Terrible Experience

We stayed at Denise’s unit for two weeks in July 2008.
When we found this townhouse, we had high hopes for this place, but our experience was horrible.
When we arrived, the place was so filthy that we, 4 adults, spent 2 hours cleaning every corner of this place: filthy kitchen, dirty bathrooms, spider webs in every room, food particles on the floor, dirty grill without gas etc. Even the dryer was not functioning properly because the filter was clogged. The sofa was dirty and broken. However, nothing we could do with the terrible smell, smell from refrigerator, smell from carpet, restrooms, every room, smell everywhere and all the time.
We let it go and just said we weren't going to let it ruin our vacation. We have never complained to the owner about anything. Instead, to be grateful for cleaning she claimed she found the dirty toilet and did not return our security deposit.
A vacation should be something you don't want to end but not this time.
Owner's Response: This was indeed a terrible situation for myself to have dealt with. In reality, this was not how the renter found the house but how it was left and he was not pleased that I refused to return his security deposit. He did call me when the gas ran out on the BBQ to confirm that I would refund for the gas. I kept this as a separate issue and did reemburse these fees.
This is the first renter in a very long time that did not receive his security deposit and I hope the last one that I will have to deal with for quite some time to come.
