About Dan or Cindy

Originally from Ohio I moved our family here before the children grew up because it is the opposite of cold and grey.

Dan or Cindy purchased this house in 1996

Why Dan or Cindy chose Big Pine Key

We had wintered in the area for 2 years and picked this location because of good neighbors, easy water access and a quiet street that was still near enough to US1 to have easy access to necessities.

What makes this house unique

The view.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our group had a very enjoyable stay at Casa Domingi. The weather was cooperative as we were able to fish every day and did not have any rain. The property worked out fine for us. The location is excellent for fishing the bridge area. We docked three boats and rafted two together which worked okay. The big inflated buoy’s worked great to keep the boats off the sea wall. We moved the table from the west patio into the living room for dining. We had plenty of room for parking our vehicles and boat trailers. The place is very quiet and somewhat isolated which we liked. We ended up with seven people as one individual had an accident the week before the trip and had to cancel. I slept one night on the couch and the rest of the week on the seaside patio on an air mattress and cot. The breeze was very nice and kept the mosquitoes away. Our group was definitely liked the properties and will consider it next year. I liked your house manual as it is very complete and well done. We did not eat any meals out and cooked all our meals in house.

A couple of improvements we would suggest are a fish cleaning station and rod racks for stowing the fishing rods would be nice. I did see a scorpion in the lower lever as it scooted under the chair. The seawall could use a few more cleats and bumpers to more conveniently dock three boats directly on the sea wall.

Excellent stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the beautiful Casa Domingi a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We've been going to the Keys for lobster season for years so we've stayed in many different places, but this one was one of the best. The owners go to great lengths to make you feel at home. They left a binder full of great info about things to see & do, as well as how to operate electronics in the house. The fresh fruit in the fridge was awesome after a long, sweltering car ride. I could go on & on about all of the great things, but I'll hit the high points for the sake of time. There was an abundance of white, soft, fluffy towels. This may seems like a little thing, but I can assure you that towels run short when 8 people shower every night & scratchy towels are horrible on sunburned skin. Who wants to spend their vacation doing laundry? The individual air conditioners in the bedrooms were awesome!!! The kids loved the good wifi. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, but the can opener was hard to operate so we made a donation to the cutlery drawer lol! Loved the large, high end fridge/freezer. Of course the balcony area right off of the two bigger bedrooms was a favorite of all that stayed. The owners were staying less than 15 minutes so they provided their cell phone in case we had any trouble at all...which we didn't. The only negatives are things that the owners can not help but definitely warned us about. The noseeums were horrible & laughed at our bug sprays. Also, the water is very shallow in front of the sea wall. We did scratch the bottom of our new boat on the rocks a few times. Although it's only 22 feet, it is very heavy & we had a hard time going out & coming in even at an angle (we were very envious of the dock at the adjoining property). Once you get past the rocks, you are just a quick ride to the open water. Lastly, I got my deposit back in less than 2 weeks. I have had problems with 2 other properties in the past, as those owners obviously don't put it in trust as these owners do. That was a pleasant surprise, as I was expecting 4-6 weeks before seeing a check in the mailbox. Again, as an avid traveler to the Keys for lobstering, I put Casa Domingi at the top of the list of properties we have stayed at. Will definitely rent from these owners in the future!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your sincere comments. We do work at having things just the way we'd like them when we are out on safari. (Thanks for the can opener!) As a result of our cute little key deer, while the building of a separate dock is in the works, this could literally take 10 years to accomplish as any building on this island just takes years for the countless approvals and permits. The good side of this is that Big Pine Key will always be a green island, we take the good with the bad here. Bugs at dawn and dusk are best avoided as we can't use the same chemistry as folks on the mainland due to our sensitive environment. With lobsters literally just out the back door living in that great open water view, it's a hard place to beat. Thanks again and have a great summer.

Great Place

A great location, minutes from a Win Dixie , minutes from many restaurants, bulk ice, but secluded at the same time. Many great snorkel charters and Kayak tours within a few minutes. Saw Goliath Grouper, Sharks, Rays, Snapper, Tarpon. Key Deer everwhere, even in the yard. Easy drive to Key West for a day trip, easy drive to Marathon for other activities. House had everything needed, we felt like we were in fact living there. Sunrise view unbeatable. Very comfortable and happy with the stay. Thanks.....

Owner's Response: Thanks much folks! If you are like us and you like critters, then this is the piece of paradise where you want to be. So many interesting living things that you just can't see on the mainland, some of which you can't find anywhere else in the world. With Looe Key, America's largest living coral reef, just a short boat ride out the back door, the sights you can see are almost beyond the imagination. Great for kids and adults both, the sights, the colors and the life are top shelf and abundant here in the Florida Keys. Or just sit here under a palm tree and enjoy the view. We thank you for spending your hard earned money with us, look forward to seeing you all again and hope you have a great year!

great time!

The house was perfect, Key deer in the yard.. Beautiful view onto the water. We loved everything except the boat access. It was a little too shallow and hard to get in and out of depending on the tide. Once out into the water it was fine.

