Lovely water-view, town vacation rental

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I, and our teenage son, had a great vacation in this house. We already knew Rockland, and enjoyed being able to walk to the city center, with all its restaurants, shops, and the Farnsworth Museum. We like Amalfi's for dinner, and LuLu's on Oak street for ice-cream. We drove down to Port Clyde for a wonderful sea kayak trip. The house is neat, clean, very well equipped, and cosy. The wi-fi was very handy for researching day trips, and amusing the teenager. But the back porch just keeps pulling you out to stare at the view: there's always a boat leaving or a ferry returning, or gulls flocking around a fishing boat. There's a nice little town beach just across the grass. Oh, and the weather is perfect here, too. Warm and sunny, but not humid. An excellent vacation destination for anyone who wants a relaxing and independent trip.

Owner's Response: I felt my property would be perfect for vacationers and so did this guest. Being accessible to downtown, the small beach, restaurants, museums, shopping and a great view of the harbor just add to the cozy and clean duplex for all to enjoy.

Our Rockland Vacation

  • 5 of 5
Our family's stay at the cottage was wonderful. It is so comfortable and skillfully decorated, with tremendous attention to detail. Every morning, we woke up to a sparkling view of the harbor and fresh smell of the ocean. Furthermore, Joy and Frank couldn't have been more welcoming. Many thanks for a great vacation.

Owner's Response: It was great reading that our guest really enjoyed their stay at the rental property--inside and outside. If you are looking for a clean and comfortable stay on the mid coast with a wonderful view of the harbor and close to town you can never go wrong staying in the duplex as the guest stated.

A Perfect Place to Vacation In Maine

  • 5 of 5
This is the second year that we have stayed in Rockland, Maine, at Joy and Frank Gifford's attractive and user-friendly rental property, wi-fi included! Their location is perfect; a short (walking) distance from town, restaurants, the beach, but far enough away from hustle and bustle, making it quiet and peaceful. The house is equipped with "everything"! They have left nothing out. We had never stayed in a rental property prior to last year's visit, but after staying here, we will certainly entertain the idea of coming back and checking Home Away for other location.

The duplex is exceptionally clean with updated appliances, plumbing, and is very well maintained. Joy and Frank are wonderful hosts who have missed no opportunity to provide a pleasant "home away from home" feel to their property. They are friendly and helpful regarding activities around the area and knowledgeable about other activities in their State. We visited the Farnsworth Art Museum, the quaint towns of Rockport and Camden in addition to Rockland, spent time at LL Bean's in Freeport, as well as Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park. Mealtime is always exciting as there are great restaurants scattered throughout all the nearby towns. Shopping is a treat, too, at the many cute and unique shops. We visited Owls Head State Park and lighthouse and the Rockland Light on the breakwater; had lobster from Jess's Seafood Market, and generally had a memorable time visiting with many neighbors and, especially, Joy and Frank. The many hiking paths are an additional benefit for those wanting to keep fit, especially after the great food which abounds along the coast, especially seafood!

Photography buffs will especially enjoy the many harbor scenes both from the shore or the many "offshore" opportunities from the many available harbor boat trips. The Vinalhaven ferry sail was especially memorable and a photographer's dream with so many old and new sailboats and motor craft!

Our entire family loved this area, the people, the activities, the food, and generally the Maine shore. We would certainly recommend this duplex to others and will be going back next year with a hope to continue for years to come.

Thank you Frank and Joy for providing a super place to immerse ourselves in your wonderful state.

Owner's Response: What a great review of the Rockland duplex rental. They left nothing out and were totally happy with the property and all it provided (which is just about everything but food) plus the surrounding area and the abundance of things to see and do; however, if you want to relax on the back porch and do nothing that is just as rewarding. We now have an awning on the back deck if you want to let out and don't want the sun to shine on the porch or if there is just a light rain and you want to sit outside.

We were extremely happy that they want to return and look forward to having another repeat guest.

First class home-away-from home!

  • 5 of 5
We visit Rockland a few times a year to spend time with family and this was our first time staying at this property; but now we hope that whenever we visit, this WONDERFUL property will be available!
We’ve stayed at many vacation rentals both in the U.S. and Europe and this is by far one of THE BEST on our list. The pictures (which don’t do the property justice!) and description are accurate; however, they can’t possibly encompass every wonderful detail and amenity about this home.
Frank and Joy thought of everything possible to make you feel not only welcome and comfortable, but like a special friend staying in their home. The duplex is ideally situated on Mid-coast Maine, with wonderful views of Rockland Harbor, and is immaculately clean and maintained. Even during a very cold and snowy January visit (thanks for shoveling, Frank!) this lovely home-away-from-home duplex was everything we hoped for and then some!
We enjoyed cooking dinner in the well-equipped kitchen for our son, daughter-in-law, and 2-1/2 year old grandson, who loved the provided toys, books, and DVDs. Our grandson also spent a different afternoon with us, napping in the toddler bed he proclaimed, “his” the very first time he saw it.
Thanks again, Frank & Joy, we thoroughly enjoyed staying at your wonderful property and look forward to returning later this year!

Owner's Response: What a wonderful review and one of the first times a family has stayed during the winter (our first year of renting in the winter, by the way). We have tried to do our best to make the duplex a home away from home for all who come no matter what time of year. Even though people seem to say we have thought of everything, each year we will add new and better things both inside and outside to make it even better for the next year. We want people to enjoy staying here and want them to return the next time they come to Rockland and the mid-coast area.

Charming, Beautiful Views, Excellent Location

  • 5 of 5
This was our first visit to Maine and we were glad we came. The house is well organized, comfortable and spotlessly clean. It was well beyond what you would expect in any vacation rental. There wasn’t a single scenario that came up where we didn’t have the tool, product, accessory at hand. It’s something I have never really thought about before, but it really makes a difference.

The view from the kitchen and patio is fantastic. You have a great view of the water, and in fact, the picture doesn’t really do it justice.

The location is great too. You can easily walk into downtown, where there are many restaurants, cafes and bars. There are also good grocery stores that are a short drive away.

There is plenty of things to do in Maine and we managed to strike a nice balance between day trip out and about, such as going to Acadia, and trips closer to home like checking out the light houses, museums and boat trips.

We would recommend this to anyone.

Owner's Response: What a great review and how can I add to that but I will try. As stated by the guest, we tried to think of everything when equipping the duplex for each person staying--adults and children as well. Really you only have to bring your personal items and buy food when you rent this property.

Then you can view the ocean from every room but the back porch/deck is wonderful where you have that panoramic view of the harbor. In the late Spring, Summer and Fall relax in the chaise lounge or just sit around the table and have a cook-out and enjoy the view from the back porch. Currently, the duplex is available during the Winter and you can sit at the kitchen bar/counter and view the harbor as well--along with snow I might add.

So if you have a desire to come to Maine, please check this property out. I don't think you will be disappointed -- if anything it is better than the pictures.
