Ledgewood by the Sea is a sunny, charming, comfortable, brick Cape in a quiet setting on the shore of Frenchman's Bay, five minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. You will enjoy beautiful panoramic ocean and mountain views from the terrace and deck as well as the living room, family room, dining area, the master bedroom, and one of the guest bedrooms. Have your morning coffee on our terrace and watch the lobstermen haul their traps in the bay. On sunny evenings enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace while kayakers and sailors go by. Use our private steps to the beach to collect seaglass at low tide.
Ledgewood is tastefully furnished to the highest standard and thoughtfully equipped to help make your stay in Maine memorable. We have three-plus bedrooms (one with queen, one with double, one with twins, and an additional twin in a small sitting room).
Ledgewood by the Sea is our second home. It was totally renovated in 2001-2002 to add modern amenities, including a new kitchen, two new baths, and a dining area with floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as all the basics (wiring, plumbing, roof, etc.) yet retain its original charm. New lawns and lovely gardens were added in 2003-2004. A new paved driveway was completed in 2005.
We invite you to become part of the Ledgewood family of guests with whom we have shared the magic of our special house by the sea on beautiful Mount Desert Island.
Visit the island's intimate, specialty museums like the Abbe (celebrating Native American culture) and the Gilley (honoring a local bird carver), take the mail boat (and a picnic lunch) to the Cranberry Islands for a pleasant stroll around another coastal treasure, bundle up for a whale-watching cruise, relax on a sunset cruise on the three-masted Margaret Todd, and have fun listening to the bi-weekly band concerts on the village green.
Of course, there are great restaurants, casual and fine, to enjoy a lobster dinner, and the Jordan Pond House lawn for popovers and lemonade is not to be missed!
For those who prefer relaxing 'at home' (or recovering from all the outdoor activities), we provide a varied selection of videos, games and puzzles, and a great book collection for your enjoyment.

Join the increasing number of visitors who have discovered how special Mount Desert Island is in September and October, when the summer crowds have dispersed. The fall weather on the island can be spectacular and the fall scenery enhances the hiking and walking trails. The restaurants and shops remain open and welcoming. At Ledgewood by the Sea, our large banks of blue and white hydrangeas and other flowering plants remain at their peak well into October. On crisp fall evenings our two woodburning fireplaces provide a cozy setting for reading and relaxing with a cup of tea or a glass of wine.
