOW that the lock was affected, just the handle. According to my property manager, the renter did not seem upset about the handle, saying "they would just leave it on the mantle nearby."
I hate that our first time renters were so displeased. I offered them a free week, off season, with my guarantee of issues resolved.
Their feedback is helpful. NOW, MY PERSONAL CELL PHONE NUMBER IS ON THE
REFRIGERATOR. This won't happen again, but I am sorry we disappointed this family.