I think anyone would enjoy this location. The house had everything we needed and Dan was very helpful with any questions. Do stay here. The price is right and the location excellent.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the honest review folks and the referral, we do appreciate it! We work hard at keeping the place clean, well maintained, and stocked with plentiful, fresh linens and kitchen appliances. We make it easy for you to figure out the rest of a great time. The open water frontage and view from Casa Domingi is a treat. A location that is near to it all yet just off the beaten path, a hidden gem. Waking up to some of the best sunrises you'll ever see from your private verandah just off the bedroom. A walk through the house past the coffee pot reveals an elevated view of key deer in the large yard on the other side of the hut. While there is plenty of water to float a boat at the seawall ( I kept a 26' walkaround with a full tower and twin engines there for 10 years and put 400 hours a year on her) about fifty feet of the boating ingress area just off the property is soft bottom and tide dependent requiring the use of a tide chart, slow speeds and tilted motors. Good stuff and a fair price, thanks much folks for making Casa Domingi your destination in paradise.

Even Better than the Photos!

What a great place to stay for a Florida Keys vacation! The important basics were great - the house and bathrooms were clean, the beds and linens comfortable and the kitchen well enough appointed to cook in without difficulty. There are so many fun things to do in the area (fish, snorkel, kayak, bike and beach) and we loved being on this relatively quiet key, with the option of a short drive to day trip to Key West. Plenty of places to eat, etc., but really nothing can beat the view from the beautiful porch. Didn't really want to go anywhere else! Thanks Dan and Cindy for the welcoming fruit and for a really nice vacation!

Owner's Response: Hey guys, thanks for your honest review. It does our hearts good to hear that folks such as yourselves can get some of the enjoyment we've had for years here at Casa Domingi. I've lived in and traveled through the keys now for over 20 years and I still haven't found anyplace with a better view. It is quite simply a breathtaking million dollar view. It would make a great 1000 piece puzzle! Sitting on that elevated private veranda just off the bedrooms or down on the clean landscaped concrete patio at water's edge you'll witness moon and sunrises that will leave you speechless and set you up for a great day in paradise with a grin from ear to ear. As the afternoon wiles away, the serenity will take you to a little "Spanish Pause" in preparation for the evening's festivities. We clean that house like it was ours, oh that's right... it is. I like a clean hut and I'm glad it met with your approval, thanks for the compliment! In closing, thank you for spending your time and your hard earned money with us, we do appreciate it and look forward to your return. Have a great year!

Great rental for vacation or even a wedding!

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I rented this property as a venue for our wedding! The house/patio served as a beautiful space for the event. Before our arrival the house and landscaping were freshened up and everything was clean and ready to go! The ocean side balcony was great for morning coffee and sunrises over the water, while the front balcony hosted happy hour and sunsets. We were visited by numerous Key Deer in the front as well! The patio/deck was a great space for entertaining and fit our smaller wedding perfectly. Everyone commented on how beautiful and perfect a setting it was. Amenities, linens, and comforts inside were ample, though a few more hand towel/face cloths could be offered. Guests tended to go through those quickly. Dan was spot on as an owner and host, making sure everything was ready to go for us. He was a pleasure to deal with and we would recommend this property to anyone. Dan opened his home for the first time to a wedding and we greatly thank him for his trust. The house and Big Pine Key are very convenient as there is a Winn Dixie, and restaurants (Springers, No Name Pub) very close by. We also visited Bahia Honda Park for a beach day which is just a short drive...where did our week go?! It was great, thank you so much Dan!

Owner's Response: Thanks much guys for your honest review. It was a pleasure hosting your special day for you and your friends. Casa Domingi Is a the place for small private family or corporate events. Peaceful and serene with a view of the open water that just can't be beat. Plenty of parking, a large open and well equipped kitchen and a huge, clean and open palm tree lined patio taking your right to the water's edge with additional fantastic overhead vernada views. Breathtaking without the first person, but add a bride and groom... or maybe just you, and it's off the scale. We've doubled the hand/wash cloths, thanks for the heads up. We wish you both a long and happy life and thank you greatly for starting it right here in paradise. Casa Domingi is the perfect place to make a life memory.

Perfect Place in Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

After spending our last three Christmas vacations touring the parks in Orlando with our two sons, now ages 8 and 12, we decided on the Keys and Casa Domingi this year. Everything was as pictured and depicted in the ad. The house was clean and well kept and the views from the bedrooms were spectacular.

Big Pine Key proved the be the perfect location for us as this was our first visit to the Keys. Its' close proximity to Marathon (maybe 15 minutes) allowed us to enjoy all it has to offer. We ate at the Sunset grill on two occasions, enjoying live music and views of the seven mile bridge and the sunset on the beautiful aqua water from the deck. We also chartered a boat from Marathon one evening for a sunset cruise.

We took a day trip (30 minute drive) to Key West. The drive itself was worth it as many bridges offered more amazing views of the water and the numerous smaller keys on the way down. While there, we enjoyed the many sights, climbed the 88 stairs to the top of the Key West Lighthouse for the view, and ate Cuban sandwiches at a roadside cafe. Of course, we had our picture taken at the southernmost marker.

Big Pine Key was more like the island living I expected from the Keys. It was laid back, but offered some good restaurants and even a Winn-Dixie right around the corner from Casa Doming. Our younger son who plays travel soccer enjoyed the nice facilities at the park within a mile of the house.

We took our two dogs with us and the large secluded yard made it easy for us to let them out. The tucked away location of Casa Domingi also made for nice walks in the neighborhood.

Casa Domingi had everything we needed and more. A large selection of movies and board games kept the kids (and us) busy when we were hanging around the house and Dan's information book told us about everything we needed to know.

We had a wonderful vacation in Big Pine Key and made memories that will last a lifetime. Overall, Casa Doming was excellent and we would recommend it to anyone wanting the perfect place in paradise.
