We had a wonderful experience at Acadia Crossroads. The home was wonderfully appointed, cozy, off the beaten path. The listing description was spot on. The home and grounds were immaculate and well maintained. It has excellent proximity to Bar Harbor, the Park Loop road, and the carriage roads - about 5-10 minutes to all of these locations. The owner and property manager provided top notch customer service. We enjoyed walks and runs around Eagle Lake on the carriage road. Restaurants in Bar Harbor were incredible - Dinner at Havana was one of our favorites. Thurston's lobster pound is a not to be missed experience. Don't miss the views from Cadillac Mountain if you visit! Drive the Park Loop road and stop at multiple sites along the way. Definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Mt. Desert Island, Acadia National Park, and Bar Harbor.
A belated review of our excellent week spent at Acadia Crossroads last July. First the name is perfect, you are truly at the crossroads of MDI. You can take a quick walk to the carriage trail or a quick drive to the park or Bar Harbor. We explored all parts of the island, and we always felt like we were centrally located when we returned home. And, home is what the house felt like.
The house was in fantastic condition. It felt new. The kitchen was well-equipped. All furniture and bathrooms were in immaculate condition. The beds were comfortable. The downstairs was a nice space to get out of the main fray upstairs. We had six adults and two tweens, and there was plenty of room for everyone. One of our fondest memories will be buying lobsters essentially right off a boat in Southwest Harbor, cooking them in the lobster pot at the house, and enjoying them on the beautiful back deck. (The one very, very small complaint was there were five serious coffee drinkers in our group, so the one cup Keurig presented a bit of challenge. Trust me, it was easy to work around in the beautiful surroundings.)
As others have mentioned, the information left by the owners was very helpful. And, all the recommendations were spot on. We still talk about our meals at 2 Cats.
This is not enough space to talk about the beauty of Acadia National Park - sunrise on Cadillac Mountain, blueberry crunch at Jordan Pond, hiking the Beehive and the Bubbles, and of course the family bike rides on the carriage trails. When you add in the hospitality of the Bar Harbor residents and businesses, it is a trip I highly recommend.
We overlooked a small bag (containing some important items) as we were leaving and did not realize it until we got to Bangor. The Knowles Company went out of their way to go by the house and secure the bag. It was promptly delivered to us in the next few days. The customer service on the whole transaction was fantastic.
Lastly, if you fly in to Bangor, check out Moe's BBQ before you head out to MDI. It is authentic 'Bama BBQ. We did not know there was one in Maine until we saw it reviewed on TripAdvisor when looking for a place to eat when leaving the airport. It was a little slice of home.
We had a great time at this house. It was far enough away from downtown and the touristy areas to be peaceful and relaxing but close enough to get there and park without any issues. We were close enough to park entrances to get there every day without any trouble. We had a one year old with us and the yard, pond in the back and driveway offered tons of opportunity for exploration. I'll go back with older kids because the space in the back was expansive enough for a pick-up game of kickball or tag. The home was beautiful and offered plenty of space for our group to eat together, share stories in the living room and cook some of our own meals. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would definitely recommend it to others. The owners and managers were extremely responsive to our inquiries and were fantastic to work with. Excellent stay! Cannot wait to get back there!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Acadia Crossroads. Convenient to Acadia Mountain yet secluded and tucked away in the woods. It was wonderful to go back to the vacation home to escape the crowds. My husband likes to cook and he found everything he needed in the kitchen. My sons claimed the basement and loved their private sanctuary. We are a family of 5 and there was more than enough room for us and could have easily fit more. We spent each day exploring the mountain and checked out the nearby towns in the afternoon. Our favorite town was Northeast Harbor. Parking was easy, the stores where fun and we had a great lunch at Colonel's Bakery. Be sure to try their donuts. The best we have ever had! Overall our vacation was wonderful and our stay at Acadia Crossroads made it even more wonderful!
We spent a week here in early October and had a great time. The house is down a nice private driveway and is super-convenient to Acadia. We could get to the carriage roads in less than a mile for a morning run/walk along Eagle Lake before coming back to the house for breakfast and then venturing further into the park for hikes. And it was also a nice easy 5-minute drive into town.
The house itself was really top-notch and CLEAN. It was nicely furnished throughout, and everything seemed new. It was just my wife and I staying there so size-wise, it was kind of overkill for just two people (you could fit a large family or two very easily), but it had a nice comfortable feel and it was a great place to hang out. There was high-speed wifi throughout the house, which was very convenient, especially since cellular service in the area was pretty weak.
The kitchen was well-stocked with (again, very clean) cookware, dishes and nice appliances. We ended up eating breakfast there most mornings and warmed up some restaurant leftovers several times, but there was every pot, pan and utensil you would need to cook full elaborate meals if you wanted.
The owners also did a nice job putting together a welcome binder full of information about the house and various things to do in the area. They also had a great collection of books about the area spread out on a coffee table in the living room. We discovered some great off-the-beaten-path hikes reading through some of the books.
Finally, Sandi at the rental company was very helpful and a pleasure to work with. We booked on very short notice and she worked hard to get everything arranged with time to spare. We also had planned to arrive late on what turned out to be a cold rainy day, so she went out to the house before we got there to turn the outside light on and turn the furnace on for us. Very thoughtful and much appreciated.
I'd stay here again in a minute. Highly recommended.
A lovely home which is ideally located for access to Acadia National Park and the town of Bar Harbor. Because we expected Maine to be cooler, we were surprised that there was no air conditioning, though the evenings were comfortable. Our family would choose this location again in the future.
