Our home is located right on the water in Oak Creek Canyon and is just 4 miles from up town Sedona! The creek is stocked with Rainbow Trout if fishing is your thing....and the deck has a grill and eating area if you want to grill it! Not into cooking, a great deli/store that also serves breakfast is located right across the road. Enjoy long strolls on the forest service road that is right outside your door. Hiking of all levels is abundant in the canyon and swimming/tubing in the creek during warmer months is a wonderful way to spend your day! And, Slide Rock is just a few miles down the road. If shopping, golfing, gambling, dining, four-wheeling or sight-seeing is your thing, you are only minutes away to everything Sedona and Northern Arizona has to offer including the wild animal park, Bearizona and Indian ruins. And, if you've never been or want to go again, we are close enough for a day-trip to the Grand Canyon too!
We, Angelo and Barbara, are partners in life (married 30 years) as well as partners in business. At one time, we owned and operated a Food Service Brokerage business in the Phoenix area. But 'wised up' and moved to beautiful Sedona where we now are licensed realtors with Coldwell Banker First Affiliate.
Barbara Pancrazio purchased this cottage in 2004
Having lived up high on a hill in the canyon many years, we longed to live on the creek. So in 2004, we found what we consider to be the best spot in Arizona and loving it ever since, our Cottage on Oak Creek! Barbara's parents developed and opened Rainbow Trout Farm in the early 1960's which is located just south of the cottage so this is home! Angelo was a 'city boy', originally from Chicago, but now you can't get him out of his jeans and the country lifestyle.
Mother Nature provides many pleasures for us to enjoy year around in Oak Creek Canyon. The snow fall in the winter is just enough to satisfy our need to see it fall and then it melts within a day or so. We must admit, however, that when spring comes, we can hardly wait to have cocktail hour on the back deck overlooking Oak Creek. Wild life is everywhere and we have been privileged to see eagles, blue heron flying overhead, deer on the back road and even a skunk swimming in the creek. And yet, a great deli is just across the street and uptown Sedona is only 4 miles away! What's not to love!
Lovely house with beautiful views of Oak Creek and the canyon - the rear porch is worth staying here alone :) Barbara was very helpful and all her directions and descriptions were spot on. Definitely plan on returning in the future!
A relaxing week at the cottage on Oak Creek! The location is great, just a short drive to uptown Sedona. We spent as much time as possible on the deck overlooking the creek, very enjoyable. Barbara was so easy to work with and a great host. Appreciated the bottle of wine we found upon our arrival. It was so pleasant to have the windows open at night, falling asleep to the sound of the creek. The deli at Indian Gardens Oak Creek Market, which is just across the street, is outstanding! We will stay here again on a return trip. Thank you Barbara for sharing your home with us.
The deck on the house backs to the creek and is a gem. If you like to hear the smooth sounds of a babbling brook this is the property for you. The property is located a short drive from downtown (3-4 miles). The listing description was accurate and the property was well maintained. Owner was very easy to deal with and had very useful information about places to see and eat. The beds were very comfortable which help us in getting a good nice sleep each night. We did not use the kitchen, nevertheless, it was well equipped for all cooking needs. Parking was easy because it is located in the driveway.
When you rent this property you get the entire house to our self. We hope the property will be available for our next trip to Sedona because we would love to stay here again.
It was a magical weekend for my family on our visit to Sedona because of the incredible location of the house, the amenities the house has to offer and the attention to details of the owners.
After walking the amazing hiking trails of Sedona, it was sheer bliss to arrive back at the cottage and sit out on the deck above the creek. The buzz of insects in the trees, the water gurgling past the house and the breeze rustling the leaves made it a peaceful sanctuary.
We cooked all our meals at the house because the kitchen is extremely inviting and well stocked with every kind of cookware. We ate every meal on the deck, to enjoy each part of the day next to the creek.
The owners were so helpful and responsive from the time I made the reservation. Everything was well organized and smooth. Their hospitality shows in many small ways (maps of hiking trails, magazines, etc.) and in larger ways (parking pass to many sites).
I am looking at my calendar to see when I can take my next trip to the Oak Creek Cottage. I want to visit it as often as I can and during different seasons.
We had a very relaxing stay at the cabin. Even though Oak Creek was closed due to high levels of bacteria, we were able to access nearby Munds Creek which is very popular with the neighbors - our kids played, splashed, and swam for hours. And we could still enjoy dinner on the patio overlooking Oak Creek. The walk along the forest road offered some quiet exercise, and lots of blackberry bushes. We even came home with a basket of plums we picked from the tree across the street - all the neighbors we met were very welcoming. The deli across the creek has fantastic sandwiches and pastries, a good selection of wines and beers, and a lush back garden for dining.
We wish we could have stayed longer. The wifi was good, the kitchen as well-stocked, and sound of the creek was wonderful. The only minor downside was that the cabin was a little warm in the evening, but we were there at the height of the summer and even then it cooled down overnight.
While Barbara was very nice and seemed to want to do anything to make our stay as pleasant as it could be, we paid for three nights and headed home after the second night. We have stayed at several places in Oak Creek and this is not worth the price point. It is just not a vacation quality cottage. While it is on the creek, the home was not designed for the lot or as a vacation rental. You can't see the creek from the house, from the yard, from the front patio from the side yard. You have to go through the master bedroom to the back patio to enjoy what is a very nice view. But that is all you can do, there is no access to the creek. You can't get to the creek from the property? No fishing, no dipping your toes into the water, no sitting on the rocks next to the creek.
I feel that I should also warn people that this is not a resort or even cabin level structure. It is a double wide prefab home, the shower is RV sized. And while it is well decorated, it is not well maintained. There is duct tape on many of the light switches and the ceiling fan in the master bedroom does not work. The wood walls let the daytime heat in and there is no a/c or cooling!
On the first night we planned to grill dinner on the back patio until a mouse burst from his home in the grill. Unfortunately this was not our only mouse encounter. I am sure mice are common in the area, but the traps in the kitchen just added to our discomfort.
And finally, I think VRBO should distinguish listings that are actually "vacation rentals" and permanent residences. Barbara and her family live full-time in this home, their stuff was in the closets and their adult son spent an afternoon working on his Harley in the carport. I am very supportive of the new "sharing economy" if it is fully disclosed. And this was not.
There are so many nice places to stay in the area at much better rates. Real businesses like Garlands, Junepine, Butterfly Inn to mention just a few of the places we have stayed at and would recommend.
Again, Barbara was very nice but this is not a vacation cottage. It is her home and unfortunately it is not worth the asking price.
Oak Creek Canyon , where our home is located, is just outside of Sedona which has been named as one of the most beautiful places on Earth! Outdoor activities include Slide Rock which is a natural water rock 'slide' created through eons of years by the running waters of Oak Creek as well as a plethora of hiking trails. Sedona features many restaurants, shopping, outdoor activities and natural red rock scenery. This area is known for the Native American wares available as well as its Fine Arts. A short drive will take you to Jerome, a ghost town and historic copper mining community, that is now a fun-filled sight-seeing destination. So much to do!
