Wrap-around covered decks and screened porches let you bring the outside in. A wood-burning fireplace in the great room will make the space cheery even on a rainy day. Cooks will love the gourmet kitchen with all of the amenities. A gas grill wired to the house means you will never run out.
Central heat and air conditioning, laundry facilities, free WiFi.
This house is as good as it looks. Just spent a week there with family ranging from 2.5 - 84 years old and the many porches (screened and unscreened), the large tables (inside and out) and the numerous bathrooms made it easy for all of us to enjoy our time together without bumping into each other constantly.
The house was clean, prepped well and just as described. The owner was warm, helpful, friendly and just plain pleasant throughout the whole process. I changed dates, had multiple contacts and questions, yet she was a delight through it all. She also refunded my security deposit promptly at the end, which I appreciate.
I'd give this more than five stars if I could. If you want family time in the country, look at this spot.
We stayed here with 3 other couples from the DC/MD area for two nights. It was absolutely perfect for a relaxing weekend. The views are indeed beautiful, with the screened in porch our favorite place to gather in the morning and evenings. There's everything you could possibly want in the kitchen (including 2 dishwashers!) and three beautiful, very spacious floors. You can feel very comfortable with 8 people in the house, and it's easy to see how families with children would appreciate the space. Every guest remarked at how comfortable the beds were and how beautiful the inside and surroundings of the cabin were.
Nearby, Big Schloss is a great in and out hike to a craggy and breathtaking overlook, and there's fine dining at the Guest House and good sandwiches at the Lost River Inn. We definitely recommend a stop by the Lost River Trading Post, which is really a carefully curated antique and curious goods store owned by exurbanites from DC.
Lost River's a gem more and more people are going to hear about soon. Get here while it's still the quiet retreat we love--and do yourself a favor by renting this cabin!
We had such a wonderful time at this beautiful cabin near the Lost River. The fireplace and 360 decks are beyond awesome. And beautiful views to boot. The owners were very responsive and helpful in arranging the reservation. Hope to stay here again next year!
This was my first time visiting Lost River and the house contributed to a fantastic trip! The layout was perfect with a top floor great room with wrap around decks and a huge screened porch that had a spectacular mountain view. The lower floors each had two bedrooms which was great for spreading out. The house is well maintained, clean, and tastefully decorated. I had to contact the owner a few times for random questions and she was extremely responsive and attentive to our needs. We chose to cook most meals at the house but there are a number of area restaurants to enjoy. Dinner at the Guesthouse at Lost River was delicious!
All-in-all, I would definitely stay at this house again and recommend it to others.
My family and I (7 adults- 3 couples and one single) recently rented this property for our summer vacation. The owners and property managers are very friendly and accessible. We were able to coordinate all the details of our stay over the internet and email, which was a big plus for me with my crazy hours.
Upon our arrival, we found the house in immaculate condition. The house is spacious, well-appointed, and tastefully decorated. We all had comfortable and clean bedrooms (with clean sheets and towels provided), and the 3.5 bathrooms made getting ready in the mornings much quicker.
It rained two of the three days we were there, but we didn't feel like we missed out on outdoor-time much because we sat outside and enjoyed the panoramic mountain view from the comfort of the screened deck, which included an outdoor dining table and ample and comfortable patio seating.
The house also has a lot of technological amenities. There are two flat-screen TVs, DVD players, surround-sound system, and wi-fi, which allowed us to log into our work computers and also stream movies to watch.
It is relatively close to several attractions- we went to the Luray Caverns (1h), the Lost River State Park (15 min) where we went horseback riding, and Berkeley Springs (1.25 h) to enjoy the mineral springs.
The kitchen is well-stocked with every kind of utensil you might need, a high-end range, and two (yes two!) dishwashers. There are also some condiments and cooking staples provided that are clean, well-organized, and available for use. We had fun preparing our meals every day, because the kitchen and living spaces were open to each other, which kept the group intact even though people were doing different things.
All in all, a terrific setting for our family vacation.
We spent the weekend here and it was exactly what we needed. The air was so clean, climate perfect and the home offered everything we could have asked for. The screened decks kept the bugs at bay while allowing us to enjoy dinner outside. The kids loved playing the yard. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were very dark which allowed us to sleep in later than normal! We left feeling pampered and rested. Loved the area and the fishing nearby. We will definitely be back!
