The apartment is nestled in a redwood grove bordering Codonices Park. It comes with its own parking space. The Greek Theater and Memorial Stadium is a mile and a half down the hill (half hour walk, 7 minute drive). You can amble across the street to the Berkeley Rose Garden in the time it takes to recite a short poem. The area inspired legendary architects like Bernard Maybeck and Julia Morgan and their work graces the landscape. Alfred Peet and Alice Waters launched the culinary renaissance a fifteen minute stroll from your front door. The surrounding park abounds with redwoods, live oaks, dogwood and plum trees. There are basketball and tennis courts, the delightful landmark concrete slide and modern play structures. The famed network of Berkeley walking paths radiates from the area and will delight a dedicated hiker or recreational rambler. It is simply a wonderful location; within easy reach of the finest restaurants, the UC campus and a bustling downtown and yet cushioned in an abundance of nature. It’s a soft landing for a traveler and we will welcome you warmly.
You can enter the place from the street or the parking lot around the back. Behind the front gate is a cozy secluded patio just right to barbecue and entertain your family and friends. You enter through the front door into a sitting room with a fireplace, couch, chairs a small bar and kitchenette. The main bedroom has a five foot closet, a 40” wall mounted TV and a door that opens to a private space under the redwood canopy. Off the hallway there’s a full bathroom and a sitting/bedroom with a pull-out sofa bed and computer station. The laundry room features modern, front loading washer and dryer and a wall of shelving. Extra linens, blankets and towels are provided.
The property and location were wonderful The only downside is an awkward kitchenette (but that was advertised).
Clean, well managed, minimal kitchen, great back deck under the redwoods
Thank you for accommodation our family. We enjoyed staying in Berkeley and the gardens. The property was clean and organized. We had a bottle of wine and sparkling juice in the room awaiting for us upon arrival, unfortunately we don't drink and missed the enjoyment. I had a lot of practice in my driving skills when getting the car in and out of the parking lot because the pathway leading to the parking spot was really narrow with huge trees. I managed without having any scratches on my car. :-) Thanks Randy.
We could not have imagined a more perfect location or a more charming apartment for our stay in Berkeley. The apartment is private, clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The owner could not have been more helpful, actually buying and installing a new dvd player when we had a bit of trouble. Three of us had enough room to have private and together space. Parking was a cinch (reserved space!). The owner made us feel welcome with a treat basket of great tasting goodies and hotel-sized necessities (i.e, shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash, etc.). We loved being near the Rose Garden and among some of the most beautiful gardens in town. The location made for quick treks to all parts of Berkeley and Albany. The best part though is that when we returned from a long day of visiting and sightseeing (and eating), we always felt like we were coming home. That doesn't always happen when you rent someone's place, and it's part of what makes this rental so perfect. You can bet we'll be hoping to stay here again
My family of four stayed here for three nights while visiting family living in Berkeley. The location was fantastic; conveniently located and a gorgeous setting. The accommodations were comfortable and clean, and exactly as pictured in the photos. The apartment IS small, but not cramped. Best of all, the owner, was incredibly helpful and accessible. Due to MY confusion, we were left with nowhere to stay for our last night in Berkeley. The owner scrambled to find us a place to stay for the night, and it had a breathtaking view of the bay. We would definitely recommend renting from this owner.
We came here to visit San Francisco and were delighted to have chosen this rental property in Berkeley. By car we could be at a $12 parking lot near SF's bus and subway routes in half an hour. A BART rapid train can also take you there from a station just over a mile from the apartment, not to mention the third option of a ferry trip. But when you're done with the bustle of SF, you're back in a beautifully calm leafy suburb of the elegant university town of Berkeley. You can walk straight out of the apartment into the enchanting Codonices Park or over the road to the Rose Garden, with its large collection of fragrant and colourful varieties. The luxuriously proportioned University campus and a huge choice of budget and more expensive restaurants and shops is also within the scope of a brisk walk. Further afield, we got onto trails west of the house, while our children did one more day in SF.
The apartment is approached by a few steps up from a shaded off-road parking area or a few steps down from street level. The space is comfortable for two couples or a larger family group. It is well equipped and the owners are extremely welcoming and keen to help in any way they can. It was easy to communicate with them before we arrived. We felt trusted and would trust the owners with our own home if they came to our area.
The kitchen facilities were slightly stretched for 5 of us, but we loved the full sized Weber barbecue on the sheltered sitting area outside the main door. With a few bottles, it was all we needed for delightful drawn-out meals under the sequoias when we wanted to eat in.
We'd check out this place first if we came back to Berkeley or San Francisco.
