Nantucket is special in itself but to find an area like Madaket that has both ocean and bay/sound and additionally access to numerous ponds all within walking or an easy bike ride from the house, unlikely. Madaket pier/public launch is around the corner from the house giving access to the bay and sound. It is also the meeting point for fishing charters. Those 5am fishing trips mean you get up at 4:45 and walk down the road, very nice! Another convenience, directly across the street is the shuttle service which runs every 1/2hr from 8am-11pm directly to town. The Beach and the restaurant MIllies is a short walk down Madaket rd. A little further of a walk but an easy bike ride is the bay, perfect for small children, sailing, and kayaking. The Madaket beach has lifeguards on duty. There is also a small general store that supplies a little of everything, as well as a to go window from Millies restaurant for easy beach lunches. Madaket also has the crabbing pond as well as a local attraction of the fishing for turtles, all a short bike ride away and a big hit with children.
