Bad Weekend - Good Rental!

Angel_in_KY Highland Heights, KY USA
Review Submitted: October 6, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
This beautiful property made a long weekend with my in-laws so much more bearable! We rented a boat from the Herrington Lake Marina and spent some time on the lake (though it was really a bit windy that day, not great boating weather). We did some fishing and didn't have much luck but you know what they say "A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work!" and with views like these it's even more true. My in-laws visited the nearby Wild Turkey Distillery and seemed to enjoy it.

We did a lot of cooking over the course of the weekend as we did not go 'out' for any meals. We had everything we needed for cooking except for a cheese grater (if it was there we sure couldn't find it). Overall though I would say that the kitchen is exceptionally well equipped compared to other rentals I have had.

The surroundings were peaceful and quiet. There is very little if any traffic coming down to this end of the road and we never heard a peep from the neighbors all weekend except for the one directly next door who is more than glad to help out if you need anything. The neighbor's dog, Bruiser, is a friendly guy and will probably stop over to visit you at some point =)

The house is exactly as described in the advertisement. As for the rocks mentioned in many reviews which need to be crossed to get to the dock, my father has one paralyzed leg and wears a brace on that leg and he was able to negotiate the rock area. I think any able bodied person won't have too much trouble crossing them.

Something I would point out that others may not realize is that the photo of the outdoor table and chairs that appears to be next to the bank of the lake is actually quite a bit above it with a fairly sheer rock face at the lakeside in this area. If you actually want to walk to the edge of the water you can do that at the dock or boat ramp just down the hill. I don't think that the owners are being deceptive with that photo, just that it isn't exactly what it looks like because a 2d image can't really tell the whole story sometimes!

We look forward to renting Haddix Point Hideaway in the future when we stay in this area!
Owner's Response: Good idea! We will have a chesse grater there for your next visit.

We have stayed at this home 5 years now. We LOVE it.
If you're looking for a lake get away you found it.
It has all you need. The rooms are spacious for relaxing (we have a family of 10) The washer & dryer are a PLUS especially with lake laundry ;)
The porch is great for relaxing.

For the comments about the Dock ..yes there are rock you have to cross and its not so easy when you have big coolers but it is very manageable my 4YO has not had any trouble since she was 9M old

Former owners of a Lake Cottage on Herrington

Review Submitted: July 29, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We have rented Haddix Point for a week in July the last two years and found it to be everything as adverstied. For us, former cottage owners on Lake Herrington, it is a prime spot on the lake. Relaxing in the porch swing which provides a beathtaking view of the lake. The house is in great shape, clean, and well decorated. It is very convinent to have the use of the boat ramp and dock on the property. We have enjoyed our stays and could recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from it all. Hugh is very accomadating and has local people available to help if a problem is encountered. Our 2010 date is already booked.

Our Vacation at Haddix Point

Vacation at the Lake Brownsburg, Indiana
Review Submitted: July 16, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We were so glad to see that Haddix Point was once again available for vacationing. Our family has spent 5 wonderful vacations there and we look forward to it all year. Our kids, 17 and 21 when we started, enjoy it as much as we do. This year the lake was a little cooler than usual, but still really nice. We caught a big variety of fish this year including a 10 pound carp and 4 pound catfish. We have gotten my husband's family hooked on going and are now working on my side too.
We hope to be able to spend many more vacations at Haddix Point. 2008 was a miserable year when we did not get to go and we hope it never happens again.

We are grateful that we found Haddix Point Hideaway on the internet. What a beautiful place to spend the weedend with friends. The house is perfect, with everything you need at your fingertips. The porch with the view of the lake is breathtaking. How we enjoyed sitting out there early in the morning having our coffee, listening to the sounds of nature, watching the boats and of course the cows. It was so relaxing that we stayed there all day Saturday sitting on the porch playing cards instead of going to see the surrounding areas, since we had went to Shaker Village on Friday.
This is the first time we found the descriptions, amenities and location of a vacation place to be everything it said it would be. The caretaker was very helpful as were the neighbors. We had such a great time, of course we are planning on going back, maybe this time with our hubbies. We definitely would recommend this as the place to go for a great time.

Family weekend getaway

K&G family Bay City MI
Review Submitted: March 5, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2008
We had a wonderful time during our stay. We met our daughter and son-in-law that had recently moved to Ky from MI and we also brought my mother-in-law. We needed room for 7 of us to stay and this property was perfect. We enjoyed all the colors of fall and a beautiful sunny days. We did not get a chance to go into the water it was much to cool. Normally we camp in our 5th wheel but this was a nice alternative for the short trip we made. We will consider this property again if it is available during our next visit.
The owners thought of almost everything that you would need. We would have liked a griddle for pancakes but we adjusted. Also we didn't think to bring kleenex that would have been nice. The beds were a bit lumpy according to MIL and daughter and son-in-law ours was ok. Our teenage boys didn't complain.
The owners were fantastic to work with and gave us numbers for local people if we needed something very quickly. We did not need them but it was nice to know they were available. The neighbors dog was very friendly and welcomed us. We used the outdoor grills for most of our meals. We would definately recommed this property to friends and will return if the opportunity arises.
Owner's Response: Thanks for the review G.O. and for your input. We will have a griddle and Kleenex there for your next stay. We are also looking at replacing one or two of the mattress/box springs before the start of this season.

Summer 2008

summer fun 2008 Nicholasville Ky
Review Submitted: March 3, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
I absolutely love everything with the exception of the ramp getting to the Dock. Very Dangerous. It really takes some calculating to get to the dock with minimal damage. On occassion we have the grandchildren visit during our stay and this presents problems with them. Other than that we always have a great time and love the cozy house. The back porch is to die for and we enjoy it very much. If you get your coffee and get on the porch early enough in the morning you can see the cows and calves on the point across from the house watering. Anyway, we are looking at some dates in summer 2009 to find time to visit your home again. Look forward to it and will be checking out your calendar.
Owner's Response: There are rocks to negotiate to get to the dock and late in the summer when the lake level is down there are more. But getting to the dock is certanily doable without injury. The boat ramp however, is sloped concrete that always allows easy access in and out of the water and seems to be a more popular place for guest to swim.

Review Submitted: March 3, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2008
We had a great time at Haddix Point Hideaway. Every year it is a challenge to find a location that is close to home, has enough sleeping space for 8-10 women, is affordable and nice. Haddix Point Hideaway fit the bill on all levels. It was clean and spacious. All appliances were clean and in good working order. There was plenty of room to eat meals together in the kitchen and play games at night. We were especially glad to find that long distance calls were free since our cell phones did not get reception. Since the weather was pretty cool, we did not take advantage of the lake but it was beautiful to look at, anyway! We decided to drive to Louisville one evening to attend a play at one of the local theaters. It was well worth the drive! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Haddix Point Hideaway and would recommend it to our friends.

Our stay here was wonderful! The house had plenty of space (although only one bathroom). The area around the house was beautiful for walking (all along the water). The dock was excellent for swimming and boating. Overall, we loved our quiet family vacation! The porch swing was a big attraction for me. I could sit there for hours looking at the lake and listening to the wildlife. Also, there's a nearby farm and you can occasionally see the cows across the lake and hear their moos. It was so peaceful; no fighting long lines or crowds. A really nice escape with beautiful views and lots of privacy.
