This Shelter Island hideaway feels like a romantic French country house complete with fragrant lavender. It’s a newly renovated barn which has been converted with every luxurious modern convenience for the discerning renter. Think Italian lighting, glorious tile, and wonderful antiques and art. Relax in the sunny private yard by the heated pool. It is the perfect getaway for the summer and is situated in a private community which is a short bike ride or 3-4 minute drive to the Shelter Island Heights town center. It is charming and sophisticated, modern and homey. And best of all, everything has been thought out so you needn't worry about anything but what to eat for dinner.

The new chef’s kitchen featuring top of the line appliances: Lacanche French Range, Sub Zero fridge, Bosch dishwasher and quartz counter tops awaits you and your guests. Natural light floods all the spaces. The master bedroom has a high barnwood ceiling and ensuite bathroom. There is a cozy guest room with a full-size bed, and a queen pull-out sofa in the private den sleeps two more, so the house can easily accommodate six people. An airbed for the open loft workspace on the second floor can be utilized if you want to invite more guests, but once you see this gem, you may not want to share it! And all of this is within walking distance to the private community dock which offers water access for canoes and kayaks on West Neck Harbor. The house has WiFi, two LCD flat panel tvs, Bosch washer and dryer and outdoor KitchenAid Propane BarBQ.

About Julie Pincus

I'm a graphic designer, who loves to renovate homes and bought this lovely old barn to redo as our getaway. Since it took more money than anticipated to renovate we decided that we would rent it out for the high season (summers). This will allow us to be able to continue our transformation of this wonderful summer home.

If you like a quiet, and beautiful place to get away from it all, this is it. We have made the barn a comfortable, luxurious place to hang your hat. It has a chef's kitchen, beautiful pool and secluded setting. Everything has been redone with the best finishes so your stay will be as relaxing as a hotel, but with the privacy you want.

What makes this barn unique

When we saw this 1930s barn, we were won over by its charm. There are lots of Shelter Island ranches redone to the nines. There are many Hamptons wood-clad houses, but this is different. Maybe it's the fact that horses once lived here… I don't know, but with its stone floors and barn wood ceiling it is the perfect place to get away to. I redid it to have a mix of old and new. I'm into modern, but love the wood and stone, so I put in a stainless gas stove for contrast. There are little details throughout and for those who appreciate design, I hope you will like these touches too.

Beautiful home, perfect vacation

My wife and I were lucky enough to find this home and spend our July out there. Could not have been a more perfect stay. Home is meticulously designed and decorated, an open sunny home during the day and a warm retreat at night. The garden and pool is a perfect oasis and a great place to forget about day to day life and relax. Shelter Island itself is serene and has everything you could want from a summer vacation. Beaches and boating and barbecues or a short trip to the hamptons and the ocean. Hoping to make it back again next summer!

Everything we were looking for

We have rented many houses all over the world and this home was our favorite. It is cozy and very open and light, the furnishings are beautiful and the owners have anticipated all needs for linens and cooking. The beautiful pool and garden is a perfect way to start the day before the beach or end it after a day exploring Shelter Island. It also feels very private while still being perfectly convenient to everything. We can't wait to find the next time we can return!

It is a quiet place to relax, explore and enjoy with no traffic and little attitude. There are several wonderful restaurants on the island, cute shops and The Mashomack Wilderness Preserve. Many natural unspoiled beaches await you. It's fun to take the ferry to Greenport to eat or shop. And if you want to go to the Hamptons, take the South Ferry to Sag Harbor for dinner and a movie. If you want a bargain visit the Tanger Outlets in Riverhead. And if culture is your thing go hear a concert at The Perlman Music Summer School near Sunset Beach.

Additional information about rental rates

Notes Please note that we are hoping to get MONTHLY rentals, but as it gets closer to the summer, we will consider two week and one week stays. We DO NOT rent for the weekend ever. ONE WEEK is our minimum. Please Note: weekly rates are not 1/4 of the monthly rate, but somewhat higher as it costs more to facilitate weekly rentals. Please contact owner for a quote.
Please note that 50% deposit required to confirm a reservation- balance is due no later than 30 days before check in date.

Cancellation- If greater than 60 days in advance of check in date refund will be provided less 10%
If less than 60 days - there is no refund unless we are able to rebook by another party for same dates and rates.
