We have rented Stan's cabin for 2 years in a row. It is on the water and the paddling is great. Also good area for biking. The island is beautiful and locals are very used to tourists but not over them/us, and are quite friendly. Not a remote and rustic get-a-way, more of an "urban influences meet New England coast rural sensibilities".

This is our entry in Stan's guest log, and speaks best to our experiences at DRWC:
Another glorious week in your wonderful cottage! This, our second stay, felt like coming home. We spent less time going out and exploring the island, and more time just hanging out together here. That said, we did make it to Haystack for the studio walk-throughs, where we also happened to watch a pod of dolphins slowly making their way across Western Cove. Visited the local galleries, ate at the Whale's Rib, bought zucchini bread across the street - all by foot, which we love. Also went into Stonington by way of the farmer's market. Thank you Stan for your attentiveness and your relaxed wit. And thank you for welcoming us into this wonderful little haven.

Owner's Response: Hi, I am the property owner and would like to clarify who would be most comfortable in The Dow Road Waterfront cottage. Couples of any age are ideal. One or two children can be accommodated but I would not recommend teenagers. It is definitely a romantic getaway,
perfect for Honeymoons ( mention for discounted rate).
I also think a car is required unless you plan to arrive and leave by kayak. Stan

Dow Waterfront Cottaage is a very special retreat. One feels emersed in nature with it's birds, rocks and shifting tides, yet easily intouch with cultur, good company and good food. Every type of stimulation from tennis, to hiking, to arts and crafts is available, but for those who prefer to curl up with a stack of good books, the peace and quiet, seclusion and light are sublime! The cottage itself is clean and efficient as well as charming, The kitchen and bath well stocked and there is always a welcoming treat in the fridge!

Celebrated our 25th wedding anniversity by treating ourslevesto a week in Maine, and what a treat it was! Thisjournal help direct us to the places to go and see. The first thing noticed at the cabin is the reading from Corinthians in the bathroom, it is the very reading we chose fore our wedding, July 21,1979. The furnishings are charmingly eclectic, I LOVE the big trunk.

I have been coming to Maine for several years now( and one day hope to stay for good) but have rarely been fortunate enough to findsuch a special place to spend much neededtime relaxing and reflecting. The quiet, solitude, privacy, tranquility, and beauty here are a rarity in a world gone just a little crazy, so it is with gratitude and appreciation that we thank you, Stan, for allowing us to be a partof it...if only for such a short time. 8/9/03

8/16/03We had a wonderful week! Our first time here with our daughter, Carly. She and our yellow lab, Astro, (his 5th year here) enjoyed swimming, hiking, and hanging out. Carly even came with us to the Pilgrim's Inn!...We were lucky, we understand, to have some beautiful weather. And we got terrific lobsters from Sherman twice - highly recommended!Thank you again, Stan.

June 20 - July 12, 2003What a wonderful place to exerience the tide first hand. By the second week, I think we learned how to plan our activities by the tide. This is the best kayaking I've experienced with so many islands, rock formations, seals, eagles, and horbor porpoises. It will be hard to kayak in Wisconsin now and not expect to see seals. :-)...

10-04-03We enjoyed your lovely cottage tremendously. On clearn evenings the star-studded sky was breathtaking. Sherman was a good sport - I think we have devastated the lobster population. Your Deer Isle home served as a good base as we bushwacked our way through the Maine woods in search of our own property.Thank you for a wonderful and relaxing week.
