Mike and his mates and his birding trip

Mike the Birder Gloucester
Review Submitted: October 22, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2008
Six of us stayed at Anna and Howard's gite in St Germain les Belles in April 2008. And we had a great time. We could not have been made more welcome by this lively, outgoing couple and the gite was excellently and thoughtfully furnished and we found it very comfortable.

It could not be in a more convenient location, right in the middle of the town square. That is not to say it is noisy, because St Germain is a farly sleepy sort of place. There are local shops and bars nearby, but when you look out of the back garden of the gite you look right out onto open countryside.

The quiet Limousin countryside around is very picturesque, especially around the lakes, but there are pleasant walks direct from the gite anyway.

I'd love to go back and hope to do so soon. I'd have no hesitation in recommending it to all you Brits who want a taste of the real France. You will be made very welcome.

What a fantastic place to stay! We enjoyed a most relaxing stay in this beautiful house, nestled in the heart of the lovely typical Limousin village. Very clean, well maintained and fully equipped, this house has everything you need for the perfect holiday. Set in the heart of the countryside, with lovely local bakery, restaurant and local stores nearby, we would highly recommend this holiday home as an ideal base for walking, cycling and swimming in the local lakes. Looking forward to our next visit!

An excellent gite in a beautiful village

Rob 2 Budleigh Salterton, Devon
Review Submitted: October 9, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We have stayed in this gite on several occasions and we have always enjoyed the experience. The house has been refurbished and modernised to a very high standard and it has a great 'feel' to it.
The bedrooms are quiet and the bathrooms are modern.
Downstairs there is a very large kitchen with an enormous table and if you want to eat in, the cooking facilities are fine. Outside there is a large barbecue. If you would rather not cook - then 'Le petit moulin' or 'Chez Kurko' are two restaurants in the village where you can get a good meal at reasonable prices. There is also a bistro in a nearby village which will deliver a complete meal to the gite.
The lounge is comfortable and there is a satellite television.
The whole area is very beautiful with lots of forests and lakes and it is all very peaceful.
We thoroughly recommend this gite to anyone who is thinking of spending some time in this beautiful area of France.

A great spot!

Clara29 Oxfordshire
Review Submitted: October 5, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Our family enjoyed a fabulous week at Vacances Vert les Belles in June 2009.The Gite has been beautifully restored and provides spacious, clean and flexible accommodation. The open plan kitchen, living room is perfect for family life and the transformation of one of the downstairs rooms into a playroom was a big hit with our two young children! Outside the garden was great for soaking up some rays and a safe place for our kids to explore. The organic vegetables were a lovely addition and the owners were really friendly, welcoming and helpful. St Germaine les Belles is a sleepy little town with a few shops which cater for everyday needs and a great swimming lake and park nearby. We fell in love with the area and really enjoyed visits to Mount Gargan, Lake Vassiviere and Limoges. Highly recommended!

Our Family Holiday in 2009

Jim & Annette Crowborough, East Sussex
Review Submitted: October 5, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
14 members of our family had a really memorable holiday at this superb gîte to celebrate a 50th Wedding Anniversary. It is situated in a lovely village with a bar, 2 bakeries, a general store, post office, cash machine, etc. There was a boules tournament on the village parking area every Tuesday - great fun to watch. However, when in the garden, it feels as if you're in the middle of the countryside - definitely the best of both worlds. There’s lots to see and do in the area - beautiful countryside, villages and towns to explore. Limoges is very interesting with lots of factory outlets where the beautiful porcelaine can be purchased more cheaply than in the shops and stores in town. There are several lakes with beaches and good facilities close by (although our kids preferred the one in St Germain as it had diving boards) and there is a good choice of restaurants to suit all pockets and occasions (we tried as many as we could!).
The gîte was extremely well-equipped, clean and spacious and the welcome from Anna, Howard and the children was genuine and friendly. The supply of fresh vegetables from their own garden ensured healthy eating on the occasions we ate at home.
This is the best accommodation we've had for a family holiday. We will definitely return, and highly recommend it.
