A Perfect Stay

My family and I (wife and three-year-old son) made sudden plans for a long weekend, and this cabin was a perfect fit. Some words that describe our experience: peaceful, private, relaxing, an outdoor "playground." My son and I caught a range of freshwater fish, our dog enjoyed swimming and running free, and my wife found the whole experience to be a "retreat." The owner could not be more helpful and nice in regards to your desires and enjoyment.
As many other people have written, "this is place is perfect." This is not an understatement, if you is looking for a lake view, a cabin, and fun activities in the woods.
I hope all of you enjoy it, as much as we did! Thanks!

We were so lucky to stay in this lovely cabin during the Brimfield Antique Show in July. Warm welcome from Susan as we arrived. She was super nice and helpful throughout our stay. The lake was so beautiful. We, a couple and a friend, enjoyed swimming, kayaking, sun bathing, etc. It was magically relaxing environment such as gentle sun light through trees, flower garden, bird's singing, BBQ, campfire. We said to ourselves that we'll come back here! Please experience!!

Amazing Time

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!!! I can not full describe what a pleasurable week we just enjoyed at this cottage. The cottage is a charming log cabin with a nice wooden interior. The cabin was clean, and had all the comforts of home with a new large refrigerator, a modern gas stove with oven, microwave, coffee maker. When we entered the cabin there were fresh cut flowers in a vase and a welcome bottle of wine on the wooden table. What a wonderful first impression.
The cabin is on hillside that has a commanding view of the lake. The two docks at waters edge are large and I enjoyed much of my time at the cottage fishing from these docks. A short way from the larger dock is a large wooden deck with chairs and a lounge chair. It was perfectly placed since my wife likes sun and I like shade and we were both able to sit on it while reading outside and viewing both boats and birds as they passed by.
The dock to the right has a bench at the end that was perfect for fishing at dusk.
I haven’t fished in years but once I started it was so much fun I ran out of bait 3 times… needless to say the fish were biting. I not sure if I caught Jasper, the legendry 5 pound large mouth bass; my wife joked the one I caught should be called Jonah … it was a really nice catch. FYI Sutton Falls Campground nearby had the best night crawlers (large and very much alive).
The lake was quite during the week and the cabin rental included the use of the two kayaks and the two canoes on the property. My wife and I ventured out on the lake a few times. We enjoyed the nice quiet paddling and a lot of wonderful scenery.
We also took advantage of the large fire pit with a nice wood supply near the waters edge. While watching the fire we admired the fire flys, of which this city dweller has not seen in years.
Over all if your intention is to step back and relax you can do no better than spend time at Hawks Hollow . Sue the owner and her faithful companion Zoey, a black lab mix, made sure that our stay was relaxing and memorable. 6 Stars!!!!

Piece of Heaven

This 1950s cabin made for the perfect getaway for my wife Deb and I. We were looking for a place close to home, and our expectations were more than fulfilled on locating the Hawk Hollow Cabin. We at times have traveled 4-6 hrs to cottage, but found this piece of heaven in our backyard (20 minutes from home). Everything needed for our stay was there for our weeks stay as promised, and though very private and away from it all, you are close by to Providence, Sturbridge, and Worcester. We preferred to just hang out on the deck relaxing and reading with the beautiful water frontage to take in. This is a great spot to enjoy water sports with the 2 docks and private frontage. The fishing was great and I never went out without catching a good size bass or 2. We are looking forward to a return visit soon and would like to express our thanks to Sue and Zoey for welcoming us to their Heavenly Hollow!

The Cabin At Hawk Hollow, Douglas, MA

My wife and I flew into Hartford, Connecticut in the fall from the upper midwest on a windy and rainy evening. We rented a car there and drove into Massachusetts, arriving at the cabin about 8 p.m. When we got there, we found that the owners had a warm fire going for us in the easy to use woodstove, a pleasant welcome indeed.

This is one of those beautiful, one of a kind hideaways that one dreams of finding. It is exactly what a cabin on a New England lake in autumn should be, wind rustling through the great oaks and butternut trees all around, and a gorgeous vista looking out onto the lake.

The cabin is off the beaten path enough to give one a sense of solitude and respite, but close enough to markets, restaurants and stores to find any amenities that you might need while there. If you are inclined to sightsee and visit historical places, there is plenty to see within a short drive, dating back to early Colonial times.

We found the cabin to be accurately portrayed, rustic, clean and casually comfortable. The owners, who live on the property, were consummate hosts, never intrusive but attentive and helpful when the need arose.

We would recommend this property to anyone who wants to get away from the madding crowd and complexities of life. It is a place where time slows down and you can simply enjoy every moment of elegant simplicity and peace.

Wonderful days at a beautiful lake

The cabin is very cosy and clean and has everything you need to feel at home quickly. It is located right at a beautiful lake, so we had a wonderful time swimming and kayaking with our five-year-old son. When we came there in September it was really peaceful and quite at the lake and we enjoyed living so close to nature. Squirrels and chipmunks are the only neighbours you see every day! We even saw a humming bird once. The beginning of the Indian summer was really impressing. Sue and Gene are the friendliest hosts you can imagine! The cabin is close to Old Sturbridge Village and driving into Boston takes less than an hour. Shopping malls are also close, so if you need a change there is enough to do!

Small in size, big on location, view and relaxing

The cabin is small but comfortable and clean. The bedrooms are very small. AC was available which was great for the hot afternoons. The location, view and atmosphere was the best if you want a quiet place to relax and enjoy the natures beauty. I spent a lot of time on a deck by the water. A little shady making it perfect for reading, napping and enjoying the beauty of the lake. We enjoyed kayaking. My son kayaked the perimeter of the whole lake for a 45-60 min of exercise. Great place before Memorial Day and the lake was quiet.

fall getaway

My husband and I have stayed at Hawk Hollow three times now - once with the kids and twice on our own. I have told many people that it's the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. (Even with the kids!) As soon as I get by the lake I feel my stress level drop a couple of notches. If you like to fish, there's plenty of bass, perch and blue gill. If you like sight seeing, you're not too far from Salem or Boston in MA or Providence and Newport in RI. We ate at Michael's in the next town over and found both the service and the food to be excellent. (And very reasonable.) You couldn't ask for better hosts than Gene and Susan (and their official greeter, Zoe). We plan on going back a fourth time.

A week of relaxation Aug. 2009

We were looking for a quiet spot that would allow us to enjoy our four legged family members. This is the perfect spot to frolic, swim, fish, boat and relax with our canine companions. The cabin was spotless, comfortable and perfect for summer fun. Sue & Gene are perfect hosts and were very friendly. We were so happy they allowed our two labs. This was the reason we rented and then when we experienced the great week we decided that this would become an annual event. The lake was enjoyed by all. If you are looking for a quiet, secluded spot to reconnect with the family, Hawk Hollow is the place.

Our family of 4 spent one week at "Hawk Hollow" in August 2002. We loved the wooded surroundings and peaceful setting. The log cabin is kept very clean. The owners and their pets are the dearest people. Our lazy days were spent reading, cooling off in the lake, trying our luck at fishing and finding ourselves dreaming about living like this the rest of our lives...
