Fabulous France

For our latest vacation we travelled from the US to stay in the heart of Normandy and were not disappointed with either the country or the location we chose to stay.

Cherry Tree Cottages was a perfect location from which to explore Normandy and the history of the WWII. So many places to visit from Aramanché, to Pegasus Bridge, to Honfleur and Rouen.

The cottages are in a small village in the heart of the French countryside close to the Seine. They were clean and kitted out with all you need. The gardens are terrific and we were able to just relax and enjoy the odd beer or two. The owners, Des and Sheila were welcoming and a great source of information.

You just have to remember France is not a 24/7 country - we got caught out when the grocery stores were not open on Sunday!!

Would we go again - definitely, would we recommend - absolutely!!!

Very convenient to sightsee Normandy region, WW II sites. Also close to Honfleur and Etretat for awesome scenery. Watching ships pass under the Normandy Bridge heading up the Seine River to Rouen was special, just a short walk. Lots of thatched homes in the village so good walking. Big supermarket about 6 miles away. Hosts are English so no language problems, plus most of others guests speak English. Hosts were charming and very helpful. Flat was tastefully decorated, kitchen fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, utensils. Clean indeed.

The property is exactly as described. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly and go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. The area is rural although on the edge of a small village. You can walk to the River and it is within easy reach of Honfleur which is a beautiful old town and well worth at least one visit. The owners helped us choose a nice restaurant for dinner one night (which you would never find on your own) and the dinner was excellent. I would highly recommend a stay in this area and would not hesitate to recommend that you stay at this property.

Happy Holidaying in Honfleur

Having been to a number of different regions of France we were certainly not disapointed with Normandy and especially not Honfleur. It is a picture postcard traditional old French seaside town with cobbled streets, and a host of great restaurants overlooking the harbour. On Wednesday we had a lovely evening. We were serenaded by a couple of street entertainers whilst havng a very good meal and then walked off 'the over indulgence' wondering around the street market which went on until about 10.30.
There is a beach at Honfleur which is only a short drive from the cottage or only a little further away Trouville and Deuville are lovely seaside towns. We spent many an afternoon during our 2 weeks on various nice sandy beaches along this coastline. We spent a day a little further afield at Bayeux which we really enjoyed. We even got adventurous on one day and went to Disneyland Paris. Whilst this was a full and quite tiring day, it is very accesible as Honfleur is the closest coastline to Paris (Approx 2 hr 30 min).
As a family with young children we found Cherry Tree Cottages to be the perfect place to stay. The cottages are exceptionally clean, well laid out and with all the faclities you need. Our cottage had a dishwasher (essential when you would otherwise be the designated washer upper) there was also a coffee maker in the kitchen which along with the wine glasses and BBQ was very well utilised. Our cottage didn't have a washing machine however we did have access to a washing machine and adjacent area for hanging out your 'towels and swimsuits' which we made use of.
There is a huge very well maintained garden which is child friendly (we have a very inquisitive and energetic 2 year old) and very pleasant surroundings to relax with a glass or two of the rouge stuff!
Des & Sheila (Owners) are always around and happy to help, advise or just chat, though are not in the slightest intrusive. Our little 2 year old took to them straight away and when he disappeared for a while he would always be found helping Des doing a job in the garden or babbling to Sheila in their cottage.
In summary this is an area of France that we shall definitely be revisiting as there was so much that we didn't do, and when we return we shall definitely be staying at Cherry Tree Cottages.
