Comfortable & Enjoyable Cabin, As Advertised!
My family and I stayed at the cabin for one week over Christmas and had a great time! When we arrived the cabin was clean, well maintained, and was as advertised online. There were additional unexpected amenities too, like a decorated and lit Christmas tree, a poinsettia and candies. There was a large supply of DVDs to watch (movies of all genres), and the wireless Internet was reliable and fast enough for email and web surfing (but generally not fast enough to stream video). Mobile phone service is okay.
The kitchen was large and open, and well appointed to cook for and entertain a large group. There were pots and pans of all sizes, a large roasting pan and serving dishes. There were wine glasses, coffee cups, and drinking glasses of all sizes. For small appliances, there was a hand mixer, a drip coffee maker and toaster. There are two dishwashers, which made clean up quick and easy.
The layout of the cabin is (i) a lower level, with a den, BR with queen bed and BR with king bed that is attached to a bathroom with shower, (ii) an entrance level (from front door) with a master BR with king bed that is attached to a bathroom with a tub and shower, and a second BR with queen bed that is attached to a bathroom with shower, and (iii) an upper level that is open concept with dining area, kitchen with counter seating, a living room with fire place, and a half bath. The outdoor sitting and eating area (screened in) is off the upper level. The outdoor grill is on the deck off the upper level as well. There is a washer/dryer on the entrance level.
The living room (on the upper level) comfortably seats 4 or 5 people on the couches around the fire or to watch a movie. The den (on the lower level) comfortably seats 2 or 3 on the couch and arm chair around the TV. There was a large office desk on the lower level if you need space to work.
There were nice views of the forest and surrounding mountains, especially from the upper level.
I definitely would recommend this property to a family or group of friends looking for a relaxing time in the mountains. Lost River State Park is nearby for hiking and horseback riding. It also is a reasonable drive to do day hikes in Dolly Sods, Seneca Rock or Blackwater Falls. If you're tired of eating-in, there are several nearby restaurants (within 30 minutes drive): Guesthouse at Lost River, the Lost River Grill, the Lost River Brewery (in Wardensville), and O'Neills (in Moorefield).
