Photos and Description of the Taos vacation house rental
1 king bedroom/ queen sleeper sofa/ 2 single beds/ 1.5 bathrooms. Sleeps 6 max.

This luxurious home on 5 acres is located on the rim of the Arroyo Hondo Mesa with breathtaking views of the Rio Grande Gorge, Arroyo Hondo River Valley and the rolling countryside beyond. There is a lush tree filled entry garden and a large covered outdoor room with a fireplace surrounded by upholstered banquettes. In back there is a large hot tub on a covered viewing deck .

The gourmet kitchen features 2 Wolf stoves, stainless steel appliances, a small TV and a breakfast bar. The Great Room includes a round dining table that seats eight, beautiful furnishings and art, high beam ceilings and another fireplace. The cozy study is warmed by a wood burning stove and features a 52' flat screen TV / DVD / CD with a surround sound system. The shelves are loaded with good books and enormous DVD library. The large and comfortable bedroom looks out on Taos Mountain. The house is constructed of high tech rastra block which helps to keep it cool in summer and warm in winter.

We enjoy 3 Ski Mountains including legendary Taos Ski Valley and Enchanted Forest Cross Country area. Rock climbing, fishing and an excellent swimming hole are 1.5 miles from our house on the Rio Grande RIver on a beach where the rafters and kayakers put in for whitewater trips down the Rio Grande. Rafting begins in April. There is a great 26 mile single track mountain bike trail nearby. Also right there are two lovely hot springs right next to the river. Horse back riding, tennis, pool swimming and golf are all available. Incredible hiking everywhere and in mid-August we combine our hiking in local mountains with mushroom hunting! You will find bacci ball, a horseshoe court and foosball on the property.

The house and kitchen are very well equipped with exceptional china, glassware, linens and all conveniences.

There are numerous hiking, walking and mountain biking trails from our house and nearby. Access to the Rio Grande and the Arroyo Hondo Rvers is only 1.5 miles away and a dip in the swimming hole there is the perfect way to cool off on warm afternoons. It is a popular spot for kayaking and tubing. Trout fishing is excellent! For a thrill take a rafting trip down the 17 mile 'Taos Box' in the 800 ft deep Rio Grande Gorge with over 60 rapids including many Class 4 and several Class 5's. Also down at the river there is a well known beginner / intermediate rock climbing area and two major hot springs in which to soak your bones. You can arrange a ballon ride from our front yard out over the rivers and the countryside.

Taos Ski Valley is only 30 minutes away and provides challenging runs with surprisingly small crowds, even on holidays. Take a day to climb 13,161 ft Wheeler Peak (highest in New Mexico) and located next to the ski valley. Dine afterward at The Bavarian Inn. You could swear you were in Switzerland!

Visit colorful art galleries and the Harwood and Millicent Rogers Musuems in Taos. The Taos Pueblo is a living Cultural Heritage Landmark and should not be missed.

The kitchen at the house is perfect for cooking and dining in, but there are MANY great local restaurants nearby as well. We have provided a list of our favorites at the house.

Beautiful Home with Wonderful Antiques

Submitted: October 8, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
Beautiful home with spectacular views. The home is spacious and beautiful with wonderful antiques. The view of the gorge was great and we watched the hot air balloons every morning. I wish that it had another bedroom so that we could bring more guests. We will definately stay here the next time we visit Taos!

S'mores Beside Outdoor Fireplace on Covered Deck

S'mores Beside Outdoor Fireplace on Covered Deck
Submitted: October 8, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
We loved Cabin de lost Rios for its outstanding views and many outdoor spaces! We enjoyed s'mores under the covered patio/fireplace on the one rainy evening and watching the sun rise and set over the mountains from the different viewpoints outside. The house was exceptionally well-equipped and very clean and comfortable. I recomment it highly.

Amazing Views!

Submitted: October 8, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
We stayed at the Cabin de los Rios for 3 nights in August 20012. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the views and the peacefulness of this property. We loved sitting outside on the covered porch and building a fire. We woke up several mornings with hot air balloons going over the house. My kids loved seeing that. The views are indescribable and the air was so fresh. I would recommend this place for small families. The gourmet kitchen was amazing and we cooked all of our meals there. We can't wait to go back.

Paradise in Taos

5 of 5
Submitted: July 13, 2012 Stayed: November 2005
My husband and I have stayed in this amazing house many times over the last 10 years. Obviously we love it, the location, the environment and the many outdoor activities from skiing to mushroom hunting. The house is warm and cozy in the winter, cool in the summer. The views are priceless - spectacular sunsets, snow covered mountain ranges, a ruin on the other side of the gorge and dozens of native birds to watch. The fully equipped, professional kitchen is perfect for preparing delicious meals from the Farmers Market offerings in town.

The house is not close to neighbors, which I like, but close to town where there are good restaurants, grocery stores and shopping. The NY Times is available daily in the Taos Plaza. Fine art galleries and the Harwood Museum offer a diversion from the spellbinding scenery.

We hope to go again this year! What more can I say. V and C Hill
